Think of it in a couple ways - Turning Stoners need a place for the family to go if they are vacationing up here from somewhere else. An aquarium and a zoo 45 minutes away is good.

And this is a checklist item to draw spouses and families of people looking to work at Micron.

I’m all for the aquarium and hope it succeeds. Just saying I’ve been to a few and they all seem to blend together. Niagara for instance I wasn’t blown away by and at those price points I wouldn’t go back. They’re talking $18-20 admission which is a bit high for this market, and we don’t have Niagara Falls to guarantee tourism traffic.

Then there’s the duration of the visit. With the zoo and its walking trails a family could spend an afternoon. Most aquariums I’ve been to you can walk through in 30 minutes. Families will care about the bang for the buck.

I used to bounce at the Armory Suds. Owner was weird for sure. I live in Bville now and have never in my life seen a patron in that restaurant. Really a damn shame cause that river location across from San Miguel is MONEY.

I had my fake ID taken away back in '93 trying to get Syracuse Suds. Six months before my 21st B'Day. Had that ID for 4 years. Was very upset.

Good news. Bouncer was dating girl from my HS. She called me next day and got my ID back!!!!!

It all depends. The aquarium in Key West is great. It's semi-outdoor with holding pools of ocean water, and they have tanks inside for all kinds of coral, sea horses, crabs, rays, etc. The one in the Bahamas where you walk through it, also very cool. Coney Island is also mostly outdoor and is a nice walk on a summer day, just like the zoo.

College kids studying oceanography could work or study there.

There are so many lakes in this part of the country. As the climate dries up other parts of the country, this could be more appealing than you realize.

When you're trying to recruit doctors, engineers and other professionals to this area, they look at quality of life. People who looked at moving to Micron in freaking Idaho probably looked at affordable housing, small town life, hunting, fishing and skiing as family activities, quality of life stuff.

Micron in Syracuse offers lots of parks, golf, the 1,000 Islands, Adirondacks Park, FInger Lakes Wine country, lots of good universities, decent art scene. A zoo and an aquarium help make Syracuse look more intellectually stimulating for families.

Having zoos and aquariums nearby is phenomenal when you have little kids.

Down my way in CT I have a zoo 10 minutes away in one direction and an aquarium 15 minutes away in the other direction. For years I had a family membership for both. They were fantastic places to go spend a couple hours on a weekend day with the kiddos. And they're always bringing in new exhibits on a rotating basis. So there's always something to see.

I wish there was an aquarium when my out of state grandchildren would visit. Repeat visits to the Zoo, Green Lakes, Beaver Lake Nature Center, Onondaga Lake Pkwy etc gets old as the kids age and are a hard sell in the cold winter months. There needs to be more year round draws for visitors and with the colleges, sports events, concerts etc. I would imagine that the area’s economy would love if people had more reasons to stay for longer visits.

Supposedly adding 2 soccer fields and more baseball/softball at Hopkins with LED lighting along with additional fields at Carrier. Some of that may get done this year.

Has Carrier been cleared for repurposing? I thought there were environmental issues there. Maybe they are just using the separate athletic fields that Carrier owned but not plant sites?

Anyone have any updates on the Inner Harbor Aquarium? I may be in the minority, but I've always wanted an aquarium in Syracuse. Pretty stoked about it.

I believe construction is well underway on this one, although I could be wrong. The additional funding will be helpful.

It’s the area where the old company recreation center was. Land already turned over to Dewitt and developed several years ago This project is an expansion of what‘s already there.
