OC Rumors

I’m not sure on that.

Might not actually be a bad idea…

I know the fan base is sick of Dino and honestly, I am ready for a change too

No real information on it, but I get the impression from the press conference and other moves by JW that aside from a massive collapse, Dino will be here beyond 2022.

I know the negative recruiting is definitely happening, but like I said, not sure it has merit due to JW not being ready to make a move away from DB

Like I said, just my opinion so it could be bowl game or bust but I wouldn’t be so surprised if next season if we end with anything more than say 4 wins and we still keep DB
I agree with this.
His buy out won’t drop completely off table so SU will still be hesitant to fire him unless things are a trainwreck. As long as the program feels like it’s moving in the right direction by end of next season Dino wont go anywhere. I predict he’ll be here through the end of his deal.

So his broke ribs held him back against UofL and NC State but were fine for the Pitt game? Sounds like you cherry picked games to prove that somehow we aren’t a very bad passing team. Which we are.
Just stop. Schrader is not as terrible as you’re making him out to be. Is he Dungey re-incarnate? Probably not, but he is serviceable. He almost certainly got hurt at Va Tech and was impacted the next two games and was more healed for Pitt.

This sky is not falling and the program is in free fall is becoming a tired trope that everyone needs to move on from. I wanted Dino gone, too. But I will watch every game next year just like you will. People need to just chill and stop decrying the reality they find themselves in. Life is too short for that.

Everything’s great? Undying faith in a coach with 5 losing seasons out of 6. It’s also weird to think people have no right to question said coach.
No one is saying “everything is great.” Everyone understands there are problems and everyone is unsatisfied. People not to stop reverting to extremes to describe the situation.

Thanks for the talking to dad.

I never said the sky was falling. The poster tried to whip up a strawman argument that our passing game wasn’t bad using cherry picked games and incorrect stats. I called him out in his fluff data to support his incorrect argument.

What’s extreme about saying a program has 5 losing seasons out of 6. Recruiting class this year has the potential to be the worse class brought in in years, depth is a serious issue at multiple positions and has been for most of the last 6 years. What happens next year if we miss a bowl again and the schedule will be more difficult? Recruiting sinks further and depth takes a larger hit. I think people not thinking we’re at a serious crossroads are fooling themselves. This has the potential to put SU in a long term hole after DB leaves. Fan support is already at or close toGrob level. There are so many potential consequences of retaining a coach who’s had 1 winning season. Nothing I said is inaccurate and it is extreme.

This is spot on, while I get people want to blame ADJW, if you think the decision was his and his alone you are crazy. This was about money, nothing more and nothing less. The school doesn’t want to pony up the cash to buy him out. I think it’s short term thinking based on many of the comments already posted here but there isn’t a lot you can do about it now. I personally think we are in for a lot of pain next year and then he will get canned. Similar to Virginia Tech, we will look at this next year and wonder while we didn’t make a coaching change the previous year. Sad really, I’ve become completely apathetic to SU football. Part of it is the state of the program but mostly it’s the state of college football in general.

That don't feel the same way at PITT and Wake, I don't think.

I guarantee it wasnt about money after the university got reimbursed for over 4 million in covid expenses, It could of been seeing the high profile jobs open and not liking there chances of getting someone they felt was better

The PITT game would be 5 weeks since the injury

Its all about the money. 5 losing years.
1-10
5-7 completely crushed the last 3 games. Its all about the $

The recruiting angle is really important.

It's hard for a program to recruit coming off a 1-10 season. It's easy for other programs to negative recruit a program that went 1-10. Obviously we like the guys we're bringing in, but it's another class where our success will be dependent on the class far outperforming its ranking.

A great way to get recruiting momentum back would have been to have a winning season. Would have erased a lot of questions. We failed to do that. That means the 2023 class is fighting all the stigma still from the 1-10 season.

There will be long term roster impacts of all of this. And that will make winning games challenging.

At a certain point we have to break the cycle. The chips are in right now on Dino being able to find a way to do that.

There's reason to be skeptical.

I love how the 1-10 season doesn’t count towards removing the HC but the improvement from 1-10 to 5-7 is used as justification for progress.
It’s either it didn’t count then we have gone 5-7, 5-7 OR 1-10 to 5-7 no bowl seasons in 3 consecutive seasons and we are keeping the HC.

Wildhack asks you OiG send the money. It can salvage this year’s recruiting class.

Yeah, to me, I'm ok throwing out 1-10 in evaluating Dino, but that means in simplest terms we went from 5-7 in 2019 to 5-7 in 2021 and you really have to squint to say we're any better.

This is where I ultimately started to have questions. We have the amazing season and we know how we followed it up the two years after that. But even during/after that 10 win season, recruiting didn’t seem to be positively impacted.

I’m bummed out at how the season went but optimistic about the future.

I’m sorry that is offensive, lol.

Well, we’re going to improve next year. That’s why we’re keeping him. Because all teams improve the next year……

Now you’re just gaslighting. Nobody said it was offensive. Don’t be ridiculous. People getting mad at posters or acting like they shouldn’t have any questions about what’s going on with the program is insane.

What if i told you that there is one coach out there, with intimate knowledge of Dino's veer and shoot system, who has had success as an OC, including using a relatively weak armed, dual threat QB, to lead a team with realtively limited resources and recruiting success, to a top 15 ranking and bowl victory? Would that interest you? also, I am certain this coach wouldnt say "no" to the opportunity.

the difference between 2019 and 2021 is a mixed bag, we are definitely better in defense and OL/running but have taken a step back in special teams and passing the ball. Game management and recruiting is similar by Dino/staff .

I got ONE game wrong. The point was to show there were acceptable passing games in there too, despite the challenges. No one “called me out.” They pointed out an error.

I think recruiting is going to be an uphill climb until we can somehow become pitt where we make a bowl game every year

In my rant yesterday regarding things not to look forward to in the 2022 Syracuse University Football Program I forgot to mention undisciplined Stupid Penalties on a regular basis. Sorry to be off topic and so negative but I just don’t feel like there is anything to look forward to. It’s like a Ground Hog Day Program right now. Someone please fix it. Please!!

There are things that got better from 2019 to 2021. Wildhack deemed those things worth more than you do. I think the case can be made for and against firing Dino this year, credibly.

The thing about recruiting is that schools that we lose to, have robust booster situations. That’s it. You can’t say he’s wrong.
