Marrone

Do you honestly think the Bills are going to find anyone better right now? He led them to their first winning season since 2004, and was a few plays away from going 11-5 this year and playoff-bound. He has no QB (albeit he had a large say in drafting Manuel), but he was able to win games with one of the worst offenses in the league. His defense was great and you can thank him for bringing in Schwartz, who was an upgrade over Pettine. If given the extension, which is all he wanted for him and his assistants, I think he would've had the bills as legit playoff contenders by next season or 2016. That organization is a joke, and there's no arguing that, and they finally had the CEO-type coach that frankly they needed.

The Jets will own the Bills when he ends up there. I hope the haters like the taste of crow.

Yes I actually do think they can find someone better. Remains to be seen if they will.

He was offered an extension and a raise. I think you're confused.

There was never a situation where Marrone was going to stay, unless he got full control, $4 million plus a raise on top of it. Pegula and company said thanks but no thanks. Don't blame either side for parting ways.

Can't wait to see what Marrone does with the Jets. You guys that think he's a savior and turned around situations that no mere mortal could have turned around are jaded - not Bills fans.

This isn't Spanish soccer. The nfl has revenue sharing and salary cap. You act like the bills should be happy to avoid relegation. Easy for you to say because you clearly don't have a rooting interest
Actually I finally agree with you. Bills fans shouldn't feel like 9 wins is the pinnacle in a salary cap league but relative to the last 15 years performance it is pretty good. The kind of ineptitude the Bills have shown, being doormats in the AFC East where even the lowly Jets have managed to make it to the AFC championship game twice takes a real commitment to losing that is rarely seen outside of the Raiders organization.

He was not offered the extension and raise that he wanted (wasn't even close). Further, they would not commit to him having any other control besides HC duties.

So a guy that went 6-10 his first year, then won 8 games and a meaningless 9th in the season finale against a bunch of backups was demanding a raise, an extension and more control of the organization?

Yeah... any reasonable CEO would be all for giving someone still unproven all of those things. Give me a break.

Side note - they lost their most important game of the year to a 3-win team. And won another primarily due to the fact that a kicker - who was released the day after the game - missed 3 FGs.

Please it's a thread titled "Marrone" and I've offered my unbiased opinion and observations on Bills fans reaction to his exit. You keep using the word "obsessing" - I do not think you know what it means, but living amongst Bills Fan as I do that is hardly a surprise.
You have "liked" every single post in this long thread that bashes the Bills and supports Marrone. That's a little strange, considering you're so "unbiased". I mean based on your posts here I'm sure you're not a self-hating Western New Yorker who looks at Bills fans with disgust.

The job he did here at rebuilding the program was flat out great. Disputing that just displays ignorance of the situation here.

He was doing a good job at Buffalo. Winning 9 games with EJ and a QB that they didn't have in any preseason camps or preseason games and won is pretty good. It looks like the Bills still have a big issue with the front office, not Brandon or Whaley, but the old guard. I suspect that beyond the extension he wanted to know what the deal was with them.

I'm just curious what grounds he had for asking for more control.

If I ever get around to buying an NFL team, I'm not buying it so that I can hand the keys over to someone else. I want to drive.

Yes I do. But if they screw it up, then oh well. My life will go on.

"He" was also a few plays away from going 6-10 again. The Bills were very fortunate to go 9-7 this season, got quite a few breaks - Lions didn't have a kicker, Orton pulls off a miraculous 4th and 22 on the final drive against the Vikings, Jordy Nelson drops an easy touchdown pass from Rodgers, Patriots with nothing to play for, etc. None of which had to do with Marrone's brilliance.

"He was able to win games with one of the worst offenses in the league" - Marrone's incompetence with regard to developing an offensive system was a huge reason why the offense was so bad.

Well I'm glad you would have "settled" for the Bills best record since 1999. I guess Marrone has been holding the team back for 15 years then too. Do you actually watch any of the games? I'm not sure where Bills Fan gets these warped expectations- your team isn't that good and hasn't been for a very long time. That kind of suckitude takes real effort. It's like you live in an alternate reality where the Bills had talent on both sides of the ball and were making Super Bowl runs every year. Oh wait that did happen- twenty years ago! - Getting to 9 wins was a very good accomplishment for this team, but whatever. Enjoy your familiar surroundings in the bottom of the AFC East while your team starts another rebuild.
So unbiased...

Wow that's really deep. Liking posts supporting Marrone as a good coach = I'm a self hating Western New Yorker? You've nailed me exactly what an insight! I don't hate anybody- least of all myself- but I do think Marrone is a good coach though and the Bills made a mistake in letting him go. Considering their longstanding futility, if I were a fan of that team, I'd take a 9 win season 6 the prior year as progress and look forward to the next season. Instead, that clown organization runs the only decent coach they've had since Levy retired out of town and their qb decides he'd rather quit the game than play for the Bills. That dude should be happy he's even in the league collecting a paycheck. The abuse of Bills fans continues for another rebuild. I mean how much can they take? And for what? The mythical unknown "better" coach that they think they can attract to Buffalo. Right- no qb, no 1st rounder to draft one and chaos in the front office. Whatever, makes no difference to my team.

So unbiased...
How am I wrong? Have the Bills not been the bottom feeders of the NFL since 1999? You really are living back in the Kelly era if you can't admit that. It's not a personal attack, your team has been historically bad, for an historically long period of time in the salary cap era, so what? The fact that you think that's biased against your team speaks to a deep rooted persecution complex that I have found many Bills fans suffer from. My Giants have stunk the last few years, I can admit it. It's not a personal indictment, I don't work for the team. Same for Syracuse football until Marrone showed up. Just admit your team stinks and move on. You guys take everything so personally-

Jason Cole ‏@JasonPhilCole
For all fans of Doug Marrone, he picked EJ Manuel. He's trying to pawn that off, but he picked him & got rid of people who criticized Manuel

You're relying on some unsourced BS from a guy from Bleacher Report for a shot. Good job there with the MDS.

He picked Manuel? That's probably news to Buddy Nix, Doug Whaley, and the Bills scouting department. Did he participate, sure he did. Did he make the pick, no.

And who exactly did he get rid of?

It's pretty clear that he didn't run the draft based on the fact that he was asking for control of the 53 man roster, let alone the draft.

Sorry if this was posted already but I read an article about Marrone in the Rochester paper(ok online paper). It mentioned that the way he was treated and his family was treated by Bills fans was a factor in him opting out. Sound familiar? I am not mocking him wanting to protect his family but can someone explain to me how, if the article was accurate, Marrone would think going from SU to the NFL would protect his family more? And how potentially going to New York or Chicago would??!!

Doug might not be a Great Coach but he is a shrewd financial Guy...

Sure he did. So if EJ turns out it was still his pick , or does the narrative change.

I'm not Jason Cole. Why would he care enough to lie about it? He's a writer in Philadelphia.

Yes, the Bills have sucked since 2000. What is your point?

I'm not "relying" on anything. I'm simply linking an unbiased observer's viewpoint based on the source he has. No idea if it's true or not.
