Garrett Shrader

That’s fair. Honestly I felt like I was nitpicking as I was typing what I wrote as I was very happy with his performance generally speaking. I do want to see him make some deep throws though. Probably a grass is greener thing on my part.
Yeah, he was only missing that element of his game on Saturday. He hits those deep shots and we win by 30+

I wonder if Dino had nightmare thoughts of when TD came in for ED at WMU...WMU scored 21 pts in quick order. I do agree that 22-9 was pretty safe to put him in...but...FB coaches are worst case scenario guys.
22-9 is not safe if a new quarterback comes and throws a pick 6 or fumbles. As fans, we don’t need to see what Shrader can do. Only Dino needs to know what he can do.

Can't wait to hear the chorus when we do see Shrader and he's not as accurate as TD.

You act like Devito is so much better with his arm... dude literally just threw for 92 yards against Ohio... only had like 5.4 yards an attempt. For a guy who is supposed to have such a superior arm he has way too many games of throwing for less than 200 yards.

It’s not all on TD even though he and the offensive line were both bad last year. Some of the wide receivers need to catch the ball. Even during our debacle season last year, TD put some of his passes right on the numbers and wr were dropping them. Taj had the least drops of any.

that’s the QBs fault? The O design calls for a lot of short passes. He was 65% on Saturday.

Here’s what I do know. Babers job depends on it so if Shrader gave them a better chance to win right now he’d be starting.

Devito played well, it was the Florida State model from a few years ago. Manage the offense and do what you need to.

How many did we run for? Game wasn’t in doubt, we were out to prove a point and throwing for 200 yards was way down the list of priorities

Yup. Dino is fully aware that he needs to win. That’s why he made the coaching changes and brought in transfers. I don’t understand why people don’t understand that. Shrader has to be that much better than Devito no matter how much we want to see him play.

Tommy missed him once in the endzone.

PFF credited Taj with the drop on the deep shot not a miss by Devito. Tough catch but hit his hands
As another poster so correctly posted, that was an example of a young man trying to score a touchdown first instead of doing what you need to score the touchdown, catch the ball. I'm old and old school, in my day you laid out for that ball and it's first and goal. Go Orange!!!!!!

As a player? He was awful

Better than Randy Edsall

In my opinion no one, including Dino, knows what we have in Garrett Shrader. Shrader's greatest asset, what would really set him apart from TD, can only be demonstrated in a live, full-contact football environment. That is why Shrader deserves to see the field. He has been good enough to challenge Tommy without being able to show his pocket presence, escapability and running ability in a full-contact situation.

Remember years ago, the grad transfer QB Drew Allen (I think that was his name) was the starter early in the season? He just wasn't moving the offence and Terrell Hunt replaced him in a game and wowed everyone with his dual-threat ability. After the game Schaeffer said that Hunt had never shown that ability in practice. Of course not, you can only show that in live action. That's why GS should be given a chance to show fully what he could bring to this team on the field. A fair evaluation of a dual-threat QB must include seeing him in a full-contact environment.

As mentioned multiple times above, Dino is fighting for his job so I do believe he will put him into a game soon because I think he also wants to see exactly what he has in Shrader. I trust him enough to defer to his judgement as to when that should occur.

2020 Pitt game 9/15 32 yards 0 TD 1 Int

I'm firmly in the "I know who this qb is" camp until they prove me wrong.

We had that odd game out at Western Michigan in 2018 when HCDB brought TD in early. Dungey was clicking, and I think he thought he could throw a change-up at them. Instead, the offense went out of sync, and TD struggled. (TD more than made up for it in subsequent games that year, but I think it made DB a little snake but about using two QBs. It’s not always just about bringing the next guy in. There is a sensitive balance, and I don’t blame him at all for feeling like the Ohio game just didn’t play out in such a way that he could put GS in easily.)

Had to stop reading after I saw this. You are implying that this staff doesnt know what to look for when evaluating players playing in the system that they designed. Coaches that have been doing physical and psychological evaluations on daily basis but you think Shrader deserves to play based on what? Internet chatter and fan preference? Previous highlights? You lost me there. Shrader deserves it when he earns it. That's the real world. No hand outs given.

That long fly route down the Cuse sideline wasn't TD's fault. He led him perfectly. I had a perfect vantage point to see that Taj slowed up ever so slightly at one point...and couldn't make it up. Cuseregular and I think he might have momentarily lost it in the lights. If he didn't slow down at that one point he would have caught it in stride.

Those seats we had were awesome...I love going to MAC stadiums once in awhile.
Dont you dare blame the lights ;)
