Is Red our next HC

I'm not sure you actually know the "topic at hand". What is it?

You said Pitino has better players than Boeheim. (You've offered no support for this.) That's the topic.

You said it in response to someone else's observation that Pitino sees fit to switch up his defense, an practice that Boeheim has sometimes disparaged. You have echoed that opinion, because your thoughts mirror Boeheim's quotes (except when his quotes contradict his other quotes, at which point you either deflect, disappear, or hunker down and call names).

I have no interest in delving into minutia and trying to argue the inarguable. Especially when they involve anything with a basis in unscientific nonsense like recruiting rankings.

Why is it normally the teams with the highest recruiting rankings turn into the best teams? Why was it when we had some stellar recruiting classes we had some of our best teams? May not have an exact science for the rankings but stop acting like they don't matter because they obviously do.

You have to understand that to Townie Boeheim is kind of like a God, and is above any sort of questioning or criticism from us little people.

When you view things through that prism, then OF COURSE Pitino gets better players, because how else could he POSSIBLY be able to switch defenses, or consistently beat Jim Boeheim?

Teams with better players usually win. UL usually wins vs. SU.

Therefore ...

It's just that simple.

Now, I will admit that I find it ludicrous that random guys on the Internet without and credentials or credibility can see the weaknesses in JB's strategies, his approaches and his decisions. He's been way more successful than most.

Much of the ranking is based upon who is interested in a player. It's not based on an assessment of the player, but rather the different school's assessment of that player. Four stars become four stars when UNC or Duke shows interest. Ratings also change when they sign.

It's an unscientific scam designed to play into the desperate needs of the fans for information.

And if we cant use recruiting rankings, how do we know UL gets better players? Simply by virtue of them consistently beating us?

Does Pittsburgh get better players too?

I also wasn't aware that proper credentials were a prereq for critiquing anyone. Close down the OT board.

How do you know UNC has good players?

Recruiting services or using your own eyeballs?

Pitt vs. SU is a special circumstance. Generally speaking teams with better players beat teams with less good players.

A little of both, to be honest.

LOL at "special circumstance." Never change Townie.

Eyeballs should always trump nonsense like recruiting services.

Something can be generally true. Not every instance has to conform. You would like to have the subject be the 2% occurrence because that fits your narrative.

And you would like to ignore data that lends credence to the idea that Jim Boeheim is not infallible. So there.

I wonder if Boeheim could design an offense that would beat Boeheim's 2-3 zone ...

Has Jim Boeheim ever made a mistake?
You realize our program has been outworked the last year plus on the recruiting trail?
Do you think JB handled the transition well in helping Hopkins on the recruiting trail?
Our program has a Final Four run last year to save the perception of mediocrity.
Our HC is not perfect. He is a HOFer and legend. The older you get you can't be complacent. JB can't just be a closer in recruiting he finally upped his game and involvement with Tucker.
JB just doing his job shouldn't be treated like it's a major accomplishment.

Collectively, and over time, recruiting rankings do get the relative pecking order of talent right in a broad sense. To say they are useless and meaningless is just not true.

Nice deflection.

I'll ask again. Why do the best teams usually have the highest ranked players?

"st john's cruises 84- 72 .Chris Mullin, the former St. John's legend, is in his first year as the head coach at his alma mater. Mullin's roster includes nine new players. But the Johnnies showed a remarkable ability to attack Syracuse's 2-3 zone defense. The Johnnies shredded Syracuse for 50 percent field-goal shooting, including 12 for 25 shooting from 3-point range."

"St. John's crushed Syracuse 93-60 in front of a frustrated and angry crowd at the Carrier Dome. The 33-point final margin blew away the Syracuse record for worst home loss. Seton Hall thumped Syracuse by 24 points, 85-61 on Feb. 7, 1998."

22 and 43. ok. so there are 43 teams out there who can say he's a crappy coach. syracuse does not get that privilege. figure out a way to beat the dude and then start your complaining. til then SU is his BEE RHYMES WITH ITCH.

He's a crappy coach. So there. Anyone gets to say it. Stop telling people what they can and cannot say.

This is absurd logic.

he kicked our teeth out both times we faced him. what is difficult to understand ? he sucks ? then we suck worse!
you want to knock somebody... pick somebody who didn't knock us out twice ! false bravado while spittin' teeth.

Then surely, since you totally don't have an agenda, that you would agree that based on head to head records Jim Boeheim is as good a coach as coach K and vastly superior to Tom Izzo.

I'm also going to throw this out there. John Wooden and Jim Boeheim are equals. Head to Head they are equals. Do you get my logic?

He may not be infallible.

But given your lack of credibilty/experience/knowledge, he is going to the right and you are going to be wrong in the great, great majority of circumstances.

"Listen to the fans and you'll be sitting with them."

Well nothing in here about not being a real fan or to go root for Colgate. So progress I guess.

Some of the worst logic ever used on this or any other forum:

"22 and 43. ok. so there are 43 teams out there who can say he's a crappy coach. syracuse does not get that privilege."

Especially when the general thread subject is new coaches and coaches who were previous players at a school for which they could be a HC coaching candidate. ("Is Red our next HC?")

Especially from part of the crew that points to their right to free speech and venting about the SU HC, the AC's, the team, the defensive and offensive schemes and the facilities.
