New Safeties/Rovers Coach: Darrell Perkins

hmmmm...on one hand got give props to the UConn coaches getting that team to 6-6 and a bowl game, on the other hand, the first half of the season their secondary got burnt often, including by us, and, on the other hand, UConn.

Looks like a solid hire, Northeast and DMV ties. The new look staff looks pretty damn solid to me
And a Rocky Long connection.

A 1990 graduate of Wyoming with a degree in business marketing, he was a three-year letterwinner at running back for the Cowboys. His teams reached the Holiday Bowl in both 1987 and 1988 as a player. Current 'Cuse Defensive Coordinator Rocky Long coached Perkins during his freshman season at Wyoming in 1985.

He didn't come directly from UCONN; he wasn't with UCONN last year. He came directly from UMASS.

Thanks for the correction. Thought he was at UConn.

He's had two stints at UCONN in the past. The one I remember was 2010-2013. The SI article above has his history (the link by Franz69).

Agree. He looks like a typical Dino hire. Good coach who will do a fine job developing players. He has to be a hell of a coach if he got UMass ranked in a positive way in any top 10 area.

But like many of the other recent hires, he has ties to important recruiting regions for Syracuse.

We needed to add coaches with connections in Florida, DMV and NJ. Dino just completed the hat trick needed to help address our recruiting issues. Good hire.

Welcome Coach Perkins!

Regionally all the hires made sense with the exception of Farmer but it’s more important to get the more seasoned coach at that position.

I don't think you can logically conclude that we upgraded OC and DC. At best it is an either/or. I am happy with both hires and think they will turn out great; just can't make the conclusion "on paper."

I agree. I get the panic. I did too but I knew it was an opportunity to improve the staff.
Exactly, I hate the change but I wasn’t concerned
. My only concern was to ensure Dino was upgrading around our recruiting ability. I’m pretty sure he knows the deficiencies

Seems a wee bit early to conclude any upgrade in coaching staff. Especially since we lost some loyal and long-term coaches, for who knows what in terms of how long these new additions might stay. As in, are they buying houses, or are they going to live in hotel rooms?
