NIKE is now a target

The best way to make sure it doesn’t happen is to unilaterally terminate the agreement with Nike. It’s going to happen anyway, so we might as well get out in front of it.

That would do wonders for our uniforms, we could return to blue and orange as our school colors!!

"Following the news of Person’s arrest, Auburn announced Wednesday it would give full refunds to fan’s that had purchased men’s basketball season tickets should those fans no longer want to attend Tiger basketball games.

Ironically, this summer at the 2017 NACDA conference in Orlando, AD Jay Jacobs spoke on a panel with former Big 12 commissioner, Dan Beebe and crisis expert Carrie Cecil on Mitigating Risk and Protecting Brand Wealth in College Athletics. When asked what he believed his biggest risk to be was Jacobs stated, hiring. He went on to say, that ADs do their very best to hire men and women with excellent character, however, they never truly know. None of us do.

It would be a cruel twist if Jacobs, who has spent his entire career at Auburn loses his tenure based on the behaviors of two assistant coaches, Corey Meyers and Chuck Person who were so removed from him."

The AD hired Bruce Pearl. He gets what he gets.

I’m serious though. The inevitable outcome of this scandal will be a call by Congress to outlaw these multimillion dollar deals with the shoe companies. Frankly, I won’t disagree. I think Nike has way too much control over our programs now.

The government doesn’t need to create more laws and stick its nose into the private industry. Enforce the laws we have and the NCAA should adopt an Olympic model.

I've heard Hamilton College is the SEC of D3 schools.
I've heard that, too, but they're getting terrible ROI for their money - tied with Colby for #169 in the D3 Directors Cup and dead last for NESCAC schools. I guess the "no show" jobs includes game day. ;)

Look, I even know D3 players who got free money for no show jobs.

Understood. That doesn't make it commonplace, though. I've known my share of D3 football players, two of which were pretty big name guys, and they all professed to me how poor they were. I'm talking friends, not just football players I happened to bump into. Anecdotes are anecdotes.

Last night as I'm catching up on theses threads, my wife comes into my office. I bring her up to speed with what's going on. My wife's family are HUGE Duke fans. Her dad, mom, sister, brother and cousins went there. My wife did not but was still raised to be a big time Duke fan which she is.

After bringing her up to speed, she says "it kind of makes you proud of your program that they didn't get involved like some of the other schools". She then followed that up by saying "Duke and Syracuse have both lost recruits right at the end, surely neither is guilty and coaches like Boeheim and K wouldn't engage in that stuff".

The fact that she was lumping Duke together with 'Cuse was nauseating. I explained that Duke is never hurting for talent. For every 5 star talent we get, they get likely 10 at that level. At any rate, the two programs are not in the same place, I tried to explain. She didn't really understand so I decided to abort the conversation. She still thinks I like Duke... lol, silly wifee.

The last thing Boeheim is is a pragmatist. He is certified ultra-rigid by his strict German Lutheran heritage from his stoic Dad. There is no way that he paid to get players. That is not who he is. Folks, no need to worry. It is the pragmatists that engaged in pay to play. Many of you criticize his rigidity but over the long-run we could have never done better with anyone else than stubborn old JB. Today is the final proof.

That response suggests that you have no idea what I wrote.

First, interesting quote from Jacobs.

Second, on its face the refund is a generous move by Auburn. Can't say I've heard of something similar before. Cynically, this probably means that they gross very little money from hoops season ticket sales? Their numbers are probably low and a lot of the better packages are tied in to football (which no one wants a refund for), I'm guessing.

You didn't add, "'Til Duke do us part" to your wedding vows?

That coincides with my anecdotal knowledge, rooming, after graduation, with a D-1 starting guard. There was no funny stuff.

fact of the matter is, we don't know. only they know. going back to Lutheran heritage is a bit much. In Lutheran heritage is it encouraged to allow students to allow others to write their papers for them?
His heritage is important in understanding who he is. He is ethical and has strength of character. There is no comparison between staff providing too much academic assistance and bribery ie exchange of cash.

He is, and that's not a criticism. You appear to have interpreted it as such.
I doubt that anyone else thinks of JB as a pragmatist. He is the opposite of a pragmatist. He is known for his rigidity. Have you read any of the books about his heritage and thoughts? You might have meant pragmatism as a compliment. In this context his lack of pragmatism is a benefit to us. The pragmatist position would be that everyone else does it and they do not get caught; so why not participate? I've followed Cuse basketball for nearly half a century. We are not involved in this scandal.
