Idk. Never been to the larger one. Just don’t see the appeal.is it any different than the one in Toronto?

Syracuse is bigger than the Toronto one thoughIdk. Never been to the larger one. Just don’t see the appeal.
I had heard recently that a number of data center proposals for the region had been denied due to concerns about significant energy consumption without much payback (e.g. job creation). Surprised to see this one seems to have support from the county…It's just crazy...our grids are already strained, rates are expensive...and we're just letting all these data centers get built for AI over ordinary people.
This needs to get shot down. No benefit and power bills go sky high and they are already high enough.I had heard recently that a number of data center proposals for the region had been denied due to concerns about significant energy consumption without much payback (e.g. job creation). Wind and solar are working great for the rest of the world, always great getting left behind.Don’t worry, wind and solar energy right!? (Eye roll) lol

i was the beneficiary of an amazing ride over a 7 month period it starting going up almost immediately and never really stopped, unfortunately i sold about a month too early and im sick over it every day."Mehrotra said that Micron is spending $200 billion to build more production capacity in the U.S., including two fabrication plants, or fabs, in Idaho and a 600,000-foot facility in Clay, New York, where the company broke ground on Friday. Mehrotra said it will take a few years to build out the facilities, including clean rooms and production equipment."
BTW, Micron's stock price is up about a qazillion dollars lately.
I’m still holding that mofo, bought it back in April. Just keeps going upi was the beneficiary of an amazing ride over a 7 month period it starting going up almost immediately and never really stopped, unfortunately i sold about a month too early and im sick over it every day.

AI is overrated and ed.. it is going to be another 2001 bustI purchased the day they announced. My back is bruised from patting myself
I convinced my son to get in fairly early too.
I wasn't smart, just realized it was oversold in '22 and wanted to support a company investing in Syracuse. The AI thing was never in my calculus.
Local stocks I've owned in the past or currently include: Micron, Corning, Carrier, Anaren (cash buyout to TTM), Inficon, Amphenol, and Lockheed Martin. I fortunately made money on every one.
I forgot...I did own Xerox too, pretty sure I sold at a small loss.

I think it’s going to be very industry dependent how AI shakes out. Companies like Microsoft are seeing that the average user doesn’t care to learn how to create prompts to get the most out of AI.AI is overrated and ed.. it is going to be another 2001 bust
We want to use AI but must create each database (we cannot share with anyone). Then the issues are: How was the data loaded? Was the data loaded correctly? Are we using the latest data? and many more. The results when it works right are beneficial, but most of the results are what we already knew/suspected.we have had tons of issues with AI so far. the bosses said hey we need 25% less people now so they got rid of the higher end costs. Only to realize the people with actual skills are the only ones who knew how to ask the right questions and read the results.
I’ve used google AI that comes up and have found errors in their results. I’ve googled twice, three times and on occasions have gotten differing answers to identical questions. Scary that we’ll be relying on data that can be absolutely wrong. Garbage data in, garbage data out.We want to use AI but must create each database (we cannot share with anyone). We may need a few techno whiz kids for the front end, but the back end personnel are not able to be replaced anytime soon. Even on the administrative side.
I work in the legal field. The open sources literally make up "cases" and cite the made up cases (which explains why we must create our own databases). The problem with open sources is you can write fiction, AI cannot discern between fiction and reality. As you say, garbage data in (fiction) garbage data out (reality). And, no, I am not calling creative writing a bad thing, but when we have to live in t he real world and want to solve real problems, the creative writing really does get in the way.I’ve used google AI that comes up and have found errors in their results. The economics are way out of whack as well. A lot of tools are being subsidized by heavy investments. They’re trying to get people hooked and then will drastically increase costs. The true operating costs for some of these advanced AI coding tools are astronomical. It’s easy to claim they’re great at 200/month. When they start charging 80k a year, watch out. I personally don’t see with energy and compute costs the break even reaching rational levels any time soon. There is a serious fear that AI is just regurgitating bad information in an endless cycle
Such a small % of current AI tech is worthwhile. Most of it has truly useless slop and a way for greedy owners to fire workers. The economics are way out of whack as well. Sounds like the Microsquash* (Microsoft) method. Make something new, have all the users tell you the problems so you can fix them, then charge for revisions fixing the old problems, then have the users tell you the new problems so you can fix them, then charge for revisions fixing old problems, then ...The economics are way out of whack as well.
