Class of 2019 RB Jawhar Jordan Jr. (AZ) SIGNED NLI TO SYRACUSE 12/19/18

And l'ville would lose the scholly, correct?

Under the new rules, you can't sign an NLI unless you're qualified.

If a recruit doesn't qualify, you lose the scholarship for the year. And since you can't backdate recruits anymore, you can't even bring in 26 kids the following year to make up for it.

Yes that seems to be what the new rule is. If they sign early and then don't qualify the school doesn't get the scholarship back.

Interesting missed that part of the new rules, thank you.

That being said no school is going to let a kid sign if he isn't qualified.

Don't think Sampson will end up at a P5, personally.
I initially thought that, too, but has ole Miss, Nebraska visits. I think Jordan may be the only one. I'm going to pretend he'll be eligible, til the bitter end.

Has anything been written about Jordan’s academic situation? Not sure why this is such a mystery. Call his coach. Is he qualified? Is he close? Stating he’s committed without proof that he’s coming is lazy.

I haven't seen anything. I don't doubt that some of the info on here about his situation is incorrect. Just hoping he can change it. If he truly received a Texas offer(as reported), they would have had access to his academic situation.

3rd stage of grief- bargaining? Maybe

I thought Texas was just inquiring. I haven't seen a solid offer from them, but really the only thing to watch imo; does he take any official visits. So far the answer is no.

Wait if the kid can't sign an NLI if he's not qualified, then how does the school lose a scholarship?

I'd be surprised if more than one of the 3 you listed ends up at a P5 school.

Wasn’t my point. Wherever they end up they were still P5 talent.

According to the new rule, if a school accepts an NLI from a student that then doesn't qualify, then they still count against the school totals of 25 recruits for the year (and maybe 85 total?). So a school looking to sign a bigger class is unlikely to accept a NLI from a recruit that hasn't qualified. Once they qualify there will be a rush to sign them up. It will be interesting to see how crazy it gets with late recruiting in the summer.

If one could makeup classes in the summer... Could they then be eligible? Or is PG year required?

Ok I took it too literally, I thought he meant they can't actually sign if they aren't qualified yet

Yes. It's my understanding that they can check the academic record in the recruits Sr. Year.

Could be a bogus "offer". It's also my understanding that the announcement of the offer has to come from the kid.(Twitter, etc.) Could be wrong on both counts. My thought was that he didn't publicly post the Texas "offer", as he was 1000% committed to Cuse. (Some commits have lost offers for visiting, etc..)

Saying he's not qualified isn't denial. Citing an article from a month ago (before his qualifying status was known) doesn't change anything.
That's a reference to my denial. ;-)

If a Sr. Year offer, you'd think they'd check on his academics first, as he'd have to be registered with the NCAA clearing house.
