I think its time for a discussion

Always respect your posts, and yes, the injuries need to be addressed. The Yankees fired their training staff after a bunch of injuries. I get it baseball/football but the athletes of today train in alot of the same ways and being a physiologist, I get it. Training regimens don't enhance flexibility and game dynamics needed by these athletes. I have been on SE, think we could do better with fb strength and flexibility, but think there is still too much meathead approach with our players.

What I dont agree with is the covid excuse, bc there are so many other teams rolling and taking care of biz wins wise and health wise.
Thanks for the nice words.

I give them a mulligan on COVID for 2 reasons - (1) spring ball was interrupted and they have 2 new coordinators, so they couldn't install either the offense or the defense, that's terrible; and (2) the team didn't think there was enough testing to keep them safe at the beginning, and went on strike at least twice that we heard about through the media.

They raised the issue with the conference, and then a handful of guys opt out and there are no announcements, until they're just not there. That's really rough to go through and still function as a team.

I reach 79 in a month. I feel so damn fortunate to have watched Ernie Davis, John Mackey, John Brown, Dave Meghessey (wrote an expose' book?), Floyd Little & big Jim Nance, Floyd Little & Larry Czonka, art Monk, Joe Morris, Marvin Harrison, Donny McPherson, Marvin Graves, Rob Carpenter, Tim Green, Rob Konrad, Dwught Freeney, Donovan McNabb and Eric Dunghey play for us.( Sorry to have left out some) .
No matter what happens to SUFB in the future, i will always have those great memories to lean on. I really hope we can become relevant again...especially for you younger alums. We were = to Ped State, USC and ND back then...often better.

Love your angle and you are a true fan, but the problems we have are far past the covid situation. The lack of depth and the team we are rolling in with is on dino. at least, we should be getting a look at a young qb, someone recruited and getting a quick look bc of injury. The fact there is no qb depth chart regardless of other factors and injuries is a bad look. Almost every other program has a young talent as an option, really or not. We HAVE NO QB DEPTH CHART.

Mizzou beat LSU with a frosh QB.

This is not all that unique to us. While I tend to agree that we should have a better backup (Rex is an amazing teammate/player but not who you'd want ideally at the position) - most schools who lose a QB1 who was the starter the year before will lose more and take a few steps back.

And not to beat you up too bad - we have a QB depth chart. It exists.

Bad excuse, there are 100 teams out there working, progressing, moving forward without distraction. Its black or white. You play or don't. This year is happening but the coaching staff and some on this board refuse to acknowledge it.

As far as next year, moving the ball with these guys? It starts at the HC and coaching under his watch.

It’s just a bad year. We’re never going to have a squad every year. Things gotta line up right.

They lined up right in 2018. 2017 just had too many injuries and the brutal early schedule. 2019, we had a lot of good(for us) players but a couple fatal flaws at key spots. This year, we just kinda suck on offense. We’ll put it together again to be competitive over the next few years and at some point the stars will align enough to have a legit good team.

It ain’t Dino. Nobody has been able to really recruit here in 20 years. We’re talking 5 different coaches who couldn’t do it. It is what it is.

lol. So, so wrong.
I'm confounded by Rex getting the start. I would think that a guy who is vying for a chance to get a starting job at a P5 school would study the playbook and talk with the staff nonstop. You have a chance to play your way to the NFL and all that money. Isn't that why these guys are playing college ball?

That's the part that has me at a loss, frankly. To me, based on the offers kids have been getting, except for QB and WR, we seem to have been doing a noticeable bit better than Shafer, certainly, and even Marrone. It's funny that Gerg couldn't coach a lick, but he recruited some pretty good talent.

Anyway, I've been looking at our classes and I just can't understand how so many of these kids have not made the rotation. On offense, is basing the whole offense on live reads stunting playing development? On the defensive side, we've been getting good DBs and pretty good LB talent, if you give them a year or two to bulk up.

We've missed the top end guys, but we almost always miss the top end guys, except for a couple per class. What I think the problem is is the lack of player development. Why are we not 2 deep by now at every position? It's year FIVE! It's heartbreaking, as a fan. I really want this guy to succeed. He gets who we are. This could be his ride into the sunset. I really, really hope he turns it around.

I assume he’s a good player, then.

What makes you think we have a frosh QB that’s a good player right now?
There are a lot of high school Qb's out there, many very intelligent, dedicated young men. If our coaches can't find them, that's a fail. There are many on G5,FCS and D2/3 teams that I was impressed with.

I don't see the freshman getting any real chance. Don't want a QB controversy next year.

Lol are you serious? What's the controversy? This team lacks competitions at the most important positions. So everyone should stand down until TD comes back and its gift wtapped... again?

This might as well be Latin

Sic semper tyrannis, that's Latin. I meant that I don't understand why a frosh isn't ready. You got one shot, you give it all you got, the chance of a lifetime.M.

Unfortunately I completely agree with your assessment. Dino will not play the freshman. If either actually played well it would creat a qb controversy. It’s unfortunate because Gilbert recruited the two freshman so he clearly believed they fit his system.

That in and of itself, that mindset is what in part, has landed us here post Dungey. To not play guys that may develop and impress to avoid a qb controversy when the senior qb gets healthy is disturbing. Teams are built on competition and TD has been way too comfy since he stepped foot on campus .

How do you know he's comfortable? Is it his fault that Babers couldn't recruit worth a damn?

Any kid handed the qb position would get comfy, human nature. so all the bs about let's not let a young kid play to not cloud the qb, TD, is just crazy and yes, dino annointed TD and our recruiting showed it.
