how do you justify bringing the head coach back when you are 6-18 over two years?
You don't. He'd be gone. Especially with an AD looking to make his mark.how do you justify bringing the head coach back when you are 6-18 over two years?

Crusty (or someone) had an interesting post earlier in the week abou how the "recruiting class blow up" is just not something that really happens to any great effectIt's really easy. Look at the big picture. Not just he Wins and Loses. Look we are Syracuse University, not Alabama. We have a lot of things going against us. We need to have some stability for a few years. If HCSS goes after the season we will have transfers and our recruiting class will get blown up. How many years does that set us back, is it really worth it?
Not being flip at all, but what good things? Recruiting is up IMO, offense is marginally better. Defense is way worse. Attendance stinks. What else?to me there is zero chance he is gone. too many good things going on out side of wins and losses
It might happen and it might not. I still like we would feel the lose of some players for it and transfer would be the worst part. These kids love the coach, they want to play for him. I'll be shocked if he is not here through is full contract.Crusty (or someone) had an interesting post earlier in the week abou how the "recruiting class blow up" is just not something that really happens to any great effect

I clearly stated you look at the BIG PICTURE. Was pointing out some very important factors, we the recruits and possible transfers. You have to look at that when making the decision. You don't know who will transfer and who won't, or that the recruiting class will blow up, You don't make a decision because you are scared of kids transfering, or not committing to your school.

I think there needs to be a change on defense. I don't see how Fred Reed survives this offseason. But I can also understand why there's such a step back. I mean, this unit lost 8 starters from last year, so of COURSE they're going to take a step back. Not being flip at all, but what good things? Recruiting is up IMO, offense is marginally better. I might agree if shafer was coyle/Syverud hire.It might happen and it might not. I still like we would feel the lose of some players for it and transfer would be the worst part. These kids love the coach, they want to play for him. I'll be shocked if he is not here through is full contract.
attendance is down because fans are fickle. we heard for years if the games were more exciting and the offense moved the ball people would come and watch. were the last 4 games not decided in the last few minutes? Not being flip at all, but what good things? It's more than a step back though. You have some older guys playing bad.I think there needs to be a change on defense. I don't see how Fred Reed survives this offseason. Yes. But I think we saw some of that corrected this week with Whigham heading to the bench. The guys who played the best out there today were all younger guys. It's more than a step back though. You have some older guys playing bad.
We used that line a lot last year too. And injuries. I guess we're good at excuses.Last years 3 win team is not this years team in a thousand ways.
They are just young and inconsistent.
I gave him the benefit of the doubt last year with the injuries but he's lost the last three games to teams we were better than.
I'll give you that, but I think the scheme and coaching has been bad on D. I still cannot figure out what our def identity/strategy is.Yes. But I think we saw some of that corrected this week with Whigham heading to the bench. The guys who played the best out there today were all younger guys.
This defense is inexcusable. But my point is, I think it's pretty obvious WHY it's taken such a horrible step back.
I respect the opinions. I tend to disagree with some of it, but respect it nonethelessattendance is down because fans are fickle. we heard for years if the games were more exciting and the offense moved the ball people would come and watch. were the last 4 games not decided in the last few minutes?
defense is not way worse, just more inconsistent, which is what happens when you go young.
offense is vastly better, we had 2 quick scoring drives last year.. 11 already this year. thats a huge uptick in how we score
if this team had come in today 5-1 would more people have been there?
Agreed. And that's why I think that if there are coaching changes, they need to be made on defense. I think the offense has shown enough improvement, and has enough young talent, that we can compete with people. The defense is what's killing us. If this defense makes a jump, we will be an extremely competitive bowl team, I think. This talented young offense with even a mediocre defense would be 4-3 or 5-2 right now, I don't think there's any question.I'll give you that, but I think the scheme and coaching has been bad on D. I still cannot figure out what our def identity/strategy is.
