George McDonald is absolutely terrible

You could tweet at him "You're great coach, I will always support you!" and the guy would still get defensive and blow up. His Twitter demeanor does not inspire confidence in him. At all.
beyond thin skin arrogant to a fault just listen him during interviews the guy thinks he is a god and he sucks. He might want to start by teaching his
WR to run proper routes and catch the dam ball. Let him keep his job but pull play calling from him and give it to lester

If the defense gives it to you twenty times then throw it twenty times

The md 90 yard we makes me think that the entire staff is in some really dumb bubble totally isolated from the simple logic of the bubble screen used everywhere else - if they don't have enough guys, don't wait just toss it otherwise run through the rest of your options.

I posted a picture earlier. That td was 3 against 2. We throw it 3 vs 4. Endless threads about it last week too bad they don't read

The one to Phillips was the 2nd worst one. It was a backwards pass, and the unblocked guy running at him at bullet speed blew it up as soon as it was caught.

Didn't see Phillips on offense the rest of the game. Almost as if he was blamed for being destroyed a split second after he caught the ball.

Scoreboard.

People kept saying that the only thing that mattered during our undefeated stretch last basketball season was that we were winning, essentially ignoring the obvious signs that things weren't as great as they seemed.

But now, we ignore the final score of the game and grab at the stat sheet.

Just a funny observation.

We killed ourselves today. Fact. I didn't mind the play calling minus a few. However, the few were drive killers.

We need to score touchdowns. What is our offensive identity?

I'm not as down as others, because I've seen us have these games a fair amount over the last few yearS. Maybe I'm numb to it?

No, that's not it at all. The scoreboard matters. And for all the yards we racked up, we didn't score enough points. But to complain about the offense on a day where we amassed nearly 600 yards demonstrates that many are focusing their hysterical disappointment on the wrong things. Symptoms, instead of the actual problems.

Sorry but its true. And no, we didn't score enough.

Last i knew you dont get any points for yards gained. The only thing that matters is scoring and cool kid has never been able to score points

Last I knew cool kid wasn't on the field.

Again, bitching about the offense on a day when we amassed 600 yards is pretty off-base. There are lots of things underscoring our problems. Did you watch the game, or do you need me to point them out?

Because in the game I watched, I could point to only a handful of plays that were impactful. Forget about the blocked punt or the 90 yard screen pass TD we gave up--both of which were absurd ways to shoot ourselves in the foot. Even accounting for those plays, we STILL could have won the game if we'd finished two drives that were convertible. Consider that if we'd somehow managed to score at the end of the half, where we seemingly had two TDs that both got wiped off the board, it would have been huge. Ditto the pick 6 we gave up, when we were driving and had their defense on their heels. That was a @#$! 14 point swing.

It sucks that we didn't score more points. And despite shooting ourselves in the foot repeatedly, we were RIGHT !$#% there. All we had to do was make a few plays.

So you'll forgive me for not grabbing a pitchfork and torch alongside you while you focus on the wrong things.

We need to finish drives--but the offense isn't a "problem."

This is where I had a problem with McDonald's play calling today...we were pretty successful running the ball. Early on Hunt was not throwing all that accurately. There were a number of 3rd down and less than 5 yd situations...McDonald called for pass plays and Hunt continued to overthrow intended receivers. Somehow he didn't seem to get it. Why?

I think McDonald is guilty of getting too cute. We were running the ball really well. Probably could have gone to that a bit more, especially in shorter yardage situations.

That said, I think sometimes he calls these pass plays because he knows he's got to show Hunt and the WRs that he trusts they can make a play through the air.

You may be right?

It bothered me because the O line was blocking well, both running plays and passes. Hunt had the time but kept missing those 3rd and short passes. After a couple of those McDonald should have dropped that idea.

With the protection Hunt was getting it was disappointing seeing him kill potential drives.

I'm sorry but I'm sick of the excuses. He is a great recruiter but what good is that if you can't take these great players and execute a halfway decent offense... It is honestly painful watching the offense and the play calling, I think deleone would give him a run for his money

589 yards is more than halfway decent. I question some calls but you can't say we aren't moving the ball.

