Isn't there still space in the old Kennedy Square plot?

After they remove all the junk cars and dig up all the bodies.

I don't think space is the issue. If these developers are converting hotels into student housing, that tells me there isn't enough money in the hotel business, so building some big fancy new hotel from ground up probably isn't realistic.

Also, the old Kennedy Square land is owned by SUNY Upstate after sitting dormant in the hands of COR for a decade (a debacle, just like what's going on over at the Inner Harbor - at least they built one building there).

There's going to be a lot more of this. Kids don't want to go $100K in debt to get a no-name college degree and not be able to get a job afterwards. Kids are getting smarter. I could see 25% or more of small colleges closing in the next 10 years. It would literally be a smarter move for them to use that money to buy a house in their 20s (while they're single) and get a job in the trades, where eventually you can be your own boss and own your own business.
100%.

This is a strange narrative that's gotten traction - the loss of hotel rooms will cause a loss of an NCAA.

No, how about this: Syracuse University's unwillingness to bid to host NCAAs will prevent Syracuse from hosting NCAAs. They haven't bid in years and to the best of my knowledge aren't planning to do so in the near term.

For some reason, I attributed SU not bidding to all of the construction happening at the Dome. I assumed once the major things were done, they'd hop back into bidding. That being said, they control one of those two major hotels and decided to do away with it - fully knowing the impact that would have on something like hosting the NCAA tournament - so maybe they are officially out of that game.

Maybe they don't bid because...

they already know it will be rejected due to lack of hotel rooms.

That's why I stopped calling Jennifer Aniston.

Didn't the people that run the regional market just ask the state for money to upgrade facilities not long ago?

Director paid his dad $200K over 3 years for occasional snow plowing, with no contract or job description.

When did literally EVERYONE get so damn corrupt?

I doubt that contract would be worth $200k even if it were double the length. Wild.

Sal's Seafood in N. Syr is closing, that building, the consignment shop and the current location of Carnegie's Cafe have all been sold to Delta Sonic. I didn't go to Sal's or the consignment shop but Carnegie's opened the bar a few months ago after the Bowling Green closed and renamed the bar the Green Sanctuary. Another local closing, 4 in the past year - Clam Bar, Full Boar, Bowling Green, Green Sanctuary

What a shame. I can only imagine when Delta expands that Route 11 in that area will be a disaster, more so than it already is. Fortunately Carvel owns their building so that will be staying, at least for now.

A Syracuse-area fish fry restaurant is closing after nearly 70 years

"North Syracuse, NY — A longtime takeout restaurant that specializes in fried fish is closing after nearly 70 years of operation.

Sal’s Seafoods, which opened on Route 11 (3730 Brewerton Road) in North Syracuse in 1957, announced on social media its last day of business will be June 28."

True. We had very little snow to even plow. My plow guy comes if there is 3 inches + of snow - plowed 4 times this past season. It usually was melting shortly after it fell too. The year before we paid for 6 times. Paid him a bonus to just keep him for next year. This past season we had 47 inches of snow all 2023-2024 season. Our average snowfall for the past 18 seasons has fallen from well over 100 inches to 83 inches. The past 5 seasons, we’ve averaged just 66.7 inches.

I think the guy I hired came maybe 6 times this year, about the same as last year. Not a bad gig for these guys the past few years for sure.

Yes if they are paid for the season vs per plow. I paid per plow.

My dad gets paid per time by about 95% of his clients, so these past couple years have not been great for him.

Is it bad that at this point, the only reason I open these articles is to see what they are tearing down now?

Only SIX parking spaces for a building with 47 apartments ???
I hope they make them redo it, just for that reason alone.
