Kent State to hire Sean Lewis

Kent State has had 2 winning seasons in 30 years. They live at the bottom of the MAC and have to attempt to out recruit Toledo, Akron, Ohio U, Miami (OH), Youngstown State, etc. within their own state.

Good luck to him. It will be a monumental challenge. Hope he's getting paid enough to make it worth the while.

From Minks story about Amie taking the OV...

Amie, a Houston commit, was once the Orange's top target at signal caller. Around the time he camped at SU in late June, Amie was hearing from SU co-offensive coordinator/quarterbacks coach Sean Lewis 'almost every day' and head coach Dino Babers regularly.
Thanks. Hopefully won't affect any relationship with Amie.
Yeah, I was only referring to staff tagging along. I presume it would be a pay cut..

Do they promote a GA, or look out of house?

Also. Coach Lew in housed queeley. Does that mean he's the lead Florida recruiter? In regards to Charleston...

Congrats.

Excited to see who we bring in.

I should really stop getting emotionally attached to staff...

That’s what Chip said.

what games am i watching? I feel like this secondary is really bad. like historically bad for the past few years.

am i missing something technique wise? this guy seems way overmatched in that dept coaching wise. If he's some recruiting svengali, which i couched w my comments, i get that he's "placed" there but i see a guy who hasn't a clue how to teach proper tackling/positioning/etc...
you're cool so I give you a pass.

He's the Ace recruiter that we have.

I think he's more than held his own coaching. This was a back 4 that mostly played man free and cover 1 with some deep quarters thrown in to boot. None of it that good to begin with. Chris Frederick and Scoop improved significantly this year. Transitioning to a zone heavy scheme, hell playing mostly zone at this level is not easy. The tackling and safeties busting on run fakes I will give you, but it was only significant in the last few games...not on Nick IMO, defense was a full blown hot mess to close the year out...

I think Monroe was Charltons' primary recruiter.

It can happen...look at Duke.

Gotta be a situation where there is a personality issue with Babers or Lewis promises a big pay boost and an OC or DC position.

I was talking about recruits but I agree with you about the coaching staff.

Dumbest comment ever. Like ever ever.

True, as much as I get on the system at times; Monroe can flat out recruit AND coach up these kids. Look at what he has done with fredericks and scoop and he had Martin playing at a high level. Plus, i love the Mafioso look for Cuse;)

Source: Syracuse OC Sean Lewis has agreed to terms to become the next coach at Kent State. It is a 5-year deal for nearly $2.3 million.

I know it's a career move, but anyone have any idea what he was pulling in as our OC? less than 500k per for a head cosching gig seems light, even for the MAC. Do our OCs pull in 300-400k?

Can someone explain to me, a guy who never played football beyond high school, who actually calls the plays on offense? I heard a lot of people complaining about Dino's "Play Calling" during the games. If Lewis is...I mean was the offensive coordinator, was it him who calls the plays, or was it Dino who called the plays. Furthermore, if your offensive coordinator calls offensive plays, and the defensive coordinator calls the defensive plays, what the hell does Dino do during games? This is a legitimate question...not trying to be funny. It's just that I recall a lot of offensive play call complaints, and 99% of the time the blame seemed to be on Dino. Is it possible now, that Dino doesn't hire a coordinator, and just assumes play calling duty himself?

Not sure when you started watching this game we all love and adore; but head coaches usually have an expertise in one side of the ball and yes, some do make in game calls play to play especially on the offensive side. That said, head coaches are responsible for everything once the game starts and for the prep of all facets of the team all week. Its a huge responsibility thus making calls play by play can be a huge burden.

Your missing that when we had players who fit, our secondary played pretty well. Many of those same guys who didn’t fit are now moving on.

It's above average for the MAC. Not sure what our coordinator salaries are

USA TODAY Sports

Above? My source tells me Sean will be at the bottom of the MAC. Average seems to be about $500K. Of course, my source is "Coaches Hot Seat." And CHS list Dino Babers of Syracuse as the top earner among MAC coaches (at a cool $2,600,000 per annum). Think there might be a problem there?

I meant to say about average for the MAC. Typed the wrong word.

I’m not too worried about who DB chooses to fill holes (not a Chip joke...). He knows what he’s looking for and I trust his evaluation in a way I didn’t with Shafer.

We’ll either end up with a really good recruiter that can learn the system under DB or a pretty good recruiter who has a really good grasp for the offense already. Either way, I’m not worried about it. At the end of the day DB can call the plays himself. He needs assistance at practice to maximize practice time and a good teacher, more than he needs a good play caller.
