I was going to say this in the Frank thread but want to stay on topic so I’ll put it here. Everyone complaining about Jimmy Jr. do realize this is the same player that has averaged 15 ppg against us in 3 meetings, including 25 in the last meeting right? He can play and is legit.
I'm hoping you're right, but let's also not forget that there has never been an SU opponent who has done as much film study on SU hoops as young Jimmy Jr. If anyone knows the weak spots of the zone, it really should be him.

As long as he doesn’t play significant minutes at center, and as long as Benny plays what he should play, I’m very happy to have him.

Similar to the benefit he’ll have as the fourth option on offense.

Do you think he’s ahead of Joe, Swider, or Benny????
I wouldn’t be shocked if Swider and Jimmy average more minutes a game than Benny by the time ACC play comes around.

There was an almost endearing quality to the Kadary-Joe minutes debate as last season played out. I can't imagine a season where we didn't have one player criminally underutilized. Benny vs Jimmy Jr should get top billing in the preseason forum publications.

I would. I wouldn't be surprised if the number of minutes was close but I don't think you will see Benny on the bench in some sort of big way.

I think Guerrier is the possible 4th, but I don't expect him to stick. Once he goes, Boeheim will backfill that slot as well. MARTELER LE PORTAIL!
Isn't that French for "C'mon let's get this done already"?

I would -- especially if Q doesn't come back. Under that circumstances, it isn't difficult to envision Benny being one of the team's top two scorers.

With all of our other scorers/shooters on the court he is going to have to play great defense, he misses a close out or two he’ll end up sitting and the excuse will be that we need more defense.

I wouldn’t take an even money bet on it, but Id say there’s a 40% chance it happens.

I’m not saying this because I don’t think Benny is a great player because I think he can be great. I’m saying this because there are two veterans coming in and this doesn’t even include if Q comes back. Swider didn’t come here to sit and I don’t think Jimmy did either.

Swider flat out said in an interview after saying he is coming here that he understands nothing is given to him and he is up for whatever role he has here.

Dion would have been gone if he didn’t have to sit a year to transfer - scoop had nothing to
Do with that

I don't see it. Again, if we assume Q doesn't return, then the starting lineup is likely:

PG Joe
SG Buddy
SF Benny
PF Swider [although I readily acknowledge that JB is going to do what JB does, so maybe Jimmy]
C Edwards

Where do the points come from? Obviously, the offense will be structured around Buddy. Joe is a complimentary scorer, but Benny would be positioned to be one of the key players in that lineup.

I don't think we can count on Sidibe getting big minutes, so we probably need to be prepared for Swider to shift to 5 in smaller lineups [as a poor man's Lydon], or Jimmy playing there. But I don't envision that Benny would sit much so that he could play Swider / Jimmy as a forward tandem. Under this scenario, I would expect Jesse to be the one who loses minutes.

If Q returns, then all bets are off, he'd play a ton [maybe even the 35+], and other players including Benny lose PT.

Potentially. Not sure how one equals the other, but maybe.

All kids will say that publicly

Cole is here to do what Griff wanted to do but with mixed results which is be another major option on offense night in night out and put himself on the map/radar professionally. I like his chances better given the early signs, how he played at Nova ( even being out of place), playing for Jay Wright and his immediate focus on hard work and being a guy willing to do it all. On the court is where it counts but I like it on paper so far.

Really? I see an easy 17-19 from Buddy, 10- 12 Joe and Benny, 10 from Swider. I think we can also expect 8 from Jimmy and 10 combined from the 2 centers.

I think we will score just fine without Q. I definitely think some games shots won’t be falling and it’ll be tough, without a pure PG. but I think we will be a hard team to defend woth our spacing and perimeter threats

Again that’s how I’d think things would and should play out, but I also thought the way Kadary played last season he should play 30+ minutes a game.

Symir said that verbatim on Devo’s pod.

That's ~65 points -- rock fight central. I think we need more from Benny.

And I don't share your optimism about that lineup being "good enough" scoring without Q.

Yeah, I'm a little unsettled on the team.

We don't have the defenders up top to get into rock fights.

I'm also not sure if we have the playmaking needed to be a high-scoring, efficient team on offense.

If Q comes back I don't think he solves either of those problems.

I'll go that one further - OSB put up just shy of 15 & 9 as a Frosh in 38 minutes/game.
(Lydon was 10 & 6 as a Frosh in 30 mpg, Mali was 13 & 4 in 34 mpg)

No reason Benny can't be in the 13-15 range for points, and maybe 6-7 boards, in 32-36 mpg.

Joey G averaged 12/game as a Frosh.
That dropped to 10 this past season, but he'll score more efficiently (because it can't be worse, right?) and likely hit a higher % of his FT's again, so no reason he can't average 12+ again.

This is not uncharted territory.
