generating money for facilities

You don't spend what you don't have.

I understand that, and I didn't mean that we should build it now. My point was with just being in the ACC 4 years from now, the money is there for what we need. The upgrades these past few years seems to have narrowed the gap with other like schools. My personal opinion is that a Melo center equivalent for football would be enough. 120 yd field, medical/training room, maybe an additional weight room. If we saved the money from the ACC for 4 years, that money would be enough for a nice IPF, and I think that is all we need. Unfortunately, schools like OKst, Oregon, and Tenn have set the bar extremely high. I'm not saying we need there facilities, but why come here when you could go there? I think we need a nice Melo center-like facility for football and 4 years from now, I see no reason why we can't break ground.

if money is the big issue why has so little been done to actually ask for money other than try to get the big fish to donate?

there are between 40-50K season ticket holders for bball and fball on the mens side alone. do they sell season passes for lax or womens sports?

Why has there not been an effort to notify the season ticket holder base of the need to upgrade and ask for help. Ask for donations $25-$50-$100 to help the program. Offer some perks. Offer everyone a free ticket to a game who donates. let people in early to a game and do something on the replay boards.give us a walk thru the new facilities.

if you could get 50-70% of the people to donate $50 you net a million. try to get a big donor or 2 to match what is raised then the people and the donor see everyone is vested. what ever the money brings in use it and name something after the fans that raised the money so the little people feel like we did something.

put donation barrels around the dome for every game. if you avg net 5K a game over the 50 games that adds up.. just think off the wall.

what happened to the 50/50 they used to do? we make $500-1000 a game during hockey season with only 3500 people

had we been doing the small stuff for the last years we probably have 5 million raised already.

These are great ideas. I nominate you to make it happen. I have a $100 bill with football facilities written on it. I just don't know where to send it.
Herein lies the problem. I'm not an SU graduate, I don't live local and don't have season tickets, but I am a huge fan who grew up n Syracuse and would definitely donate if anyone asked me. How does the university target people like me across the country? Somebody needs to step up big time!

How do you know this not one of the plans? I know there isn't anything coming from the admin side of things as far as news, etc. However, keep in mind, SU is a private school, not a public one...therefore run much differently and at times not as transparent as a public school would be. As I have been advocating, we (fans) need to have patience and wait and see what happens...I know it's tough, I hate waiting just as much as anyone. But remember, money is tight right now due to the economy and other factors, we are still in the Big East and will not be getting as much money from them this year as in past as we still owe the remainder of the exit fee. It will take a couple/few years for the new ACC contract to kick in and for schools to realize just how much they will get. Also, it will be a few years (don't remember how long) before SU qualifies for full shares...

To keep rehashing this stuff right now is like :bang:.

No, this is not the answer but I appreciate the link. Do we expect the potential thousands of doners nationwide to join syracusefan.com and ask the same question so they can get a link? Somebody at the school needs to target these people and build a machine. Get on Facebook, build targeting databases, web uses, I can't believe nobody is doing that yet. We are all frustrated by the lack of action with new facilities. I believe a great use of money will be to hire a savvy, experienced, street wise fundraiser. He/she will pay for their own salary several times over.

And if the ACC falls apart before that time, what then?

I know what you were getting at...was just trying to help with a link. To be honest I went looking for a Booster site previously and couldn't find one. To be honest I had seen the Orange Club tab/site, but didn't know it was the SU Booster Club, obviously my ignorance...but makes you wonder if there are more fans out there like me who wonder the same thing? I know I reference FSU a lot, but they are only 90 min from me, but their fund raising wing is called The Seminole Boosters...Maybe make it easier for the big dummies like me and call it The Orange Booster Club?

It is an interesting enigma. In my opinion, it one truly wants to donate any specific amount of money to the school, it can simply be done with not too much effort. The bigger issue I see is making sure that one's particular donation is going to exactly what the donor's intent is.

