Duke Postgame

OMG, this is so sad and awful. I just read the last page of the thread and only came on to say that I have 6 Duke friends, and 4 of them said, after commiserating with our loss, that we have good players but need a new coach. They all want to see us succeed and be a worthy rival again. But that is only because they know me. I must agree with the poster who said most Duke fans don’t think about us for more than 2 seconds.

The effort and intensity Scheyer gets out of a bunch of 5-star recruits annually is really impressive.

Hell of a coach and Duke falls into another generational talent on the sideline.
Is this in sarcasm font? If not, oh my. Even Red could get Duke's current team into the ncaa tourney with those guys, I mean come on. I'm not saying Scheyer isn't a good coach but Duke has whatever players they want. They have an unlimited bank account to spend, truly.

Theres a lot of teams with a lot of money, Scheyer gets the best of the best. Thats not by accident. If he wasnt a good coach top players wouldnt go play under him. I know we like to diminish what other programs do to make us feel better but pretending like Scheyer isnt a good coach is insane.

and yet, red couldn't get this team on the bubble of the ncaa tourney. in fact, he had them out of it by mid feb.

I’m loathe to put everything on JJ’s shoulders. No, he’s not an efficient producer. But he takes so many shots because he is the only player quick enough and versatile enough to get/create shots. We’d all like Kingz’ percentage, but Kingz doesn’t do enough to get more shot opportunities. I don’t think JJ is a chucker. He doesn’t take a lot of bad shots. He might miss them badly, but he works for those opportunities and takes open threes.

His inefficiency is a fault of the (lack of an) offensive scheme and a lack of foresight, insight, and execution. That’s on the staff.
some of this is true, but JJ has been on campus for years and cant make a layup with his left hand. His lack of left hand costs us 4 points per game.

Let me just point out that Eric Devendorf used to drive to the left and use his right hand to finish, too.

JJ is not an all-time great SU player, but who is playing well enough to take his minutes?
I'll wait.

It’s on Red. He’s featured him in the offense every year. We could have moved on. We didn’t. Not shocked it turned out this way. It was a concern at the end of last season.

I'm sorry, but Judah was the featured player JJ's first year here.
Donnie was supposed to be the featured player last year.

And they supposedly filled out the roster with a great PG, a great 3 pt shooter, and front court depth, so JJ could play a more supporting role.

To me, he has never been the focus of the offense.

It's just that the other guys can't get shots on their own, and Red doesn't get them to run plays for more than 5 or 10 minutes a game, if he's lucky.
