Jeff Nixon interviews for Texans OC

Nixon is the sole reason both of the most important ppl in his life (his children) are at cuse. That’s a big help for us, let’s see how it plays out. These are the situations that happens when you have a good staff and team, it comes with the territory! Hopefully if we have to replace him we are more sought after now by legit proven coordinators and we can replace easier. He is going to be very tough to replace though if that’s the direction he chooses.
yeah, there is no sugar coating it, if he leaves it's a HUGE loss. Nixon is the quiet guy that everybody knows is a great coach. He's the whole package and lets the results speak for themselves, highly respected in coaching circles. Not a surprise that he is sought after

Agreed.

I was just not expecting to lose him after year 1.

But success brings outside offers...
I definitely wasn't expecting it either, It definitely would stink from our perspective.

I don't think that has anything to do it.

You get the call from an NFL team for 2-3X the money... you take that sit-down - period.
it doesn't. If you think Nixon is going home at night thinking he needs a new job because he doesn't like the QB room at Syracuse well that's a special type of loser.

It's a promotion working in the NFL for a really good young head coach and QB. It's a nice gig and a job that when you go home everyone in your family says you have to at least interview for it.

HCFB talks about how he wants his coaches to move on to bigger and better things. Everything he talks about is related to bringing success to this program.

I'd bet the farm that he has considered this scenario with Nixon and with the rest of his staff. Maybe he didn't think it was a strong possibility after year one but I'd bet he has backup plans in his network.

It's never a good time to replace a great coach.
You kind of have to expect your HC to have a plan. I'm betting Fran has a plan.

So those thinking that his kids going to SU could stop him from moving on , that's unlikely. If that was the case he would not have interviewed in the first place. If he accepts, he would just move to the new market and I would wager his family would stay here the next year while finishing school, probably putting their house on the market the following spring. Nixon would have plenty of money to buy a condo until the family moved to whichever NFL market he landed in. While it would suck as a fan, wish the man well.

Yeah, well, sometimes an interview for a vastly superior position is for experience to be used later. Can't agree with your thoughts here.
Fair enough but wouldn't he still at least in his mind have to be good with leaving just in case he is offered?

Would love for him to stay but this is the double edged sword of success. Major football programs deal with this all the time.

144% THIS.

IF he gets this gig, it’s very much a feather in Fran & Cuse’s hat, that we can have great coaches like this work here and then move up the ladder.

It will make it easier for us to attract good coaching & player talent moving forward.

And if he doesn’t - yay for Cuse!
We get him back for another year.
And they can still tout to croots that he’s been in the NFL before, and will likely end up there again, so come get coached up by that caliber coach in college.

It’s a win/win either way.

And possibly getting 3-5+ players drafted will help a ton too.

Laslty - Fran knows a LOT of coaches;
just think about how quickly he assembled the current staff after he got the job.
He’s surely got guys in mind, if/when Nixon or any other coach(es) move on.

Yeah, I just took a call with a recruiter because it had been a while and you never know. I have no intention of leaving my current gig. But conversations to explore aren't bad.