However, I agree that there appears to be room for improvement for what you and several others have mentioned. Although, I would also assume that if the University were indeed actually getting numerous inquiries from potential donors, etc., it would trigger someone there at SU to say, hey, we need to establish a dedicated dept. for things of this nature... :noidea:

And if the ACC falls apart before that time, what then?

What if a metoeor strikes the Dome before then? You can play the what if game forever...should plan for the future, not worry about it.

You got it now. :)

Yeah...thanks. Sadly had seen this before, but never went there thinking of it as a booster club. Thought it was something else...thought it was a club at the Dome for people who paid money...know what I mean? Not sure how to explain it...when looking for a booster club page, just didn't equate it to being THE booster club...

Somebody needs to send this to TGD and Shafer stat!

Really - really - hate to sound like the persistent nattering nabobs of negativity on here, but I don't have a lot of faith that e-mailing or phoning any of these people wouldn't be anything other than a waste of ninety seconds.

Why? Anecdotally, it doesn't seem likely to produce results. The poster on here who discussed the (terrific) idea for a $44 donation program that got nowhere seemed to get the runaround. Thirteen months later, I'm waiting for a reply from the official in the athletic department to whom I directed a couple questions.

These complaints are commonplace. How many people on here spend how many thousands of dollars each year on SU's product and find it nearly impossible to reach a live person to take suggestions? It's not a matter of resources - look at that list. There's the better part of $2,000,000 in payroll up there and yet no one's seeing results.

Love what Gross has done with the non-revenue sports. However, he's created an enormously bloated organization that appears to be a make-work program for friends of the school. The department is struggling badly at some of its easiest tasks and we're not seeing results commensurate with the size of its expenditures.

most of the people listed though have little to do with the real meat of the work raising funds.

most of the people listed though have little to do with the real meat of the work raising funds.

Aren't they responsible for the plan though? , or the 'ideas' and the 'roadmap' ?

Are they actually 'directing' people and if they are to do what?

What are the stated goals and what is the plan to achieve those goals?

I believe you. I don't know who does what, but a.) there are a ton of them, b.) most people in your and my boat seem dissatisfied with the end result of their labor, and c.) fifteen years ago there were a lot fewer of them and season ticket holders and donors had an easier time of getting in touch with the decision-makers.

We're not trending in the right direction.

Among the 18 salary-earners on that list, someone should have implemented a simple "pay $44 online every time you want to make a donation" in the last year-plus. That poster's story bugged the heck out of me - SU is crying poverty yet is unwilling to pursue such simple (and low-labor) fundraising methods? Inexcusable. If that's true, they have the wrong people working in that office.

if you want to target names, i would say gedney, poles and baldini. maybe palumb to an extent. people such as tix sales, premium seating, admins and the like aren't responsible for fundraising for capital projects.

Gross said there are plans in the work for an IPF. I bring up the TV revenue because theres been a lot of chatter about who will pay for it, finding the big donors, implying that we need big donors in order to fund things. Eventually, we should be able to fund an IPF with the bump in conference $ alone. Isn't my post what you were asking for in your previous posts, about having a plan, solution, etc...instead of just blurting out we need new facilties?

I'd like to know what the 'Director of Premium Seating' does though, because that needs to be fixed to.

And she probably makes a pretty nice salary to do what exactly?

Roll out the same tired (that wasn't a mispelling of tiered) pricing plan, and then count the beans when half of the seats are filled.

It's a dynamic role.

it's self explanatory and as to football, they do need to redo that whole thing. but it has nothing to do fundraising for capital projects which is what i thought we were talking about.

You are right...and that what be good looking towards the future...but it is hard make a solid plan based on the fact we really don't know how much money is coming in. So I am not discouraging you or disagreeing with you in regards to the ACC money...however we just don't know much will come in for that, so am just saying in regards to that money we just need to be patient and see what the actual amounts are/will be...