I dont agree. He killed drives with his play calling. We needed to keep it very simple today. Run the ball. They had injuries inside and we were destroying them if you watched the game. Our guards and center were blowing them off the ball. 3-5 a crack was there all day. Hunt was off as anyone who was watching the game could see. His running was exceptional but his passing was beyond poor all day long he just didnt have it. So yes play calling was horrible as he kept trying to push something that wasnt working and to what end. If he had stuck to the run we would have won this game. Good OC's take what the D gives they dont try and force their agenda when it isnt working. Good OC's should also know their players to the point that it is obvious that Hunt was off. My focus is solid i just wish that cool kid would have focused a little better

He called a horrible game. Took the team out of its flow multiple times. George simply doesnt have a feel for the game. Just when a back gets hot and the Oline is feeling dominant he reverts to a play that is so out of left field that it is beyond most. If you have ever played football you would know what i mean. Good O;s get into a flow good running backs are the same way. Recievers set up DB's and learn their tendencies. QB's and WR develop a feel for each other... His play calling kills all of this. He reminds me of a business school graduate who has no real world business experiance. Say what you want but he just doesnt have it and i doubt that he ever will. Play calling is all about feel and playing to your teams strenght and playing the hot hand. In my opinion he is the number one problem with our team
We racked up a total of 589 yards offense hunt ran for a touchdown that was called back for another penalty there's seven points for ya before that a blocked punt if not for that it wouldve subtracted an easy seven from their score.the missed field goal adds 3 to ours if not for those TWO very very very costly plays the score at the end would've been 27 Maryland 30 syracuse you all fail to see how actually close we were to wining this game therefore you fail to relize a coach can coach and call plays but he cannot physically go out there and play on the field we lost this game because of poor execution and mistakes ( for the most part ) by our players not our coaches granted there is more that the coaches can do as far as discipline but the reality is that everyone screaming for these guys heads are morons and bandwagoners. Yea they do need to clean things up but I remember marrones second year quite well do you?

not really. I've never needed defense. Why does everyone stick up for a mod. Lots of people I this board know me.. I Stan behind my statements. Should I ask to be second tier because I choose to be anonymous and not a mod?!

Trust me, I've got no great love for any of the mods around here. And that goes back over a decade. But, I will not question their commitment to SU sports, their tickets, or their consistency in showing up. You running around beating your chest asking for people's tickets because you are 31 and just watched Boiler Room and Wolf of Wall Street back to back last night makes you look like a clown.

So when it comes to Jake and Millhouse, both guys who have seen more horrendous SU football games and know 8 times as much as you do about SU football and its history, you should probably have fun with your little childish post, make your silly point, and move on.

This is less about sticking up for them and more about the idiocy of your campaign.

44cuse

hope you have! I'm willing to spend more $$! To put my mouth where my heart is! I should feel bad about that I guess, but I played football in college, D3, but I beat 90% of you all... Can me if you need, but I offered because I can. Sit scared of you must. But I did something never offered on this board and only rumored possible by cto. You are at fault by not realizing that I'm not afraid to stand up for what I know. I'm 32. You're with me or against me. Put up or shut up.

Al Bundy?

George is not very good in big spots.

He just isn't.

This is now 10 of the last 12 games where they haven't scored more that 24 points in regulation.

It's Grobian.

Actually it's not, nothing comes close to Groober.

I am afraid in the heat of the moment you are jumping to conclusions. Watch the tape. You will see that receivers were open all over the field and Hunt has plenty of time to throw. The play calling was excellent. MD obviously had worked hard on screens and we threw very few and when we did there was plenty of room. We showed a spread formation to open up the middle which worked as our rushing yardage shows. We also had chunk yardage on slants posts.

We missed blocks and Custis dropped one in his gut. Broyld missed a possible TD pass and made critical penalties, especially in the second half.

This one is on Hunt primarily as well as the unforced penalties. None of which McDonald had anything to do with. The guy called a very good game. As a matter of fact, if we had executed we would have won going away.

I don't understand why people think 589 yards is great when it counted the most we failed to deliver. 4-14 on 3rd. conversions tells me we get too conservative and a lack of execution by the team. Maryland defense while it very well could be the worst in in the p5 and then some held when it counted the most.

Hunt locks onto one receiver way too much as that 4th down sack would show that Irv Phillips was open in the middle and hunt was only looking own the left sideline where trips lined up.

He had plenty of time on his sack.Irv was about 5 yards past the 1st. down marker and the illegal procedure penalty was a killer by a T.E. in the back field.

Three things killed us because we are a team that doesn't score on big plays but need long drives (and except for last week our D is not going to score or put us in a scoring position with turn overs).
1.. Dropped passes
2. Penalties
3. errant throws

Did I say three, make it four.

4. At least one poor play calling in each drive that kills the drive.

Really? Which poor play calls are you referring to because I can't find them on the tape.
