Duke Postgame

Does it seem like JJ has removed what little arc he had left on his three point shot?

It's impressive that the dude can shoot 20% from three when the ball is as close to a line drive as a three can get.

Well, to keep it real, he made 40% of his threes tonight, and is at an unimpressive 31% on the year.
The only guy below 30% in the rotation is Anthony at 24%.

It doesn’t look good (even tho he did hit 2/5 tonight) from three.

He shoots airballs or balls that only hit the backboard. I’m not really sure what’s going on other than to think it’s a mental thing.

I’m sure Red hasn’t helped him at all.

In fairness, who was looking to shoot for us?
How many of JJ's shots came at the end of the clock?
Our guys were intimidated by Duke's defense.

I watched Red's postgame press conference. Nothing embarrassing or newsworthy. But in his answers tonight and a couple answers about Duke after the SMU win, Red basically laughed at the prospect that we were in the same league as Duke. I find this troubling and I hope the next coach has the self-confidence to at least act like we belong.

He like the team didn’t try.

I turned it off at halftime. Probably wouldn’t have done that against any other team, but at the hands of Dook, it was especially disgracing.

But… Michigan is now no. 1.
They terminated their alum coach in 2024 after an 8-24 season, and two short years later, they’re at the top. And they ‘plucked’ their guy out of Florida Atlantic.

This is just the ugly road we have to take. The AD has to identify our next guy.

Donnie Freeman played 21 minutes tonight and took 3 two-point shots.

If that doesn’t speak volumes about the utter dysfunction present in this program I don’t know what does.

Uh, no he was 1-5 from three. I think 4 of those were in the first half.
He went 3-3 inside the arc in 2nd half, after the game was effectively over.

Edit: sorry, I misread that. Yes, you are exactly right. And all of those were basically in garbage time.
It's easy to make a layup, or get a put-back, when the other team stops trying. Like when we were down 30 to UNC and cut it to "only" 10 points, when their walk ons were playing.

I think you missed my point, Matt. Our best player doesn’t know how to play. Our staff doesn’t know how to get him to play. He floated around the three point line and chucked bricks.

He took 3 two point shots, and he was so lazy and ineffective that he rode the pine for nearly half the game.

I did. See edit. I thought you were saying that's how many 3 point shots he took.
I total agree. He is soft as Charmin. I mentioned in another post that he didn't get to the line ONCE in a pretty physical game.

Red allows JJ to get plays at the start of each half by design. He’s done this all year. JJ has plays run for him to kickoff each half.

So right off the bat JJ was chucking against a team much better than us. He settled for jumpers mostly.

JJ having the most FGAs is an indictment of Red at this point. JJ is who he is.

The whole offense is an indictment of Red. Donnie’s usage and choices are crazy. Kingz should be more of a focus. Thank god for William Kyle this game at least. The subs were abominable.

We can agree to disagree on JJ. But I will find the answer to how many guys have started 105+ games and have a TS% below 50%. I have to see who is on that list.

Kingz and George combined for the same number of FGAs as JJ (13) but had 18 points to his 9.

Only player in Syracuse history that will leave here with losing conference record. 24-29 and 49-42 overall.

To anyone expressing the opinion that it isn't as simple as hiring a quality coach who can implement good systems on both sides of the ball, and find system fits without breaking the bank -- yeah, it actually is that simple.

Miami (Oh) is in the top 25. Remind me again:

  • What is their NIL budget?
  • How much did they spend on transfers this past off-season?
  • How many 4- and 5- stars do they have on their roster?
  • What facilities do they have that offer competitive advantage?

Yeah, it IS that simple.
but who does Miami OH play?

Man, it’s a shame there’s no way to make sure the best shooters take the most shots. If there was a way to do that, in some kind of schematically sound offensive structure, we might be better. But there’s no way. Damn.
