ND Postgame Discussion

Pick six, 2nd and 1, Shrader playing hurt, drops.

Before the tipped INT, we were right there.

Can’t believe they punted down 14 with 8 minutes left. Not great for the locker room.

Shrader better be fully healthy if he’s starting next week, otherwise CDRW should.

ND may have bully balled us, but the D was good enough to still win if a few plays are different.

Also, good to see Szmyt mail that long FG.

Got to get Pitt.

We have two playmakers on offense and a defensive front that is just not strong enough to hold up through a long season.Just can’t see us beating anyone else this season besides BC.
Maybe we could pull off the Florida State game but I would consider that an upset if it happened.

Travis threw for 396 yards today. We are not going to be playing them at the right time.

Will be interesting to see how Pitt does tonight. Playing UNC seems like the best way imaginable to get your offense in gear.

How the hell did Marshall and Stanford beat them at home no less.
I’m guessing they didn’t throw a pick 6 on the first play of the game and get a punt blocked for a TD.

ND was able to chew up yardage on the ground between the 20s. They didn’t score many TDs on straight up long drives though. They petered out often and their kicker looked bad.

I could see a different game where they move the ball on the ground but don’t finish drives, where we could’ve won if we had a healthy Shrader or played Wilson from the beginning, and our special teams showed up.

Got pretty much dominated. Knew it was possible but didn't see it coming. Margin for error on both sides of the ball is so small.

Hoping we hold it together, adjust vs. the run and get to 8 wins. Need to regroup.

We got dominated for a half. Total yards were 368-282 and that’s with us playing with a hand tied behind our back in the first half.

Also, they have a big line who were focused on literally pushing the pile forward against us at every opportunity.
Personally my own personal opinion is I'm shocked that they would try this as a strategy.

Agree 100%

For me the game is over. I think we win out from here depending on our injury situation.

What is the news on Garret, is Dino disclosing what his injury is?

Pitt is an up and down team and abikanda is more of a speed back. I could see us losing 1-2 more and keeping it there barring more injury.

The offense absolutely blew the last two games.

Not only should CDRW start at Pitt, but all receivers not named OG should be put on notice. Really they should be replaced.

We’ve all be enamored with Anae, but reality is our run game’s taken a step back and our pass games a little bit better when not considering we have a bonafide NFL talent in Oronde catching balls. Everyone else is the same or regressed.

No, the sky is absolutely not falling. But sometimes adjustments are made mid season to pursue a 10 win season vs a 6 or 7.

Guys, we’re not going 6-6. Put me in QB1 against BC and we’re getting the W. Question is, we sticking with CDRW for a bit or is Garret coming back? Our offense is centered around GS right now.

Just got home and while I am disappointed this team was simply overmatched along the DL. Despite this issue we would have a had a legit shot to beat the Irish if we did not gift them 14 points on offense and special teams.

Sadly if we dont give our defense some more help it’s entirely possible we go 6-6. IT IS UNLIKELY. But no games a guarantee on the remaining schedule.

So are we having open tryouts for new receivers? Pretty sure there's a line of people with a better track record than Anae looking for a job here also.

No, but I’ll forgive Hatcher for his drop vs Cooper’s multiple. Pena’s displayed versatility vs Jackson. Queeley, had his shot so lets see Adams and Alford fight for a spot.

At this point some of our wide receiver play is so bad that I see little downside to just openly giving other scholarship players shot. Its not like any of the names mentioned, besides Queeley, block either,

I hope you never criticize anyone else’s performance at a job anywhere. These coaches aren’t infalliable gods. What’s wrong with saying that our WR’s have been bad minus OG?

So what’s your take on the game

There was a thread earlier in the week “The game was decided by 1 thing”. See posts #9 and #20.

My take on the game…

1 - We are inconsistent too. Mainly on offense.
2 - Their run game was a bad match up for our defensive front. As expected.
3 - The ND defense is very good.
4 - How many times have people posted here about GS being in a boot after games? I believe he’s been hurting for a few weeks. Unfortunately it’s not getting better and it has affected his ability to run the offense, an offense that relies heavily on his threat to run.
4 - Turnovers matter.
5 - Special teams play matters. A blocked punt is a turnover. (looked like a missed block in the A gap, not communicated to the back side protection).
6 - Dropped passes… oh my.

I hate the downfield scrums. A couple of defender stop the ball carrier only to have a couple of offensive linemen Jon in a push the pile another five yards. I cringe every time I see it hope no one gets hurt in on of those scrums. I also hate to see our guys standing around watching these scrums.

+ Nice FG by Szmyt.
+ Darton plays big and has a huge heart.
+ Replacing GS with CDRW was a good move.
+ CDRW did some nice things; strong arm, good mobility. Watching him run reminded me of how the offense looked when Shrader was running (healthy).
+ Seeing other WRs get involved in the game is promising.
+ #70 Cruz did well at RT after Ellis went out and DD was moved to LG.
+ We only had 3 penalties. Way below our season average.

My heart breaks for GW.

Pena gets a lot of run. Like Hatcher, like Alford making big plays, wish he made more regular ones.
