Does the frustration of the fanbase even matter to the AD?

The A.D. is in charge of athletics. The chancellor and the board of trustees would be in charge of approving contracts.
This situation is on Wildhack. He handled football so well he deserves major props.
We all see the status quo is not working.
This season should have been the gift to JB that Wildhack can go in there and demand changes.
I think this statement holds true the majority of the time. I think circumstances in this specific scenario are atypical given span of years, visible and public nature of the person and program and a handful of other reasons.

Remember how the Pasqualoni era ended? It wasn’t AD Dr. Gross that pushed the button.

Not sure why JB should be given yet another season. But, we should know who his replacement is before telling JB its time to retire.

Only if it's inhouse. I would expect ADJW would have a process he would go through evaluating external and internal candidates.

North Carolina is TEXTBOOK MEDIOCRE.
They are barely a NCAA tournament team.
My god look at the damn metrics.

Also listen to damn JB in the postgame complaining about all the minutes his guards had to play like it wasn’t the damn plan the entire team how he constructed the roster.
Then he complains ahout no Jesse like the world can’t remember all the complaints he has thrown at him.
Sorry but this stuff is really frustrating. The double speak and saying stuff is garbage.

North Carolina? That’s a top 40 team. At home. Look at the metrics.

Syracuse is quite literally the definition of mediocre this year.

They are 1-7 vs. quad one teams.
Top 40 is a barely a NCAAT.
If UNC lost to us they would be close to out of the tournament.
The ACC sans Duke doesn’t have a top 25 team.

I don’t think UNC is that good.
They will sneak into the tournament if they make it and hope to win a game.

We had a chance last night because Cole Swider was special.

I stand by everything i said.

They have a bunch of wins against no one and like us they were throttled by this boards beloved Duke team. We aren’t even talking about top 25.

Top 40?

What are we freaking Providence or Seton Hall?

Good grief.

I don’t get the attitude that we should give JB “one more year.”

JB said he intends to keep coaching ‘indefinitely.’

For what purpose? If we suck a little more, then what?
If we are exactly the same, then what?
If we improve by a game or two, then what?
None of the realistic results represent any sort of significant change or benefit. They don’t move the needle. Just prolonged limbo and mediocrity.

JAB earned his gift, and this year was that gift.

At some point, he’s going to have to be forced out, because he doesn’t seem to have any inclination to call it a day voluntarily, short of illness/impairment. And the more he gets asked about it and gets defiant about it, the more he confirms his intentions and handcuffs Wildhack. Actually, that’s already done…. He’s made Wildhack the bad guy by assuming control over the situation and if I were JW, I’d be a bit bothered by that.
Why would he step down - he says he enjoys it. He is under no pressure and answers to nobody. He can pretty much do whatever he wants and knows nobody will check him up.

He is basically daring the school to do something because he knows they won't.

No deal. Hop is 24-7 zone. We need to move on from that. I'm tired of getting waxed on the boards.
Syracuse won the rebounding battle 14/19 games so far in the ACC

Bad time to talk crap about providence considering they’re top 10…

This!
He is in control of his own destiny.
He hates being at home, just listen to him talk about quarantining during the pandemic. He hates it and sounds like his wife hated it too. His hobbies are golf and he does that during off season.
His life passion is Syracuse basketball. And he will never willingly give that up.
He has already said he’s coming back and has no interest in not coaching Cuse.

I don’t get how we can have a smart and talented AD and he can’t do anything to help the basketball program.
Just use your brain and look at this year’s to roster situation and then look at next year’s barring major major upgrades it’s not going to turn around next year.

How does Wildhack not see this and if he does and nothing changes it’s maddening.
SU football has actual disadvantages and limitations.
SU Basketball is not relevant at all.

The fanbase is overwhelmingly getting the issues. Jim Boeheim is not getting it done and its not a one year problem.

This is what is pushing me away from everything. The university as a whole doesn't seem to care about the fans. So why should I care?

It would be alarming if someone in Wildhack’s position doesn’t have a plan for a variety of scenarios to handle the JB transition. Unfortunately, it looks like we’re trending left tail instead of right tail but this is the job he signed up for. It’s hard to see the upside of letting JB hang around much longer.

I do like how he handled football. Maybe I’m overthinking it but I viewed the coaching hires as him sending a smoke signal to the candidate pool for Dino’s replacement that he’s willing to spend to support the program while he buys time to trim the buyout obligation. And if the new hires turn it around then all the better.

+1. It wasn't long ago when we were all clamoring to keep Dino around, regardless of the cost. He did that and had to sign a big deal to do it. Too big to back out.

Exactly nothing changes.
It’s rinse repeat wash.
Now the frustration is finally getting thru this year.
The message has been controlled on here.
But the frustration is real.
This is on Wildhack to stand up and lay down the plan.
JB’s contract lasts how long?
He needs a contract or the school should tell him you aren’t the coach anymore.
He isn’t getting fired. But the school just comes off like they are just cashing checks.

...of his own making.

He had his out in 2017 but let Hopkins walk and reupped with Boeheim. Anybody could've predicted that that was setting things up to get messy.
Exactly - anyone inside or outside the inner circle who had this ending on a positive note was delusional. This was never ending well once we ceded the program back to JB. IF our leaders didn't see it, we should be looking to replace them too.

I posted this in another thread but man number 8 is bleeping laughable now.

We literally wasted a year of Jesse.
It’s so laughable.

Wildhack please take back the program.

Let me make this simpler for you.

We are to North Carolina to what BC is to us.

A guaranteed win.
Yeah it was close pretty fun game to watch. But we threw everything at them and OT wasn’t close.

That’s one of those games that SU wins with a “normal” team from the last 4-5 years and blows them out with a typical SU team.

I have an 8 year old son. Toughest job in the world keeping him an SU fan. Wildhack is losing a whole generation of fans.

If you'd told me fifteen years ago that in 2022 I'd live in the Syracuse area, have two kids and disposable income, and have no connection to the basketball program...I don't even know. I don't think you could've convinced me that that was possible.

But here we are, after having season tickets for 28 years, traveling to countless away and NCAA games, being an over-the-top fan of the team. That's what this administration's done from my perspective.

To the question in the OP, though, doesn't seem like the AD's hurting for money. Even a Duke home game in a crappy season seems to bring in more revenue than probably 99% of the basketball games ever hosted in the Dome, with once-a-season people shelling out $150 to get into the building. So they're fine without me. But the lost-generation thing does seem like a shame, especially when you consider that college athletics is in large part about cultivating alumni donors and future applicants.

This is what is pushing me away from everything. The university as a whole doesn't seem to care about the fans. So why should I care?

The university cares about a) industry standards in athletics administration and b) raising as much money as possible to feed the beast.

(And the second, as of this date at least, does not seem to correlate at all to either winning games or producing teams that as an alumnus I feel particularly good about; Doug Marrone catching lightning in a bottle with some ragamuffin engineering and English students is a feel-good story; Boeheim going 0.500 with Child and Family Studies majors who've spent 15 years of their lives getting specialized basketball instruction, not so much).

Relevant. People weren't going to watch SU. They were going to watch Duke.

That's like saying SU doesn't have a football attendance problem because they had a lot of people at the Clemson game.
