Looking at the map...they absolutely need to build an interchange off I-81 at Mudmill Rd and/or somewhere about a mile north of the Cicero Interchange.

Expect Mud Mill and Caughdenoy Roads to become major players for future development of commercial, retail, and residential neighborhoods.

Easy access to 81 and 31, lots of available land, water nearby.

I lived up there for ten years. Yeah, it snows. But I never, ever could NOT get where I needed to be. Ever. And the towns and state care of the snow removal of public streets and parking lots. It is a side gig for private areas. The skill set is still in place for R and D and manufacturing up there. Between the SUNYs, Syracuse, Cornell, Albany, Rochester, Buffalo and the Troy area and add to that IBM, LM, the UAV Corridor and AFRL…there is certainly enough talent to draw people back to an area they never wanted to leave in the first place.

Oswego State started a computer science and electrical engineering program about a decade ago encouraged by Novelis (formerly Alcan) in Oswego that was making huge expansion plans and needed engineers. The state, the college etc all cooperated in getting an accredited electrical and computer engineering program.

The new Micron site along with Lockheed Martin, Novelis etc have Engineering programs at SU, Cornell, Oswego State, Clarkson College, RIT, U of Rochester etc to supply their large Engineering needs for present and future technology opportunities. These universities are all within about a 2 hour distance. I was told that this gives the central NY area a huge advantage in becoming a national tech center.

Oswego County which is only a few minutes from the Micron site will also reap big benefits. Rome, NY also has had a boon in technology jobs, many government related. Add JMA and drone technology already here, the future sure looks much brighter.

Another thing that doesn’t get talked about as much as what it means when thousands of new people move in is the amount of businesses devoted to them that also open up as a response to them which leads to even more growth and then from 9000 jobs at micron you have dozens of small businesses growing and hiring local people and adding even more tax base to the area

Does this encourage Lockheed to continue to focus on their Syracuse campus and commit greater investment here?

With Micron coming in, Utica-Rome will benefit in the fact that Wolfspeed will have to improve their wages. While they pay well for the area, they are low wages comparative to the industry. Moving or commuting an hour away won't be difficult for those currently employed there, if Micron is going to pay more.

Can the powers that be land another whale for the south side of Syracuse, or something just east in Madison county?

Will SU invest greater in an engineering and computer science program / school?
