FWIW, strong possibility of PINSTRIPE Bowl

No one outside of, or for that matter INSIDE of, Syracuse will care about this Bowl game. I am with the others, Nova is a no brainer to attend. We have done the NYC thing too many times for it to be "cool" at this point.
more will than college basketball.

I mean really does anyone outside of Syracuse care about

football

So let me get this straight, if someone chooses to watch the basketball game over the football game they aren't a true football fan?? Is that what you're trying to get across here??

Like I've said before, SU became more of a basketball town as the BE conference lost its prominence in football when Miami, VT & BC left - some our best brands left us leaving us with just basketball brands. The BE conference was left with few choices and focused mostly on the success of basketball as few prominent football brands remained (SU, Pitt & WV).

During this same time, our good Doctor hired a dud in Grob that practically killed our football brand (mirror of what was happening in BE conference) while 2 no-names came unto the scene - Rutgers & UConn and also Lville building upon its recent success by joining the BE conference.

For you junkies arguing over basketball or football - one can argue that our invite had to do more with the rich historical football tradition coupled with the name brand of SU basketball (and 2-3 signature zone) that fit really well into the ACC conference. Part of me really wonders if it weren't for the rich tradition we have in football combined with the recent success of going to 2 bowls in 3 years, would we even be in the ACC as we would be no different than UConn or Rutgers.

What the basketball junkies don't understand yet is that the world has changed and is dominated by college football - and that this is a real football conference with FSU having the potential of winning a national championship. That is the new reality that hasn't sunk in yet.

Will we ever catch up to the rest of the US and the prominence of college football that drives the bus? I don't know yet but it starts with making bowl games and for fans to go to those bowl games. It also starts with making investments in facilities like the IPF. That's how you build upon the brand - one step at a time.

It really is disheartening the short sided discussions that have gone on in this thread as the really long term success of Syracuse sports is dependent upon the long term success of Syracuse football - otherwise if the ACC in the future were to break up - the strong football branded teams in the ACC will win out and having a strong SU football brand literally protects all of SU sports.

I'd strongly prefer another bowl. I chose Nova for my Dome basketball game to attend this year although I probably should've factored the bowl schedule into the equation. I do agree with those saying that this is a nice problem to have, just wish we could all watch both games live.

If it wasn't at least in part a football decision, Uconn would be sitting in our perch. Our football legacy meant a lot in this whole deal. Same deal with Pitt.

Please don't take this personally, but I find that statement pretty humorous coming from someone from Canada who has a hockey player as an avatar.

I think our invite like you said had to deal with both basketball and football. I know the football is the dominant brand and that is the cause for expansion and rebuilding. But like you said the ACC saw a syracuse football tradition and a Syracuse basketball program that has been producing quality teams and wins, and thought we can get the best of both worlds with Syracuse.

And I can't remember did arbit or someone else say that the realignment of cuse to ACC had a lot to do with basketball, because the ACC wanted more quality basketball teams???

Sure we will but it will look horrible compared to the last two bowls. I have no faith with the NYC area fans to show up when a big hoops game is on at nearly the same time. Remember we have nearly 30k Upstate NY fans committed to the Nova game.

Ask to go to Dallas, Shreveport or St Pete (if some deal can be made). We rep the best at St. Pete, Dallas and Shreveport in that order. Fan turnout will be no worse than some other P5 teams.

At this point this would be ideal, especially the Beef Bowl. While I would love to go to another Pinstripe Bowl it just isn't a good fit this year with the hoops game. We can't count on our fanbase to show up.

There is nothing wrong with the basketball first fans going to the hoops game. There is also nothing wrong with the football first fans stressing the importance of this bowl game.

However I am pretty confident that all of those who are 50/50 like myself will agree that in this case football has to come first.

Does that offend you that I am from Canada or that my avatar is a hockey player? There are plenty of football fans in Canada...

No they are more than welcome to attend the basketball game idk why one would if a bowl game is on but that's fine. Technically, if your a football fan you go to the bowl game. If you think you are a 50-50 basketball an football fan and you go to a basketball game in December than you might not be a 50-50 fan

Bottom line is the pinstripe bowl is kinda getting old, I want beef o Brady right down in recruiting land.

What if you don't go to either and watch both on TV?

I stopped reading on page 4 and doubt I finish getting through all 7. The fact is, this is the last game for the seniors on the football team. They have been through a ton and deserve the support from a pretty weak (overall, not totally) fan base. Basketball season is just getting going. I understand that it is going to be a big game...but guess what, not the last big game of the year. This bowl game is more than a 6-6 vs a 6-6 meaningless game. Its a chance to show these kids that we have appreciated the roughly 4 or so years that they have busted butt for our entertainment...and it shows possible recruits that we care about the kids that play for our school of choice. To say that it is meaningless is a kick to the groin for Spruil, Bromley...on and on and on. terrible.

I agree...some of the folks here have been downright rude to you...BTW, welcome Canadian. I have have no fight in the hockey war but I love having Cuse fans in Canada.

If you watch both on TV your that guy that wants to go to the bowl game but feels guilty about missing the basketball game or you are the guy that goes to the basketball game but feels guilty about missing the football game.

My point in all of this is having a strategy in place to survive the next major round in conference realignment should there be one near when the ACC media deal is done. I would hope that investments are made to enhance the football brand. If we continue to rely on just basketball and not build the football brand, assuming it comes down to 4 16 team conferences, will we be included?

Why not be strong in both and make investments, just like we did with the Melo center for basketball, in the football facilities and brand building to increase attendance to be a strong contender in the final end game if it comes down to that?

Personally I just don't see any real vision yet but a step in the right direction is in building the IPF. It's pretty quiet over there so I have no idea if the IPF is happening or if it is just on hold until the spring.

I don't know if "guilty" is the right word. But I would submit that this would describe most of the people on the board and that in either event thay guy is a true fan of both SU basketball and football.

Yup.

You make it sound like every fan needs to attend the bowl game or turn your fan card in. I take it you are not married and if you are you dont have kids. Attending a bowl game in december with active kids is literally impossible. Throw in peoples jobs (mine being one of them) where its impossible to travel in the month of december (mostly because of our stuffbag president and his awful health care law but thats for another topic) and traveling to a bowl game even in nyc isnt happening. I havent even mention cost which for some people is also an issue.

Going to a 2 and a half hour basketball game is doable. Giving up an entire day based on what i mentioned for some people is hard. It has nothing to do with what is more important. Something your posts are missing. You make is sound like i walk out of my house and i am on the 50 yard line of the bowl game

Yeah, kids are a game changer. And by that I mean sometimes when you're watching the game, they change the channel to Curious George or something.
