ORANGE UNITED NIL

Didn't realize I had set up Orange United to automatically renew until I saw it on my credit card. Didn't really need that right now after paying a $1250 hospital bill, but I can live with it much easier after seeing how Fran and Co used it.

Is there a way to update your payment amount on the Orange United website without emailing them? Seems like something one should be able to do fairly easily but it's not letting me.

It is not, shall we say, the most functional website.

A few weeks ago, I wanted to make a one-time donation in addition to my monthly contribution.

Every time I pressed Donate (or whatever the button said), I got a pop-up telling me to "Select a package and provide the required information", which I had already done. I tried 3 separate browsers. Same result.

I had to email them and have them process the payment on their end. Their response? "Thank you for bringing this to our attention. It looks like it might be a technical error on our site..." No schist.

If they're going to be an on-going collective, they are going to have to upgrade that 90's website.

All that being said, I took a look. If you want to change your "membership", you need to email them at membership@studentathletenil.com.

Thanks. That was very similar to my experience this afternoon. I wanted to make sure it wasn't user error as I get rather annoyed when I have to deal with customer service to handle an issue that should be easy to do as self-service.

When I emailed them, someone got back to me in 24 hours. Not the fastest, but serviceable.

Have you tried turning your computer off then turning it back on again? That’s the extent of my technical expertise.

You should check. I am of the understanding that there is one collective that Adrian and Basketball supports and one collective that Fran and the football program supports.

I have been in regular contact with Mark Hayes throughout the summer and we have talked frequently following John Wildhack's announcement in April that the NIL channels for Syracuse would be streamlined by July 1. Mark has shared that talks have been ongoing and has always termed them as positive. We last spoke on August 2nd and there were a couple of issues left to hammer out.

Since then there has been no final resolution and with the ever changing landscape involving government, the NCAA, business and the clearinghouse activities I have no level of confidence how this will turn out.

Several of you who have contributed to the SyraCRUZ Tailgate NIL Initiative (rebranded back to the Fine Mess Tailgate) have reached out asking for advice regarding contributions to OUC and monthly subscriptions. In full transparency I cannot provide any definitive information. Each donor must make a personal decision on whether to cancel, pause or continue contributions at this point. Thank you for your support of our program over the last three years and I truly wish I could provide more specific guidance.

It is disappointing that this close to the start of the 2025-26 year nothing more solid has come from the SUAD. SU Football NIL continues to operate and support the football program. There are apparently a number of major donors supporting men's basketball. While we are a very small piece of the overall picture we have completed deals in the amount of $68k with 42 student athletes across eight sports. All have been very appreciative but the men's and women's soccer, men's and women's lacrosse, volleyball and women's basketball representatives have been especially thankful. I can share that one non-scholarship student athlete used his appearance fee at a tailgate to buy books for the semester. Another paid for a hotel room so her family could come to Syracuse and watch her play. Until there is a full resolution I don't know if there will be any fan based, grass roots support efforts to continue programs in that vein.

no mention of Orange United being an option to donate to NIL in that interview. Orange United is still taking my money every month. I guess I should be cancelling my membership?

I thought he would at least give us an update with Orange United.

Disappointed that Steve didn’t press him on that. I can share that Mark Hayes is meeting with Kevin Morgan next week and that there has not yet been any talk of termination.

I did appreciate the call out I got and John calling me a great guy though! 😉

I can confirm this as well regarding Orange United :) And you are a great guy!! My sense is that Orange United isn't going away. Candidly, I think OU should just merge with SU Football NIL, but not sure if that's realistic or not. John has to get on top of this. Fans are confused. Shouldn't have multiple commercial collectives.

I'm very confused. Is my monthly donation to OU going to NIL, or isn't it? And if it's not, where IS it going?

Agree it would be great to fold into the university. Get the money into the school directly.

Well, I don't work for Orange United, so I can't say for sure. But yes, your donation to Orange United should be going toward NIL for SU players. Orange United is still in business :)

Not sure if these third-party NIL collectives can get folded into the university. SU Athletics has said to me more than once that these collectives aren't part of SU, they're private entities, and their NIL deals are regulated by the College Sports Commission. Perhaps that could change in the future, but not sure.

Issue is the schoolis capped at $20.5MM (minus up to $2.5MM in cost of additional scholarships) for revenue sharing. NIL payments have no cap assuming they clear CSC review. Folding collectives under the University with today's rules make all payments subject to that cap. In today;s world $20.5MM sadly doesn't cover the athlete compensation requirements for a competitive athletic program so autonomous revenue sources are necessary to bridge the gap.
