Dino Press Conference | Aug 31

I find it the opposite, he is making them announce whatever decision they have made, thus putting the onus of that decision squarely on them. Sounds to me like he is not good with their not playing.
I read it as they haven't made a decision yet, but have said they may not play this year. DFB is waiting on them.

Agree

Game prep probably starts this week, so no practice no playee.

Poor development of WR talent? You should check the all-ACC teams under Dino.

Oh I get it. Ishmael and erv Phillip's and the grad transfer. I dont count the grad transfer as " development ". Ishmael and Phillip's were given to him from the Shafer days.

19 - Hacket 6’3” 234
18 - Pierce - 6’3” 244
17 - Pierce - 6’3” 237

16 - Parris - 6’4” 244
15 - Moore 6’5” 245
14 - Moore 6’5” 231

None of these guys are/were substantially bigger than Benson is right now.

And none of them have his speed.

I get that but Hackett and benson don't have te size either way you look at it.

I do not understand what you could be thinking.

Independent of positivity or negativity of the media, this is how coaches are. I'm not buying that Dino is this way because of the Syracuse media. I love the guy and am glad he's our coach, but this is one of those reminders that in some ways, he is like every other coach.
I will take my coach behaving like Bill Belichick talking to the media rather than Jeff Fisher.
Say nothing but praise of your opponent when talking to the media. Give them nothing.
If you’re belichick you can do what you want. I still think it’s an annoying game he’s playing and I don’t find Pop’s antics cute even though I find in-game interviews pointless. But, bottom line, it’s hard to argue with what those guys have done.

But either way, the NFL and NBA have baked in fan bases. Syracuse has almost no fan base, so at least if you’re doing the stonewall routine, it should be because it provides some value on the field. Dino was giving nothing two years ago and won 10 games. Drove me nuts but I can see why folks would be fine with it. Last year he gave away nothing and it looked like Maryland was surprised by absolutely nothing.

There is no point other than old school meathead ‘this is how football is played’ BS. Saying we’re really like coley at rover’ gives absolutely nothing of value to carolina. To argue otherwise is absurd.

Benson was college football third team all freshman at tight end last year per pro football focus.

He has always been a tight end Including high school and last year.

Not sure how you can claim Hackett and Benson don’t have the size when the results are there.

This is meathead paranoid coach thinking.

I know Dino isn't immune to it but it's really stupid.
Why would you disclose information that would make you less competitive. It happens at all levels of sports. I know fans want all information now but I would rather wait and the team not loose a possibly advantage and the game.

Respectfully, I am asking , what wrs has dino cultivated, wrs he recruited?

ah, the old “his players” argument. Thought we put this one to bed.

Every CFB coach inherits players from previous coaches. Dino made SS’s better. Erv was a RB. Ish was good but got better. Custis blossomed. Same with transfers. He took AET and made him better. Jackson, better.

Devolved from freshman? Taj Harris has been very good. N.Johnson, good. Sean Riley, good.

WR isn’t a problem under Dino. OL? Different discussion.

The post you were replying to, #105 in this thread, said:

Nice try to shift the topic from WR development to some weird suddenly-restrictive "WR development but only of guys he recruited". You remind me of my 11 year old son.

This season is a bonus if it happens. Any player that wants to sit out is fine they are taking care of their bodies.
If you think this will not effect how coaches look at those players, I do not know what to tell you. No coach is going to look at a player as a team guy if everyone plays but them.

Agree, but 6'3" , 230 isn't te size at the d1 level either. He is a twiner, more of an h back , not an every down te for inline blocking and a pass threat.
I feel this is the type of player Gilbert likes on offense. Look at the current recruiting class.

Then college football shouldn’t happen. These kids aren’t professionals.
We are in the middle of a pandemic.

Yeah, he's developed and gotten production out of that group more than any other. You can make an argument for the kickers? lol

That is a different discussion, and contrary to your opinion the season is probably going to go on. If it does, and the rest of the team plays it will affect how players who decide to sit out are looked upon. They will no doubt have to work their way back into the rotation, but the loyalty and heart of those that played will weigh heavily on that rotation.

Because... coaches are horrible at correctly estimating what known or secret information actually makes them less competitive in a game.

My regard for Dawson has gone up some, he at least declared his intent from the onset. Anyone still not relaying their intent to play this season at this point seems to be letting Team, coaches, and teammates dangle in the wind imo...

That’s the mentality of people who played competitive sports vs the people who never have. The people that haven’t experienced it will Never get it. If someone quits on the team no matter what the reason it’s very hard to come back from that.

My fellow streeler fan let me shine some light . We are very very deep in the slot .
Our WRs as a whole are talented and very deep . We don’t have A+ WRs right now but we have lots of B+ guys that as a whole can preform like A’s .

I’m not sure how you can say we are “very very deep in the slot” when we got next to nothing from that position the previous season. I get that we have what appears to be capable guys at the position but they haven’t done squat in a single game yet.

As a guy who played college sports (not football) I agree that there is a commitment level that is expected, and something that most people can't relate to (perfectly) if they haven't been there. But this is a different reason than virtually anything any of us have ever experienced. This thing has killed hundreds of thousands of Americans, and it's silly to think that doesn't change the game.. Kids their age are hit and hard. If they have a pre-existing medical condition they are at even greater risk. If that's their choice, it's not like thy won't tell their brothers why, it will be known.

When the time comes to rejoin the team, most guys will welcome them back, some might not be excited about it, and might question their loyalty internally but their will be no outward shaming. As for the coaches, as long as a guy can help you win, they can (and often do) look past just about anything. Think about all the guys who get suspended for the stupid stuff they do and they get right back on the field once it's over because they are the best man to get it done.
