From his daughters Instagram. Get well Jim!

Got some information recently about the dire situation they're facing. So depressing.

I was born in Buffalo, and still live here. Growing up, my "sports life" revolved around the Bills, Sabres & SU. With Wilson's passing, and recent news of the re-occurrence of Kelly's cancer, this is really a rough time for Bills fans.

Kelly is as tough as they come, so I'm praying that he beats cancer. I saw a picture of Kelly, Thurman, Andre Reed and Bruce Smith last week, and frankly, it worried me. I also saw a different picture of Kelly's daughter and Kelly, watching the SU game, of all things. The picture was just heartbreaking.

Man, that family has been through a lot. :(

Friday night up in Buffalo for the SU game, we ended up having dinner with a friend of Jim Kelly's who had seen him earlier that day. He showed us pictures of Andre Reed, Thurman Thomas, other former teammates, family, church friends etc visiting him. He works for one of Jim Kelly's brothers. Very sad and according to him he's in tremendous pain. He had multiple nerve blocks in short time periods that don't eliminate the pain at all anymore. The cancer is following a nerve that goes through his jaw but has moved under the ear and into the back of his skull. The pace of the advance is frightening. This guy said he hopes that the surgery held yesterday at the very least, eases the pain.

He said that Jim Kelly has gone through a huge metamorphosis since his son's death and is not the same guy he used to be.(?) He's become a born again Christian and despite the pain, he will always continue fighting but is at peace with whatever happens. He said his wife Jill has been remarkable. I was surprised how open this man was Friday night telling us about it, showing cellphone pics etc but soon afterwards it seems from media coverage etc the family as a whole is very open about his condition and his battle. Best wishes to him and his family and cancer certainly does suck.

Bad news as his wife is saying that surgery scheduled for tomorrow has been cancelled because "“The cancer is in areas that surgery cannot successfully eradicate."

This is just awful stuff. :(

Regardless of what happens next I will always think of Jim standing tall in the pocket as a great field general. That is one of his great legacies.

That's horrible news.

I hate seeing this too. He is one of my favorite QB's and I am a Patriots fan. Jim is hardnosed. I always admired him for that. Im hoping for the best.

Praying for Jim and has family of course. This is a horrific disease that unfortunately too many people have direct experience with from either family or close friends who have had to see this fight firsthand. I've posted a lot lately about my friend who recently lost his almost three year old son to cancer. The pain that this family is experiencing is one I can't even begin to imagine. Because of this, I am having my head shaved in this weekend's St Baldrick's event at Kitty Hoynes. My wife and I were discussing what I was going to wear (silly I know), but just thought of what I'd like to do and that is potentially wear a Jim Kelly Bills jersey to also show support for Jim and his family in their ordeal. I had one at some point in the 80's, but no idea whatever happened to it (probably lost in one of my many moves). So, I was wondering if any locals might have one that I could borrow for this Sunday, March 30th. I can work with you to pick it up and get it back to you soon after the event. It was just a thought, but let me know. Thanks!

Jim Kelly begins chemotherapy treatment today for a second -- more serious -- fight against oral cancer. The former Buffalo Bills quarterback is shown here in the hospital with daughter, Jill, who took the photo.
