FHCDM and tension in Buffalo

Well he did bring back a program back from the dead. And dead is not an exaggeration.

It's a Gross exaggeration. Again, we don't get to 8-5 in just his 2nd year if the program was dead.

I hope Jon Bon Jovi gets it ... he can do a pre-game show:

Dougie used to coach at the Cuse
The players went on strike
He's down on his luck
Its tough so tough

He took the whole staff away
They were in demand
He even took Ty away
For love, for love

He said "We gotta jet down the Thruway, Scott
It doesn't make a difference if you stay or not ...
You've got Doc Gross and that's a lot
For Buffalo, we'll give it a shot"

Whoa we're half way there ...
Whoa Watkins cost us our derrier
Trust EJ we'll make it I swear
Whoa we're half way there, employed I swear ...

EJ throws a pick six in his socks
Now he's hit the bench
They call Kyle Orton, he rocks
Sammy its okay, someday ...

Well, he's now out of the picture.

Wow. Put me with Go on this one. Who wanted this team after GRob? Edsall? Holtz? Am sure there were others and I know of a non-public name. None. NONE would've been 8-5 in year 2.

All on Jon. Do not shoot me through the heart. Otherwise, you're to blame.

I don't think the point was that anyone can do it ... I think he is saying it wasn't a miracle though.

Two prior years 5-19, losses to Akron and Miami Oh. Two of five wins UB and NEastern.

It's not an exaggeration at all. Just because you say it doesn't make it so. The FACTS say otherwise.

This program was dead. 6 rankings out of 30 better than one hundred, highest were two 55th's.

Defensive rankings.

2007 2008
Total Defense 111 101
Rushing Defense 108 101

Pass Efficiency Defense 109 101
Scoring Defense 104 101
Sacks 118 100
Tackles For Loss 95 104
3rd Down Defense 109 117

Offensive Rankings

2007 2008

Name the person -- that Syracuse could get, mind you -- who'd be 8-5 at Syracuse after 2 years of GRob?

None of that says the program was dead unless you have a different definition of dead. Dead would not recover in just the 2nd season. You always use equate losing with dead. Two different things.

I take a glimpse at the OT board now and again -- and Go and I are 180 degrees apart on our politics, but he and IB are my favorite football posters (OX is still my overall favorite, for those of you keeping score). [I'd written more, and it was possibly mean -- but the Hokies just won.]

Set a P5 baseline then. How much life would you give Wake? Purdue? Washington State?

I work for a small non-profit where we all shared our "elevator story" about what we do. I care less about what your elevator story for "Washington State" is than how the next guy's couldn't blow it out of the water.

Did I just post the win loss record?

Looking at those collective rankings. Couldn't do one thing even poorly.

Look at the starting point. Going 8-5 after two years after that is a miracle. The fact that he was catching crap from a lot of the fanbase and some of the powers that be at SU was ridiculous.

Terrible != dead

We sucked for 4 years. That's not smu

You find another P5 team that had that combined horrific level of wins and losses and statistical performance and get back to me.

I believe we had some talent under Grob. He was just a terrible Head coach. This is just a small pint, but do you remember his postgame press conferences? He literally had no clue what happened in the game. He couldn't answer any questions about situations from the game.

Doug Marrone pulled a brilliant maneuver by sticking his neck out for his young QB. Orton understands what he is doing and is a professional and probably supports his "creating tension" on the team. Imagine a coach trying to give his team an edginess , crazy.

Well the rah rah players coaches we've had recently haven't exactly worked out so if HCDM wants to be a tyrant, so be it.

La Canfora is reporting everything is line for the Pegulas to buy the team so it's playoffs or find a new job for this staff and front office.

Yes but a giraffe wouldn't have taken over a team that lost at home to Akron, had gone 10-37 in the prior 4 years and within 4 years have two bowl wins, 3 wins over WVU(2 blowouts), a blowout over Louisville, a win at Mizzou(yeah I know they went 5-7 that year and their best player was suspended). A saint? I think not. A hell of a coaching job by DM? I think so, yes

I think he did a great job...as far as it went. Then he bailed out just as we were entering a new conference...and took our coaching staff with him.

Is there anyone here who didn't expect him to be our coach right now?

That he did but his stock was really high and he took advantage of that. Timing sucked and taking most if the SU staff with him made things tough for HCSS but there is hardly ever a convenient way of doing these things. I also think DM is a guy who won't stay anywhere too long. Burns out himself and players

Shafer went and got the staff he wanted, he had a deal with all of those guys, he got the band back together.
