Figured we'd have a thread leading up to the game but TJD getting a lot of preseason publicity.

What is Jackson's record on stopping 3 pointers?

Time was, when SU really struggled with those teams that featured a super-athletic shot blocker.

This year?

Not so much...

TJD had a lot of trouble last season against teams with a center bigger than him. He also doesn’t play with a mean streak or give max effort. You’ll almost never see him dive for a ball or chase down a block.

Cuse by 10+

Pretty hot take here.

I went to Indiana's "fan fest" last week because it was free, my two 7 year old's are playing basketball and wanted to go, and my wife (IU PhD) made me. I wore a red shirt (not IU) but my Syracuse hat just to make sure there was no mistake that I was just there as an independent observer.

Anyway, Jackson is very good; he's head and shoulders the best guy on that team and an incredible athlete. The had a timed "layup/FT/3/halfcourt shot" competition (like our fans do at halftime) and he finished in like 23 seconds, swishing every shot including the half court shot.

I came away very worried about this game; IU had a lot of shooters and big guys who look like they can rebound. One guy (the one with dreadlocks, can't remember his name) hit like 12 3's in a row in the 3-pt contest. They also have a "scoop" who looked solid; Jardine should sue him for trademark violation though.

In other news, they trotted out Bobby Knight and I don't think he'll make it through the next year; he looked incredibly feeble and a shell of his former self. Hard to believe he's only a few years older than JB. Dementia is a terrible thing.

When we got home; my kids were back in Cuse shirts for bedtime and my oldest 10 year old boy put on his Otto winter cap and said, "ahhh, this feels better."

I was pretty close to Knight at the SU/Nova College Gameday show in 2010 and remember thinking "man he looks old and frail" and that was 11 years ago.

My old Roomate went to IU and is a huge fan and we’ve been chatting a lot. TJD is the real deal. I’ve seen him play a few times and been very impressed. They lost a lot of their guards from last year but got in the transfer from Pitt who killed us, Xavier Johnson. New coach in Woodson so it remains to be seen what they’ll look like or how he’ll adjust to CBB from the NBA. I think if we can control TJD and not get killed on the boards we can win this.

This was almost 2 years ago.

Maybe the final score but not the TJD parts. The Athletic had a big article on him with quotes from his old coaches last season. He’s always had a motivation problem and has been called “too nice”. He plays soft and pouts a lot. Indiana fans called him out on it a lot last season. Everyone seems to forget now that they have a new coaching staff

But he can still choke you out! :)

Just watched1st half of their game vs E Mich, who is awful, but still-
IU has put together a very solid squad between returners and portal - they don’t have much in the way of shooters but have size and play tough defense - our game w them in the dome will be tough

I don’t wish dementia on anyone and I hope Knight can live out his life as comfortably as possible. With all that being said he is still one of the biggest D-bags ever

I understand the "I don't like Bobby Knight" sentiment. But in a world littered with some really bad people, he's nowhere near "one of the biggest D-bags ever".
