We know that? I don't. If his name was Jimmy jones and he averaged 16 pts a game last year and had scored 25 against us, the board would be giddy about getting him. He has worked on his game. I know Buddy didn't work out for us. Basically a limited role player but Jimmy is bigger and a bit more athletic. Not the shooter his brother is but i think he will do well. I also don't think he will be a starter. And not many mid major programs have gone to the sweet 16 3 of the last 5 tournaments. As a matter of fact, none have unless you count the Zags. There have been 3 that have done it. The Zags, us and Mich.
He can be fine at this level as long as he can handle the ball against the Power 5, take ACC defenders off the dribble to create his own shot. He also needs to be able to rebound and play defense at this level, as well be able to play through physical contact. None of the above he's had to do in the Ivy league but at this stage I'll take Mark Few's recruiting eye over anyone on our current staff. So maybe Jimmy CAN play at this level.
The sweet 16 comments are weak though, it's not a badge of honor when we've been a bubble team just squeaking into the tournament with double digit seeds. Of course it's great that we won a few games (better than losing in the first 2 rounds as a 2 seed)...But the seasons as a whole are on a downward trend. Our last 4 tourney bids are 10 seed, 11 seed, 8 seed, 11 seed. It's mid majoresque.
From 2000 - 2014 we had 6 double digit loss seasons; 6 out of 13. Since 2014 seven. That's 7 of the last 8 seasons we've had 10, 14, 14, 14, 15, 14 and 13 losses.
We're a middling mid-level P5 team. More average than not and it's a trend. The transfers we're losing are no big deal, but will an ivy league kid be an upgrade to QG or Braswell ? We'll see but it's hard for people to wrap their heads around when we're on a downward trend and the nepotism is strong.
