I'm hearing LeMoyne. Was the eighth school figured out? I am on page 6 of this thread still and freaking out. Zona, USC, Auburn, OkSt, Miami, 'Ville, South Carolina, and...?
Bruce Pearl at Auburn is probably done as a HC. He already had a show cause penalty against him before he got back into coaching a few years ago.Bilas and Greenberg in espn just now basically said the head coaches, pitino in particular, are screwed. an asst does something wrong, it also falls on the HC per NCAA rules.
Please be Kentucky. Was the eighth school figured out? I am on page 6 of this thread still and freaking out. Zona, USC, Auburn, OkSt, Miami, 'Ville, South Carolina, and...?
So, I get shoe companies doing this to get a player to sign with them once they go pro... but could it be bigger than that? Adidas says "Hey man, let's funnel players to X school, get them in some final fours, now we're selling a ton of jerseys, clothing" wash rinse repeat?
Disclaimer - It;s only 9:20 here, I've only had a half a cup of coffee.
I was a DOJ attorney for a few years. (Miles and miles removed from this case.) One thing that I think would surprise most people is how open Justice is to just talking to people. DOJ has a lot of resources, and unlike local law enforcement, doesn't necessarily have a constant line of run-of-the-mill crimes filling up the docket. So, DOJ has the luxury of entertaining things, even if a lot don't pan out. It wouldn't surprise me if this started with someone tipping off an attorney or FBI agent in SDNY to this specific conduct. All you really need is one person to think there's something to it.
It also wouldn't be surprising if this stemmed from a different investigation, though I would kind of be surprised if it was an IRS investigation. In part, this just doesn't seem like enough money in the scheme of things. Addidas did $20 billion in revenue last year. A few million dollars won't be that difficult to hide on a financial statement.
Maybe the most shocking thing to me is it took this long for this stuff to get out. A lot of people have kept a lot of secrets for a long time.
But Lonnie is a 2017 kid. Just started school.

Any special relevancy that the US attorney for the Southern District of New York geographically speaking seems to be leading a national investigation?
and if it extends to football where the real shady behavior is taking place.
Maybe. Or maybe he was subject to FBI GJ subpoena...He has no duty to keep the info quiet. His source, if discovered, might have a problem, but not sure I see a problem for Fraschilla.
Isn't that where financial crimes tend to go?Any special relevancy that the US attorney for the Southern District of New York geographically speaking seems to be leading a national investigation?
Guessing money doesn't come from sponsoring companies, but rather, wealthy boosters?I mean, how can Alabama and UK not be involved in this, unless the FBI was looking in (all) the wrong places or ignoring certain schools. Why follow a money trail and stop where they did? This tells me more chit is about to hit the fan ... as it should.
I don't consider football to be worse that basketball. Basketball kids are getting vultured at 10 years old by the AAU system and the shoe companies.
This is cataclysmic. Like everyone loses their job stuff. Coaches, AD, Chancellor BOT

This from Syracuse.com story... references a 2018 Miami recruiting target and a "rival school affiliated with a shoe company offering $150,000." Is that Jalen Carey? If so, is Syracuse or UConn the rival school? What other major targets is Miami trying to get for 2018?
"Along with Louisville, the men are alleged to have conspired to pay $150,000 to a player's family in order to get him to commit to the University of Miami in the Class of 2018.
The charges allege that the request came with the knowledge of a coach within the University of Miami program.
Code reportedly said that the coach, "knows something gotta happen for it to get done."
In the charges, Code is reported as saying that a school affiliated with a rival shoe company was offering $150,000 for a commitment.
In another conversation allegedly recorded on a wiretap, Code worries that the asking price might rise to $200,000 and says that, if it does, Adidas won't pay.
The charges do not specifically name the player or say whether he is currently at the University of Miami."
