Game Day to UCF

It is reported the only sign Kirk has ever complained out and had taken down is one that said
Kirk drinks Appletinis
So if we ever get it. I want a row of those signs.

What a joke ESPN. UCF-Cincinnati over ND-SU a pair of top 12 teams.
It’s not the NBC thing either.

Being in a college atmosphere on campus is criteria #1 as it should be. Gameday is all about the aesthetics and vibe of the production and NYC and Yankee stadium in the ugly, cold Bronx isnt the least bit attractive.

You have a right to your opinion. That is what this is. They do whatever they want and chose Orlando.

Gameday not choosing NYC is absurd for so many reasons.

- largest US media market
- both ND and SU have big fan bases there
- #3 vs #12
- game has major CFP implications (UCF/Cincy not so much)
- it's the damn northeast, so many sets of eyeballs and a huge opportunity to continue capitalizing on the resurgence in northeastern football
- Wildhack was #2 in command, no love there? Not to mention the insane numbers of Newhouse alum at ESPN

Such a joke. Shame on ESPN. Choosing UCF/Cincy does absolutely nothing to push the NCAAF's needle.

I'd like to also add that Syracuse is at the MSG on ESPN both Thursday and Friday. Gamed could of done something with that.

I think it comes down to the crowd at UCF would be a little crazier than in the Bronx.

I think College Gamefay simply prefers to be on college campuses.
Maybe but they went to Jacksonville for UGA-Florida and when TCU-Ohio State played at JerryWorld.
They go wherever they chose. Herbstreit not having to travel probably matters more than college campuses.

Here’s the way I look at it. The only games worthy of the prime time spot on ABC were a game already scheduled for the LHN (Iowa State v. Texas), a game with a team that was on last week (Duke v. Clemson) and :vomit: (Cincinnati v. UCF). I almost think ESPN may have tried negotiating with Texas to get it moved over, but they refused/wanted too much. Had Oklahoma State beaten OU, I’m sure the WVU v. Oklahoma State game would have been attractive. Their hand was forced with Cincinnati v. UCF and they figured they’d take a chance. Now, they had an AAC game scheduled for ABC prime time, they had to figure out a way to hype the matchup in order to get eyeballs. Based on name recognition alone, neither team moves the needle. Maybe they figured that their best way to hype the matchup was via Gameday. Had they been able to put any other game on, I think you’re looking at a Yankee Stadium Gameday. It is very interesting that it took them so long to announce Gameday would be at UCF. This shows that there was some sort of discussion and or hesitation going on.

And with all that being said, I’m probably waaaaaay over thinking it. Let’s just beat the damn Irish.

It really seems to make no logical sense. How do you miss the opportunities that you outlined above. Even if you didn't have a couple of factors from above, the ones that were left would still be good enough to have a gameday. Just crazy and weird.

I do buy the logic that UCF deserves some recognition for what they have done.
But the "one game that stands out" comment
C'mon Man!
Its not about recognition gameday prides itself apparently by being at the best game. The best game is cuse notre dame and it's not close.

im not sure thats 100% accurate though. ucf has won 22 straight. thats an amazing feat no matter what conference it is in. gameday just did an acc game, in the same part of the country. the stars did not align this time. its unfortunate but not sure why everyone is so huffy and puffy over it and calling espn pathetic. lets not act like high schoolers.

yankee stadium would've been very cool, but whatever. im sure our game will be the most talked about and im just glad im going... :)

Everyone has their thoughts on this but i am not really surprised that they picked UCF.
- Already had a Notre Dame gameday this season
- They seem to try to have 1 non-P5 game every year, this was the last week to do that
- Potentially worrying about a crowd showing up at Yankees Stadium at 9 AM
- Logistics with doing Yankee Stadium/NYC in general
- Giving UCF some recognition for 22 straight wins
- Marketing for their big primetime game

gameday isnt just to promote there best game its usually the best game in general

I am 100 percent sure that last year the biggest game of week seven was played at

*adjusts glasses, checks notes*

James Madison University.

Yep.

And also, who cares? It's a huge game because it's a huge game, not because goofy-ass ESPN says so.

Let's just keep rolling.

I’d honestly be a little more upset if it was a game on campus that got mixed. But it wasn’t. It was in The Bronx, 300 miles away.

I’d be way cooler with them picking a team like that as a novelty shtick over the second (by a mile) best game of the day.

What I don’t get: why should ESPN do Gameday to promote a game on NBC and a second consecutive ACC game?

Yeah, but anytime they go to South Bend, that's what they're doing.

But I get it this time, it's not so much about NBC, they know they can't compete with them at 2:30. It's about trying to get people to watch their 8 pm ABC game. Many times that game sells itself, not this week.

We have the game of the week. Everyone should be happy.

I look at it as going to CFU is a novelty shtick.

We’ve heard a litany of dismissals of this factor based on past practice, but they are frankly a bit naive.

I’m betting the NBC factor was not small in their calculations.

How about Gameday is supposed to rep the home team. And maybe the chances that we’d have more fans there threw that off.

I agree with all of the points you outlined, but in the end NYC is a crappy backdrop for college football. Gamedays premise is the on campus look.
