Development in and Around Syracuse Discussion

So, I got to Crooked Cattle this afternoon.

I asked about the Clark's Ale House sandwich. He called it a tribute. I liked that. Turns out he knew my cousin, and we had a nice chat. PBRs in a can.
A delicious potato salad with bacon and scallions, and the sandwich, my oh my! It was really good!

I had originally planned to get a sammy here, and then go to the Tap House on Walton (former Blue Tusk), where they have a "French Onion Beef Sandwich" or maybe a French Onion Burger, I'm not certain.

But this was so good I just couldn't stop, and then a monsoon came, so that will have to wait for next time. It was a scouting mission, anyway. [That makes it a business write off, right?]

How did the Blue tusk ever close down? Every time I went to a game and swung in that place was packed!
Met Dave Mirra and his photographer/friend there before a game one year. Story for another time.
RIP

I think the building was sold and the new landlord jacked up the rent and drove them out. It then sat vacant for 2or 3 years

Yeah, greedy/inept landlord. Been a few instances of that downtown. The fact that the prime location of Syracuse Suds Factory has sat empty for years is downright criminal. Could be home to a great sports bar/brewpub.

That's what happened to Empire Brewing, too. Their rent tripled, and their lawyer let them sign it, while they were trying to develop that 2nd location out in Fabius. Got spread too thin, and the Walton St lease killed their business.

They have a Suds in B’ville. We are pretty sure it is a money laundering operation as no one is ever there. It’s been open for years.

I loved Empire, but Dave Katleski had a lot of problems and was not a great businessman.

jacking rent prices seems to be what takes down so many places. Then those place sit empty for years. How is that a good business model?

It's not. Mostly I blame brokers. They are the ones trying to pump up prices. They convince landlords they can get someone to pay the rent. But economics is economics.

I've never understood why there's never anyone there. Location is mint being right there on the river

I think everyone in Baldwinsville thinks that.

The other Clark's Ale House Roast Beef Sandwich imitator / tribute sandwich contender - The French Onion Sammy at the Tap House on Walton St. (former Blue Tusk). This looks amazing, too.

I am skeptical, if only because everything I've had at the Taphouse is dreadful. And I'm not the pickiest patron.

They are really good at having fruit flies and low morale among the staff. Beyond that, very skeptical.

Maybe I dodged a bullet with the monsoon.

Big news on Harrison Street. An old office building just got funding to be converted into apartments. This is across the street from the new Tech Garden, renamed Inspyre Innovation Hub.

This is another key building in Downtown's redevelopment at the south end of the neighborhood. This building on Harrison, the Chimes Building redevelopment by the Allyn Family at the corner of South Ave and Salina St., Symphony Place apartments right across from the Salt City Market and the Hotel Syracuse - this is going to be a nice neighborhood in 2-3 years, if things go well.

And then just down the block, you have the new STEM magnet high school (former Central Tech), JMA Wireless, and then the old Sears Building is going to be a new workforce development hub.

Went there randomly a few weeks ago after dinner for a drink. We were the only ones in there which was ….awkward. Also the fruit flies wow.

There’s no parking nearby and the food is not great.

r/Syracuse - RIP Mike Yorton, owner of Blue Tusk. Passed away over the weekend.

I think Mike has put a curse on the place because of the way he was forced out. He was every bit as happy go lucky as he appears here. My he rest in peace!

I believe construction is well underway on this one, although I could be wrong. The additional funding will be helpful.

I used to bounce at the Armory Suds. Owner was weird for sure. I live in Bville now and have never in my life seen a patron in that restaurant. Really a damn shame cause that river location across from San Miguel is MONEY.
