Head of NCAA officials John Adams

Read the play by play. In the first half SU had 11 fouls and Ohio St had 6.

Rakeem Christmas, our starting center, had 2 fouls with 11:22 left in the first half, James Southerland, a bench player had 2 fouls with 7:52 left having hardly played, and Dion also off the bench had 2 fouls by 7:30 left in the first half.

With 13 minutes left in the second half, Dion had 4 fouls while Rakeem got his 3rd and 4th after only 1 minute and 34 seconds had been played in the 2nd half. In the 2nd half SU had 6 more fouls called on us before Ohio State even had their first foul even called with 13 minutes 8 seconds left to play. That means with just 13 minutes left to play in the game, SU had 17 fouls called on them vs 6 for Ohio State. The foul calls were totally lopsided.

It could have been a great game if both teams could have played, that's all. Congratulations but the facts are the facts. Play by play is below:

Kyle, you seem like a good guy, but no matter what you say tonight it's a losing proposition. Enjoy your ff bid and come back when things sting less brother.

It's all good. I just want to apologize to anyone for getting into this convo. It's my fault and I should have known better regardless of my intentions. We'll never see eye to eye on this and there's no shame in that.

I said in the thread I started earlier that Syracuse is a hell of a team and I think if the two teams played 10 times, it's likely 5-5 between them. I mean that. I'll let the officials discussion simmer and hope people just understand where I'm coming from. The perspective on these games are amazingly different depending on the outcome. I get that.

Sorry, all. Just ignore me for tonight and I'll be on my way.

But you don't get it, 17-6 is totally even. Why can't you see that?

I hear you. But I actually am blaming this loss on the refs. Our team didn't know how to play because they had no idea how to do anything without getting whistled. It was insane. The fact that they were even in it with a minute left was remarkable.

I mean four guys with 4 fouls at the 12 minute mark of the 2nd half?! When does that EVER happen?!?!
I just got on the board and don't know if anyone else provided this information but this is the first thing I wanted to do.

1. Go to Ref stats

John Higgins primarily does Big 12 & Missouri Valley Conf 86 games this year
He did the folowing games
Iona vs BYU where his crew called 33 fouls
Virginia vs Florida 25 fouls
Purdue vs Kansas 34 fouls
Average fouls called 30.6

Mike Nance SEC & A 10 72 games this year
NC ST vs SD ST 30 fouls
St Lou vs MSU 35
Minn vs M Tn ST 39
Avg FPG 34.6

Tom O' Neill Big 12 & CUSA 87 games this year
Leigh vs Duke 48 fouls
Creighton vs UNC 26
Marshall vs Mem 35
Avg 36.3

Tonight this crew called 49 fouls
29 on SU 20 on OSU

OSU was 31 for 42 from the line
SU 20 for 25
That's an 11 point differential

Syracuse had 6 players with 3 or more fouls

In the lockerroom the players were bewildered about the calls made in the game.

They were called for cheap fouls early in the game and were wary for the rest of the game.

OSU had 4 players with three or more

Again, the fouls were 22-20 with one minute to go. Ohio State only had five more free throw attempts at that point. Six fouls and 12 free throw attempts were intentional when Syracuse was trying to get back in the game. It was poorly, but evenly officiated for the first 39 minutes.

We sit in a zone, pretty much negates the foul differential if you're able to understand that, which I gather you're not.

22-20

Two fouls difference lopsided to you eh? OK then.

Teams that sit in back off zones don't get called for as many fouls. I remember an intramural ref who thought like you...of course he was 19 and not that bright.

yeah, slightly confused why bees quite obviously plagiarized off of thamel...

What part of "according to media tweets" (there was another about being bombarded with questions) did you not understand? That's called attribution not plagiarism. Should I link you to a dictionary?

I really didn't get the plagiarizing accusation either...

It was a terribly officiated game all around. Bad calls on both teams. Tough to not let 10 players on the court decide the outcome of the game.

