Pay that man his money.

The real crux is the staff compensation. When a local guy goes to a Big 10 peer for 3x the salary, and, you look across the sideline in conference games to see 2.5 x's the # of staff, that's a problem. My understanding is that's more important than anything.

Local guy with no previous ties to Babers.

I know this point has been made repeatedly, but the importance of the Dome re: Dino really can't be overstated. No other P5 program can offer him a home field that is tailor made for his system. Other schools can offer more in other areas, but only we can offer him the Dome.

--I can also confirm that water is indeed wet.

Facts, suggestions and things that may happen Re: Dino Babers

Dino Babers received $408,000 salary in 2015 at Bowling Green and $100,000 perf. Bonus

On Dec. 5, 2015 he became our Head Coach

Everyone or almost everyone here is talking an increase for Dino to be sure he is retained as our HC. His contract, I am assuming, is 6 years @ 2.5 mil.

Dino has been here for less than two years in a HC’s role.

He had a signature win vs. Virginia Tech in his first year and finished 4-8 overall, 2-6 ACC

This year he has a signature win vs. Clemson and stands at 4-4 after Miami, 2-1 ACC

Dino Babers is a sincere, proud, positive individual who loves N.Y., the Dome and wants to build SU into a winner again. I don’t think Dino is as concerned about his salary being increased as he is improving SU football program, filling the seats, gaining support from the Syracuse fan base and having HIS players together as a team under HIS system in his Loud House. He’s not going anywhere with so much invested in rebuilding his program on the Hill, IMO.

(Do you think they (Wildhack and Babers) talk about the needs of the football program during their weekly lunches?)

In late August Wildhack announces that a renovated locker room has been finished in the Dome

If I am Wildhack I am letting this season play out before any increase

Remaining games: Fla. St. A, Wake Forest H, Louisville A, Boston College H

If HC Babers can finish 7- 5, Wildhack should extend babers contract to 8 years with a $2 mil increase bringing his salary to $4.5 million, plus performance bonuses and other incentives

If he finishes 5-7 give him a $500,000 raise which would make his salary $3 million.

Give raises to assistant coaches

Market the hell out of the accomplishments of the football program

Get the new Loud House which is a signature sports venue in this country and one which Dino loves, it’s his house and our house, started and finished.

How important is a Dome renovation in regards to recruiting? Obviously as fans we want a more modern, spacious, comfortable place to watch games. But it’s not clear to me what a renovation tangibly does for recruiting, other than just signaling investment in the program.

I ask because people seem convinced that a renovation is a critical element to retaining Babers and I’m wondering why? If we did nothing on that front (not saying we should, just posing a hypothetical) but threw lots of money at Dino and his staff, what would yield a bigger return?

Hell, it sounds like if we did nothing but put 44K+ in the Dome again regularly that might yield a bigger return.

agreed and I personally see no correlation between the Dome reno and Dino. If it's not actually benefitting the football team why would he care.

From a football standpoint I could see a modern state of the art locker room, training/medical facilities, film room (whatever) maybe a modern coaching box and a suite to entertain recruits and I don't really see anything more than that.

If you think he's the guy long term there is NO reason to wait. And any Admin or any person/group responsible for the Head FC who can't see that he's the guy long term should change jobs.

I would think most coaches have incentive bonuses written into their contracts. But like Bees, I don't know specifically about P. It would be odd if he didn't.

Ok so Dino has escalators in his contract already? I'm trying to figure out the rush to extend him from a deal that was already beyond lengthy and may have escalators if he hits certain #s.

I feel like the Dome is fine for recruits. They play there like 6x a year. They invested in the lockerroom. Some of these other stadiums, quite frankly, are 100k dumps. The investments need to be in the IPF (which they did), travel to recruit (which i think they did) and coaching (which i understand has been done to some extent).

I go to my original point, what are we negotiating at this point for Dino to retain him? I don't ask b/c i want him gone (to the contrary) but as a Syracuse alum who feels like the school FINALLY has made the investment in football and people are still like, "we need to do MORE to keep him". I need to know what the more is.

Babers is all about "family". He brought almost all his old staff with him from his previous two stops. He has a number of his former players as GAs. Perhaps some of the more would be more money for his staff to ensure they stay too.

Do we actually know for a fact Mike Hart left because of money?

I don’t believe a bottom tier Big Ten team would pay 200k more for a RB coach.

It seems like a telephone game rumor that has become believed. He may have gotten raise but do we know he left and Dino was pissed about it?

That makes sense to me and as i've stated before, that would be, to me, smoothing the edges of the program to give the assistants a few more bucks to stick around. You can't negotiate around ambition though and my impression will be that some of these assistants will ultimately go elsewhere b/c they can get a better job, more money. That's how it works.

For actual playing football likely nothing. But some of the stuff that we want to upgrade are things that will will put more fannies in the seats (internet stuff for student sharing, etc). So it's a bankshot but it's helpful.

Coach P had a revolving door of assistant coaches toward the end of his tenure that was the proverbial canary in the coal mine of our decline.

P was (probably still is to a degree) an old school grinder that burned out a lot of young guys due to the combo of long hours and meager pay.

While Dino grinds equally as hard, I get the sense he truly values the family concept for his coaching staff. I don’t believe he throws it around as a buzzword.

Hopefully the funds can be found to keep Dino’s staff intact per his wishes (i.e. until one of them leaves the nest for their own HC opportunity).

That makes sense. I have a Verizon MiFi that I’m willing to loan out on Saturdays to help. ;)

Seriously, I’m all in favor of renovating.

My sense from reading one of the PS articles awhile back was Hart did leave for more money, but Dino wasn't exactly losing sleep over it as he wasn't the best fit. Now if Dino wanted to keep him, could we have matched? I don't think it's out of the realm of possibility.

In order of importance.
Pay Dino and his staff. At the same time put in place buyouts for not only Dino but key Staff members.
Increase staff level to maximum allowed.
Do minor improvements to the Dome. Possibly go with another soft roof, Seat backs, solid Wi-Fi, upgrade audio and video.
Upgrade player apartments.

The 'another soft roof' option is DOA. They aren't made anymore.
And with good reason - many have suffered catastrophic collapse.

Even if that was a (theoretical) possibility - it's just kicking the can down the road.
Which is something SU has done far too often in the past.

Exactly. Soft roof absolutely cannot be an option.

Thank you i didnt realize it wasn't an option. Also i like the idea of building up. That is what ND did.

I have no idea. All I was saying is that most coaches' contracts have incentives built it.

It would be very strange to have a D1 P5 head football coach contract without incentives.
