Could Dino leave for Baylor?

Last year? Probably.

This year? Good luck selling that to the Baylor boosters.

Why would they want to buyout a coach that has had a losing record in three out of four years?

Now in the off chance Baylor wants Kirk Martin I’ll drive him to the airport myself.

I've wondered how those places could actually exist in Texas and who would go there. Similar to who goes to Buffalo Wild Wings when in Buffalo.
The Friday's in Midtown seem to do really well with tourists too. There's no accounting for taste. I guess people want what they know over much better options.

Oh, and to the OP of the thread- cool story.

Folks do realize that Rhule was getting paid $6m/year and they will be getting a big buyout from him too. They are going SHOPPING not settling.

I don’t think it would be a hard sell at all - considering many of them prob already know and like him

Marrone was .500 and got an NFL job.

lots of people think with the best version of Syracuse from the 80s and 90s instead of how we are actually perceived. Knocking of Clemson and a ten win season here is enough to be thought well of

the hardest part would prob be his connection to the Briles era

According to my sources Babers is 100 percent leaving

to go to Pizza Hut lunch buffet with Nick Monroe.

That sounds better than Texas Roadhouse or Buffalo Wild Wings.

Baylor is not a great job.
Briles was the first coach to win there in a while and he was able to use his connections to TX HS schools in the state to slowly build them up.
Rhule took over a massive cleanup act and went thru 2 bad years before bringing them back.

They are just lucky the state has an insane amount of HS football to bring in talent each year.
Texas, Texas A&M run the state. LSU comes in Houston easily and gets talent. All of the Big XII recruits TX well and SEC teams.

There is just an insane amount of talent. Baylor isn't going to get an elite coach for long just like us.

Not sure I agree, the amount of money they have changes things. They are strongly positioned at the top of the 2nd tier. Below UT and A&M but ahead of TCU and Houston. Being able to pay a coach $6m/year and having that stadium will keep them competitive.

I live like 90 mins away and haven't visited yet. Still if I had to pick I'd probably pick living there over CNY :)
Living in an area is a tad different from going to play D1 sports in an area.

Syracuse is 100 times better than Waco. No one in there right mind goes to Waco on purpose.

Marrone got an offer after his best year here. You need to strike when the iron is hot, not after 5-7. How many coaches get hired after 5-7?

The other reason last year made more sense is that after the 2018 season Dino had his deal restructured to include a much bigger buyout. That combined with the poor season = hard sell with boosters.

Can we stop freaking out when a job opening comes up for football? Sheesh I mean Syracuse I believe very strongly if we build on our facilities will eventually be a top destination for football. It is my hope that this happens.

First off, Babers was an asst. for 3 yrs at Baylor during their first round of being very good and putting Baylor on the map. Secondly, Rhule had absolutely ZERO ties to Texas or Baylor, so anyone who claims that they will only hire a Texas guy with connections are just wrong. Thirdly, Babers was one of the hottest coaches last year, you don’t just go down the pipeline because of one year. Fourth, Syracuse is one of the hardest P5 schools to have success at. Anyone who knows a damn about football, knows this. Last, cbssports and other outlets have zero actual clue on who Baylor is going after.

This wasn’t some haphazard thread about Babers leaving for some crap job that he has no connection to. He clearly has a connection, now how big of one? Who knows. But like i said, if they came calling, he’d leave in a heartbeat.

Waco has way better weather. A nice newer stadium. Nicer facilities and locker rooms. Dino could have him a big ranch out in Texas. Get his house flipped by Chip Gaines and his wife. Never have to worry about all that snow again.
Plus his recruits would be way better.
