If assistant coaches

If an athlete does not feel his/her "pay" (full ride, education, college experience, social aspects, friendships, travel) in college is on par with his/her value, then he/she can opt to get paid outside of college for his/her sport. It is all about supply and demand. Let the market decide your $ value. No once forces kids to choose the college route.
Once again, how can these kids go to the NFL if they aren't playing in college? It's a closed system. If they want to get paid in the NFL they HAVE to go to college. They deserve to profit when the schools are profiting off of them.

Oh this again. There are players in the NFL that didnt play in college. Im all for the athletes getting some amount of money per month( which they already do) as part of their scholarship. However it should be the same amount for all scholarship athletes regardless of gender or sport for all schools. 350-$500 per week which is a huge amount of discretionary spending money.
Last point. Most professional jobs have much more stringent requirements than the NFL which only has two basic requirements.
1: HS graduate
2: 3 years after graduating.

If a player wants to get paid to work after HS they are free to do so. Get a job, stay in shape, play for a local pro team and when you turn 20-21 go try out.
Or if you have the chance go to college for free get an education and try out after school or 3 years. Its simple.
Amateur or Pro.
No Labradoodles.
What NFL players didn't play in college? Enlighten me, please.

The courts should force the NFL to allow them to go without any college right from high school. You can't fault colleges for the NFL rules or the lack of lucrative options outside the NFL. Sports like tennis have lucrative options outside of college...and yet there are players who still go to college, their choice. And those who don't, their choice.

So now you're moving the goalposts, we're talking about football not tennis.

It's not a choice, it's a requirement if they want to play in the NFL. The courts can force the NFL to do it and there's still no NFL team that would waste a roster/practice squad spot on an 18 year old.

You understand that 3-5 years of physical growth are required to play in the NFL?

NAIA allows players likeness. Allows them to be paid for coaching camps, etc.

You can't just talk football but I did address football too. It's not the colleges fault that there are no lucrative options outside the NFL for football players.

So you are saying they ability before the 3-5 years does not equate to large salaries. They are not good enough to really get paid much. I agree. And that's only the exceptional ones who might some day make the NFL. I am fine with them being paid coaching at camps and I am sure colleges would do it if the NCAA allowed it . Players could refuse not to help if they are not paid, and schools would give in.

Lol. I see what you did there. Itd be sorta like putting an 8th grader on his varsity team. What they DO have is unusual talent, that the NCAA makes billions off of.

FWIW, I really dont think they should be paid much. I know that many kids need to send part of their COA stipend home to help. TV deals destroyed the amateur model. Billions of dollars should change things.

Ray Seals
Ronaldo Nehemiah
Antonio's Gates played only basketball

There are more than I thought and lists online

It's not the colleges' fault, that's true, but because colleges are the big business, there is no incentive to develop another option.

So pay the kids.

LOL. They are paid.

How much?
If you pay one then you have to pay them all... and I mean all.
Pay them for likenesses. Pay them when they're used in advertising material for tickets. They should be getting more than the stipend they get currently.

Once again, a scholarship is not payment, and neither is the measly COA stipend most of them send home to help their families.

there are kids playing DIV 3 that will be getting pretty high draft slots.. they have to get paid too correct? there are kids that played in the NFL last yr that came from over seas programs and Canada as well.

my kids are paying 50K a yr can someone send me some money too.

I have student loans for a couple more years and know how amazing a full scholarship would be... and the players STILL should have the opportunity to get paid.

Let them have agents. Let them make money off their likeness. The field hockey goalie should have the same opportunity if there is a market for her.

The schools don't have to pay them (even though they enjoy making money off them) but I don't see an issue with the likeness model.

Why is that so bad? Eric Dungey is struggling to make money professionally right now. What if he could have made money off his own image and likeness? His worth was as high as it will arguably ever be last year and he couldn't do a damn thing about it.

I’m I not in favor of paying players and I stated those reasons above so I will not repeat.
My concern with paying for likeness is the potential abuses by schools. I could imagine some sec schools’ booster place a team photo on the side of their building and pay each player 50k. Now multiply that by multiple busters. It would completely create an uneven playing field for even a majority of P5 programs let alone G5 programs.
Now if the ncaa could figure out a solution maybe it would work. But I have little or no faith in the ncaa.

unless you played a division I sport, you have no say... I did and didn’t pay a dime for school at Binghamton University which is an amazing school or grad school at Long Beach State and athletes deserve to be paid regardless of tuition. All of my accomplishments in my life and all of my connections came from the sport I played, not my degree. Simple as that. There’s a little more to school than tuition. You have gas, books, groceries, meal plans, A LIFE that costs money... nothing is more maddening than when people that have never been in the position of a student athlete make comments about what they should or shouldn’t get ...
That is a ridiculous take. Let's carry that to it's logical conclusion. Only someone from the military can comment on the military. didn't like that movie but since I have never been in or made a movie, I can't comment. On and on. One thing I speak from experience on...how much college costs and what it is been worth to me. I wish I could have had it paid to play a sport I love.

How many non revenue sports would die if the schools had to pay athletes? We saw how many with title 9

Not that this same discussion hasn’t taken place 13 other times, but that stuff opens a can of worms for boosters and others to use the system to buy players.

Bees. It already does. You know this. I'll say this for the 100th time. Oh no! You mean SEC Football is going to get top recruits?? Duke Kansas and Arizona basketball are going to get top basketball recruits?? Crap!

They get a full ride worth hundreds of thousands of dollars in exchange for playing. By any definition, that's a "payment". They can always refuse it and see how much they can make on the open market.

Yes it does. Now since it will be legal, multiply it by 10.

Only 5 starters on a basketball court. I think you're overstating how much this would affect the current landscape.

To be fair, maybe I am understating it.
