Dino's Game 8 Press Conference | Notre Dame

"Babers on RB Sean Tucker’s lack of involvement: “He should have more than five carries in a football game. That’s been addressed.”

If that makes it clear then what should we expect - more than 5 carries ? More than 20 ?
I bet against ND they will try and force it to prove a point. He might get 30+ carries this weekend

???? Did you want Babers to say “Sean will have exactly 14 Carries against ND.

Agree. He didn’t take complete ownership by saying my fault, but at least he didn’t pretend it wasn’t an issue or talk about how he’s really good at it and insult our intelligence.

Agreed, it's better then his prior take about how he knows clock mangement because he coached under a guy 30 years ago.

Your right but in that spot you have to use your hands and hope for the best. The shoulder is going to get flagged on the road at clemson 90% of the time. Tough to remember in the heat of the moment/game but on 3rd and nearly 30 you have to change your approach.

Not to mention, in that precise moment, atmosphere, everything going on, etc., it's very hard for me to believe that our guy was thinking a wink about that particular FSU play from a full season ago. It wasn't as if it was from just a game or two ago.

I will say this though, I'll give Dino credit for deflecting the attention off of his player, etc. for making such a critical "boneheaded" (as Todd Blackledge called it in the TV booth) play in that moment and situation.

You missed the point, after that play Syracuse players were told to escort the players out instead of pulling up. Which is exactly what he did , and the Clemson player went European Soccer on us.He wasn’t remembering an individual play, he was doing what he was supposed to do.

Even if we should be passing lol. However, this is the first game I was surprised by the offensive play calling. However, I assumed Tucker was hurt and that played a role. He did ask to come out a few times and looked visibly hurt/in discomfort/whatever. Also, Clemson has a fantastic D. When you have 1 WR to throw to and a RB that’s potentially injured. There’s not a lot of options. Clemson shut down everything that worked in the first half. We don’t have the playmakers at WR especially, to change how good the Clemson D is. The only thing I think we could have at least attempted was to run the ball with the transfer kid from New Mexico State (?).

Other than that; it is what it is. We aren’t at the same level as Clemson. Wow, I can’t believe it.

Conference Records since joining the ACC
Basketball: 88-76
Football: 25-53

My absolutely unimportant opinion is that I have not enjoyed my fan experience in the ACC.
You would really hate being in the B10 with 2-3 practically secured losses a year then

I don't think Fuentes hit the QB OOB. The QB was in bounds at the time of the hit. The flag was for unnecessary roughness .. IOW, too much force applied in that situation (a QB running on the sideline). The problem is .. they won't call it both ways. Classic. BTW, it needs to be (re) stated that the referee is awful. I've seen his face way too many times and he nearly always officiates with southern cooking. Just who he is.

I didn't like the endzone PI call either. IJ went up over the WR and batted the ball down. He might have had his R hand on the receivers lower back, but that's allowed as long as he doesn't push the guy (except in a Clemson Home game).

As one-sided as the officiating was, we lost because CU shut down our offense in the second half. Simple as that. The calls didn't help, but we just couldn't get anything going. We also didn't contain Shipley - 170+ yards. That's on us. Great game. We were in it to the end, our D played outstanding except the one mistake on the Shipley run. Live and learn. A lot of opportunities left to make this a special season.
I don’t think your first part is correct.

If we are guaranteed 2-3 losses against teams in the B10 then why would we ever want to get in to the playoffs. Sounds like we would never have a chance. We should just shoot for a middling bowl game every year to avoid certain defeat.

A huh. Running full tilt, hearts a pounding, out of breath, crowd screaming, etc. and please gently escort your date to the sidelines. Afterwards, you can then place a corsage on their shoulder pad for such kindness. ;)

Nice spin

And after he released the ball

Yup -- and to me, that's the thing that makes the non-call worse. When a QB tucks it and runs, then they have a higher threshold for getting hit while advancing the ball.

A QB who has released the ball should not then be subjected to big hits -- whether in bounds or out of bounds. A QB who has thrown the ball before the contact is much more vulnerable than a QB who's turned themselves into a de facto running back and is seeking to advance the ball.

The non-call made the call Clemson got a massive double-standard.

I’m convinced we will never get calls in this league, it’s silly to want to leave, we have no place to go. Unless we win three NCs and they move the league office to Trappers in Minoa.
Free order of wing dings with an official ACC badge?

What I don’t get is how anyone could game plan for any game in which Tucker is able to play and not get him 15+ Carries. What’s interesting is that HCDB didn’t say “hey, this was a scheme thing for this game” …. The way it’s presented here is as if someone did something wrong …
At approximately 1:26 he starts to talk about scheme when answering a question about lack of Tucker. He seemed to stutter a bit and also his explanation was it was a simple and effective plan by Clemson. If it was simple, why couldn't we make an adjustment ?

It says he should have more than 5 carries. Why do I need to provide a number?

Tucker’s under utilization negatively impacted the outcome of the game.

It's the ONLY thing that makes sense, given the utilization.

I think that Tucker was used as a decoy in the 1st half, and Shrader took advantage with his legs. At halftime, the clemson D coaches made an adjustment to stop overplaying Tucker and focus on Shrader, and it worked.

But at the end of the day, they have a roster littered with 4 and 5 stars, and we still could have won on the last drive. Just needed to do a little more offensively [although penalties -- and lack thereof -- also stalled some drives when we SHOULD have moved the sticks].

It was coach speak. You get the ball to your play makers. We saw early season when he was getting 2-3 YPC because teams were loading the box and we kept feeding him full expecting him to make a play. Now... he was schemed out of the game.

I feel like this is progress. That's the most it has sounded like Dino has owned certain things.

The big takeaway to me is that he feels much more secure now if he's willing to address those things transparently and take ownership. Which makes sense, he's already bowl eligible, has a team ranked in the top 20, and just went toe to toe with a likely playoff team. Not as risky to speak openly now.

Good to see.

Still, good to hear
