When you look at the roster and think about this year and the next few it is obvious that AJ has to get stronger in order to compete. The Wilson Kid from Seattle is the exception not the rule when it comes to starting QB's and he is 30 pounds heavier than AJ. Hunt has AJ by close to 60 pounds and half a foot. Wilson is a good 40 pounds heavier. Im not saying that he cant surprise but it is going to be a stretch for him to win the starting job unless he gets a lot stronger. With that said i do expect Wilson to get the nod next year. He will know Lesters system pat, throws a good ball and may just take the kind of leap that Ryan did as they are similiar players. Time will tell but if AJ can add the strength, Wilson continues to learn and grow and the two new kids play as well as their tapes we should be set for the next few years. This year it is 100% Hunts team.

Wilson didn't show much, and while Long had some moments overall he struggled. That said, he didn't back away from the challenge and believed he should be out there. Dungey and Womack are total unknowns.

I do not think we're strong at QB by any means, but just based on what we've seen at this level AJ is the one to bet on if you're looking for someone to become an above average QB.

He does seem to have the leadership skills but without some more muscle it will be hard for him to stand up to the rigors of a full schedule

After this year the QB position is totally up for grabs in my opinion. Wilson and Long did not show enough and Dungey/Womack are yet to be shown.

Of course. If i had to lay odds on the starting QB next fall it would be Wilson

I'd probably have to say the same.

Agreed. Wilson breaks down into a pile of mush with any pressure at all. He has a good arm - but until he fixes his decision making, I'd give the edge to AJ.

Then Womak and Dungey - wouldn't be surprised to hear great things from either in camp this summer - followed by a chance to leap frog AJ/Wilson next year.

I pick Long because he's a better quarterback.

Literally only because he's bigger. Both of them did not show what we needed to see last year, and Womack/Dungey as of right now are unproven commodities that I hope take over.

I like AJ alot and think he has a lot of promise. I thought when he played last year the play calling was especially bad and the coaches put him in a lot of unfavorable situations. If AJ gets stronger, improves decision making and if the playcalling improves I think he can be a legit starter for us and have success.

the qb situation is barely marginal, unless the new recruits step up----all we have is a lot of alleged qbs, no proven leadership, none of which are very good including hunt. i pin my hopes on the oregon kid

If Wilson is the starter next year, the Over/Under for wins will be around 3.5

We do not have a QB for 2016. Wilson isn't the answer. Long has a chance to be OK, but we aren't striving for OK. Womack, and Dungey, both look promising, but at this point they are total unknowns. If I am Shafer I am bringing in 2 more QB's this year to add to the 2016 QB battle, and pray that 1 of the 6 can be a good ACC QB. Either way it's going to be nervousness all the way up to the first game in 2016.

Anyone that thinks that Wilson showed anything other than a strong arm so far, does not know the quarterback position. He had horrible decision making along with way below par accuracy...probably the two biggest attributes a QB, at the FBS level, needs. If he is our #1 in 2016 we are in a load of trouble. That said I hope he totally proves me wrong. If not it's up to AJ, Womack, Dungey or a true frosh.

As for 2015, I think Hunt, barring injury, starts all 12 games. No one else has shown any ability to run the offense for a full game efficiently (except Long in the Wake game).

Womack or Dungey will start in 2016. book it!
Here's the thing. Both Womack and Dungey were guys we went in on late. Now, that doesn't mean they won't be good, and for Long and Wilson their recruitment started two OCs ago, but for a position as critical as QB I want somebody the staff generally had their eye on for a while. Maybe Dungey and Womack end up being diamonds in the rough, but the truth is, Long was a desired peice of the program for a long time, and while he didn't play well last season, he should have been redshirting and learning instead of being thrown in to the fire behind a slap dash line. I can only be encouraged that he did anything positive in that situation.

People are talking here like Dungey and Womack are the answer, and they're the ones that have proven nothing and are guys we barely know anything about. Long at least made some plays. Wilson at least saw the field.

AJ Long for starting QB, student body Predisent, and athletic director.

Hell, give him 44.

I love AJ but it is hard to find too many QBs of his size that have succeeded. Whomever gets the nod in 2016, just hope it's because he is the best we have, not the least worst

I'd say I'm not particularly bothered by AJ's size, but if you're a smaller QB you need to make up for it in some other facet (exceptional accuracy, great runner). That's AJ's problem: he's not a standout in those areas. He's a decent but not great runner, and his arm is pretty weak and he's really not particularly accurate. Combined with being small, that's a bad combination.

I hope like hell he proves me completely wrong, both for the sake of the program and because I know there are few, if any, kids in the program who work harder. I think he'll be a team captain by the time he's a junior, but I see it more as a Keith Downing situation where our captain is on the sidelines as a senior.
