Jayden Bellamy transferring to UCF

Bellamy is going play at a legit factory? Not trying to belittle the kid and want him to stay but our secondary wasn’t great this year.
I sense he did not ask Deuce and/or Ja'Had Carter about their experience.

With this move, Bellamy is also signaling that he is not an NFL caliber player, and so he is trying to maximize the here and now. “Lets me get every nickel I can.” If so, good for him for having that realization. And eventually, good for us.

I just see it as short sighted. But I am just a fan.

It is also an issue / problem to lose a starting caliber corner. Period.

But with Barnes / Bellamy, I wonder if they got coached too hard by HCFB, and couldn't take the intensity or deliver to his satisfaction.

Either way, tough to see two potential starters for next year bail. Hole at corner, despite the young talent waiting in the wings.
This seems plausible. When the head coach happens to work most closely with your position group, I can imagine that has its pluses and minuses. When that coach is as intense as Fran, it might just be too much for some.

I don't think this necessarily signals that. If I have a kid who's potentially an NFL caliber player I would advise him to maximize his college earnings too, within reason (like still go somewhere that's going to properly develop you obviously).

But I also don't see how his move is short sighted, unless he's going somewhere that he won't develop as well for only a small bump in NIL.

Damn. Thought he was a fairly solid player. But if there is one position we know Fran can find a replacement, it would be at CB. So I guess its not that bid of a loss. I'm sure we will have legit options come the start of 2025. I think the DB unit will just get better and better. Lots of young pieces to work with already.

I think they made it clear that a lot of the young guys are going to play next year regardless so I'm not too worried about it. Samuel and Singleton will probably both start (Samuel at Safety) both Kerr brothers will play a ton, Delaine is still around as a vet (for now) they're high on Ibn Mcdaniels as well. A lot of bodies in the room still with a lot of talent.

Fran built a solid team in a very short span of time when he came onboard last year. There’s no way all those pieces were going to work in year two. Who knows why Bellamy left but our defense was not outstanding this year and changes needed to be made.

As far as potential Mcdaniels has the scary size and speed you need in the secondary .

I am a Fran fan, but not a Fran walks on water guy either. He’s done terrific work here.

That said, he’s widely regarded as one of the best DB coaches in CFB, correct. Bellamy is a tad undersized. He will likely spend the next season with a lesser coach. To me, he likely just reduced his own readiness for the NFL Draft.

I have to believe for most guys, that playing continuously in the same system is more comfortable and allows you to play freely and play better, which should improve your prospects getting attention from the league. Don’t know that continually transferring is in his best interest. I can’t believe the NIL money for him is going to be significant

I think our secondary needed a major overhaul as is, so here we are, portal up!
Agree. I'd have kept Bellamy but think we can do better with the rest for sure.

Ole Miss has virtually noone in the portal good thing we aren't playing them they're gonna beat Duke by 50!

Honestly I was surprised he didn't turn over the secondary last off-season. But we still won and the unit was ok. I think most of the Dino guys probably see the writing on the wall and know that there will be some newcomers to the program that are going to play a lot.

Probably already said. But I wonder if he is worried about losing time to some of the younger guys on the team.

This is a little surprising. I don’t think it’s a good thing he is leaving but this has to be an NIL issue. Playing time was his and the team has been successful must be something else. What’s the saying, follow the money.

Every team loses players in spots that they can't lose. Losing Bellamy sucks but we'll find a replacement.
Yep it's the new world and just be happy we have the alpha recruiters we do have. They will backfill one way or another. Not worried.

I don’t think Fran did the handshake here and I don’t think PT. Was an issue either the one thing Fran mentioned at his last presser was he didn’t care for the cannabis use. Just a thought ?

I agree. I didn’t want to lose Barnes but Bellamy was up and down this season and I thought even Kerr jumped him and started opposite Lewis. Both Bellamy and Gould were overrated Bosco kids.

Kerr started a few games when Bellamy was hurt late in the season.
