This is why you can't argue with G'Town fan (I use singular because he's the only one I'm aware of). They don't get nuance. My point, that you completely and utterly missed (coeds for example) is that he'll pick a school based on reasons that are arbitrary and singular to HIM. None of us can forecast where he'll go because we don't know what in his 18 year old brain truly entices him. If it's the fact that Greg Monroe settled into G'Town and played really good ball for a couple of years then good for him.
Monroe wasn't "developed" at G'Town, he didn't get better there, he used it as a stepping stone, which is what Noel will do. A legacy of big men means about as much to these kids, as the fact that G'Town used to be led by a Thompson that actually could coach. Point being, Monroe didn't get better at G'Town, he was already a complete product, so using the "legacy" as if that actually means something is a silly argument. Your legacy means nothing. You think what gets this kid going is thinking "hey Greg Monroe played there! What a tradition they have!" By using the legacy argument, what you're really saying is "there is something inherent at G'Town (coaching, facilities, etc...) that is conducive to producing big men who are prepared for the rigors of the NBA."
You have a big man who is an all star -- good for you. He was a great player when he got to Georgetown, and is a great player now. What exactly did Georgetown do for him that any number of powerhouse schools couldn't have done? He was a great player at Georgetown because he's a great player, not because Georgetown has some magic voodoo that "creates" great big men. So like I said before, the legacy argument is borderline ed, because it doesn't mean a damn thing to a kid who is already ready for the NBA.
Like I said, he could pick Georgetown, but the legacy thing probably won't be the reason.
In your foolish attempt to humble me you missed what I said earlier. Perception is reality. You act as though I am saying we had great big men in the NBA 20 years ago. This thing is ongoing and played up by the media.
And if you think Gtown's staff did not have a huge hand in developing one Mr. Roy Hibbert you are both mad and insane at the same time. Damn kid could hardly run or lift the ball over his shoulders in his frosh season at Gtown.
