Moyer Redshirt?

That's a possibility pretty much until he plays in a real game, and even then if he only plays in a few and is injured he could sit.

Would like to see it. Some are excited by the prospect of playing 10 guys, but I expect it to be a functional 8 man rotation in conference play.

I don't think it is about PLAYING 10 guys so much as ONLY having 10 guys. Tough to redshirt under those conditions. Might be a different story if we had 11 or 12 or 13 players on the roster.

exactly! If he redshirts we still have 5vs5 scholly players.

Why make the decision before you have to make the decision? Wait as long as possible.

We are still almost two weeks until the opener, plenty of time to heal, and make a decision.

In this day & age the redshirt has become an anachronism for better players. If Moyer fulfills expectations he is probably only a two to three year player anyways. If he is healthy I would not want him to shirt regardless because this may be our best team for the next several years & if he can help in even a few games I will want that help.

According to Rothstein, Moyer is still a redshirt candidate. Has anyone heard any more about this?

It's just Rothstein, so requires a little touch up. Let me go ahead and clean her up a tad:
"Syracuse still hasn't decided if it will let Matthew Moyer participate in the slam dunk contest at next year's Orange Madness. Word is, he will be Boeheim'd ala Taurean Thompson, this year's unfortunate victim."

I think you have to make the decision out of the gate, if he doesn't play in the early season games in order to retain the flexibility you'll get into the part of the schedule where JB isn't going to give the 10th man developmental minutes and then if there is an injury and you need him he won't have enough minutes under his belt to be useable.

Now if its a question as to whether he'll be healthy enough to play, then I guess its a different story.

I think a redshirt year would help him and is a good idea but if he plays I don't think it's the end of the world. Once we get to conference play I can't see him getting a little of run.

His conditioning is going to remain behind the other guys for another 2-3 weeks. After tonight, and how well Thompson played, I would save the year for the young man. He's going to be good, but this isn't a year that he's going to see very much time on the court. I could see them waiting another 2 or 3 weeks to see what kind of improvements he makes, but we are LOADED.

He had an injury. I think under those circumstances you can play up to either 7 or 9 games.

He could be eligible for a medical redshirt after participating in as many as 30% of the teams games, none after the halfway point if he was injured at that point. I don't think it works if you had an injury play 1/3 of the games then decide to redshirt based on the original injury.

He needs to spend some serious time in the weight room. He doesn't look the part at this point.

If he reinjures himself during the 1st 30% of the season (and it can be documented) he's eligible to take the year as a redshirt.

If he's healthy and just drops out of the rotation, he's not eligible.

If Moyer wants to be a , that's none of my business.
Ha! True enough, except there are people who think it's our government's business. I just got back from North Carolina yesterday and people are hopping mad at the Governor's "bathroom bill" NOT because of the ethics but because it took away ACC championships from the state. That was a bridge too far!! I think he will not be re-elected.

(Sorry, I suppose this should be on the OT board.)

I am not a betting man but I would wager that he will be red-shirted this season. With the depth we have I just can't envision him getting any sort of meaningful minutes once we start ACC play.

If we're serious about pressing, he becomes more valuable.
