Future Head Coaching Candidates Thread

He'd have a much better opportunity to recruit higher end players in Syracuse. I think it'd be a homerun hire. I don't think our offense can get worse than it has been. We were saved this year by natural scorers in Andrew White and Tyus Battle paired with an NBA product in Tyler Lydon.

UVA's problem isn't talent, it is the system. I don't want any part of the Pitt, UVA, Butler, Wisconsin style of play.

Bennett makes about 2.1 a year, we could definitely up that price. UVA would be the one having to open up the wallet seeing as we have everything to offer.

Not trying to be a wise guy but have you followed SU for a long time?

Tony Bennet - currently making 2.1 mil (similar to JB at UVA) this is a great candidate that certainly would not absolutely break our bank. The money pressure would be on the Hokies.

Buzz Williams - 3.3 a year, this is one wear we'd find some financial strain.

John Beilein - 2.84 a year...would be tough to swing from UM.

Of the big name p5 guys.

Agreed. Stylistically, really boring basketball.

eh 15-18 years. I just don't know what to expect money wise between Football vs. Basketball. With the new AD, the fact that JB's been a bargain and bball being our top dog...we could have more to spend than we'd think.

Very well could.

Anything is possible but given SU's operating history GMac would be a potential candidate as JB's replacement. I guess he'd have to assess that possibility and if he thought he had a real chance then he'd be crazy to leave. If no shot then he'd be smart to move to UW. I guess if he stays at SU then that might be telling.

The money is there - the willingness to spend it? Questionable.

That's what I figured. However I think Buzz/Beilein/Bennett - of the p5 guys - are far more realistic than Rick and Jay.

There are so many moving parts to predicting any individual's like GMAC's potential moves. Children , family considerations, parent's ages etc all personal issues that could affect decisions that we would have no clue about.

Cronin's been impressive at Cincy. Not really a worthy candidate but a name potentially worth throwing around.

Edit: eh maybe not.

Of course, moving 3,000 miles away from home would be a major move.

Richard Pitino?

forget Little Ricky, let's just go for Senior. People need to think big. Besides, the Italian Restaurants in CNY have to be better than in Louisville.

Don't think it's possible, but jay wright at syracuse would just be unthinkable. Players coach, getting top end talent (better natural recruiting at Syracuse then nova). Granted he has had his share of flame outs in the tournament besides the championship last year, but he would deffinetly get higher quality players here.

Buzz Williams is my first choice, just because Sean Miller would nevertheless leave UA.

Gregg Marshall was born in SC and raised mostly in VA and spent much time in NC. Until he went to Wichita Stm his entire coaching time was spent in original ACC country. I have no doubt that Marshall would love to be at a top basketball program in the ACC. Syracuse fits the bill.

Kevin Willard has that look, and has done top work at the Hall. He has a proven northeast recruiting record and his dad was an assistant at SU so maybe young Kevin was there then. Great court demeanor.

He's also one of the ten highest paid coaches in America. Don't get me wrong - with Pearl31's permission ;) - I'd drive to Wichita and escort him to the Wichita airport so that he could be on time for his flight to Syracuse.

If we can't get a big name or don't want to ante up, I bet we'll hear about Becker from UVM
