When Global Foundries submitted build plans to the Town of Malta for the Chip Fab plants just south of Saratoga Springs, it took a few years before all drafts were approved by the Town of Malta Zoning Board... big industrial construction takes time to get approved.

When Global Foundries submitted build plans to the Town of Malta for the Chip Fab plants just south of Saratoga Springs, it took a few years before all drafts were approved by the Town of Malta Zoning Board... big industrial construction takes time to get approved.

The County Exec says construction is starting this fall in the same article. Exactly what contractors have been preparing for.

It seems to me that this project is the most important economic development in CNY in my lifetime - nearly 70 years.

That anyone would take any action to derail it or delay it is unfathomable.

Yeah this is going to start this fall one way or another. Way too much invested at this point for a bunch of NIMBYs to stop it.

I live in the area. I attend the meetings. Its a bunch of lefties. But also the only true concern of most citizens in the area is the traffic. (second to only the eminent domain effected people from 2022)

Traffic will increase ...that's inevitable. However, with proper planning, it can be fine. The Global Foundries plan in Malta significantly changed the landscape which is now totally unrecognizable from what it was 15 years ago. There has been a ton of development which included a lot of roundabouts and a bypass route to/from route 87. All in all, it works well. I am sure there are some who hate the development and long for the good 'ol days but if you want jobs, you have to accept this kind of change. I think there is a bit of selfishness is those who object and don't value the jobs and economic impact.

Syracuse's traffic is notoriously horrible. There are times when, due to construction, people's commute time has increased from 14 minutes to an intolerable 17 minutes.

The people in the neighborhood I have seen are against any development, the additional traffic and disruption with all the construction to their lives. I attended meetings and the people who attend these meetings are mainly people who are against whatever is being proposed, not the people for it anyways.

The people there want to live in the country. Nothing wrong with that, but that area was always exurban and the possible development there has been discussed for 25 years. They should have been prepared. It's not much different than the people fighting the I-81 changes which a former Syracuse police chief leading that charge.

I am not up to speed on what road improvements they plan to make for the Micron facility but as long as they are proactive about the roads and not wait until 5-10 years after the facility opens. I live about 50 miles north of downtown Atlanta (I really miss Syracuse's traffic compared to here). Here, developers are buying up all of the farmland and building giant subdivisions because so many people are moving here. Problem is, the road improvements (widening, etc..) are way behind creating a traffic nightmare. But, I put up with it because this is where the jobs are. The trade-off you have to make. When I am a retired curmudgeon (getting closer), then I will whine & complain about development .

I’m very close to retired crumeddgon and love complaining about most recent Syracuse traffic. There are no secret short cuts to get north of city at this point. It’s wild. I know it’s silly compared to what some of you deal with but traffic delays are a very foreign concept to us here.

I'm pretty sure Micron has already put down on paper to the state DOT what they want as far as highway improvements etc.

complaining about change and new development / impact on property values / traffic usually is a bi-partisan complaint fest! then when things arent that bad, they forget they complained.

i see it all the time with the slightest developments near me -- you'd think they were building maximum security prisons.

What’s ironic is that property values have escalated and may very well continue with Micron being built.