We did not shoot nearly 50 foul shots, Marsh. The difference is that Sullinger actually COMMITTED his fouls (and didn't get called for several in the 2nd half, like when he lowered the shoulder to clear out Keita on that one play early in the 2nd half).

we will never know how this game plays out since key players on both sides rode the pine for long stretches.. the worst part was the most important aspect of officiating.. getting the obvious calls right didnt happen. taking sullingers ability to use elbows and shoulders and crafts ability to grab and reach.. didnt occur... on the flip side the touch body fouls on both teams.. made every drive awkward as players looked for the whistle or tried to avoid it.. osu was given the opportunity to be over aggressive attacking the rim and challenging.. su was allowed to get by their man using this same technique.. just awful and unfair to the players

How about the ball being thrown out of bounds by Ohio State, then they claimed that Keita deflected it, then they reversed it, and then the first guy, who obviously didn't see it yet insisted on making the wrong call ? They threw the ball away a couple trips later and got it back, too. And how about when Triche was forced out of bounds, turned it over and HE got called for the foul ? That one was what got JB tee'd up.

I read that drunk and sad late last night... I thought he was accusing you of plagiarizing and I was playing off of that.

Lol... No drinking and posting for Atl after horribly officiated games.

In my many years as sports fan, I've never heard someone complain that the that the team that he or she supports won only because of the refs

That's the one where I gave up. Falling backwards, untouched, annnnnnd...whistle.

The proof that something was up was the inadvertent whistle when Triche was driving the lane. The refs were anticipating calls and it's very bad for the sport.

The thing I hate about basketball sometimes is that a ref could probably call a foul on every play if they wanted to. And last night that was obviously the plan.

Up front: I don't mind losing to OSU. They are a good team. But it is tough enough to beat a really good team like OSU when the game is officiated so badly. TERRIBLE!! I was at a rather large party last night. There was more screaming at the refs than screaming for SU. TERRIBLE!! I thought that the NCAAT was suppposed to have the cream of the ref crop ... our milk was completely sour. TERRIBLE!! It was bad enough last year that bad reffing could have cost us the game against Marquette (Scoop throw-in) ... but this was the absolute worst. TERRIBLE!!! I am so upset I could spit. Taking a great year away from our kids by bad officiating. I repeat: TERRIBLE!!!

Wow. I forgot about that call... I was high up but on that side of the court...

That seemed to be horrible horrible horrible call.

Yep, that whistle was the comic highlight of the evening.

For the life of meI don't understand the concept of anticipation calls. I'm sure refs will deny that they do it, but of course they do. And what is the point? What harm is there in waiting for the foul to actually occur?

P.S.: Making matters... never mind. Just saying the L'Ville-Fla game was very poorly officiated as well. Where are they getting these cretins?

kyle, just got off the phone with last nights refs.

theyve called you for 12 fouls in this thread and have 3 more in the hopper waiting.

Then you missed this board after KSU in the Pinstripe, Toledo last season and the WVU basketball game this year.

My biggest concern before the game was Rakeita picking up 5 or 6 fouls for just breathing on Sully. That's exactly what happened, and there's really no defense or counter to that. Keita really worked his a$$ off trying to battle in the post - and it's a shame that any contact would favor OSU 9 out of 10 times when Sully posted up. The calls started to even out in the 2nd half because the officials realized they were calling it very inconsistently.

That being said, Melo should have a scarlet letter tattooed on his forehead for letting his team down, no matter what JB says. 7'0 250 lbs of Brazilian meat would have forced the officials to call a more honest game from contact standpoint, and a lot of Sullinger's stuff would have been exposed. I'd like our chances.

Honestly, I think this is the best post I've ever seen you make.

First 27 minutes of the game, Fouls: Syracuse 18(including a technical) Ohio St 9. Free Throw Attempts: Syracuse 11 Ohio St 21. Score at that point Ohio St 46 Syracuse 36. Syracuse never got into the bonus in the first half. Over the last 13 minutes of the 1st half, Ohio St was only called for three fouls, all shooting fouls, while Syracuse was called for 8. In fact, in the first half, all but Ohio St's first foul, an offensive foul on Sullinger, were shooting fouls. Over the last 17:47 of the first half, Ohio St was not called for one offensive foul and/or non shooting foul.
