Class of 2018 SG Eric Ayala (DE/IMG) to Maryland

IF all this Ayala chatter is true, that's he's announcing soon and people think it's SU, because of the timing I wonder if it has anything to do with not getting Tucker?

While they aren't the same type player, they are both non-inside players and tucker could play some 2.

They may be linked based on numbers too. We have 2 left this year. With Tucker we would have been left with 1 and maybe there is someone else we want to bring in more than Ayala or maybe even save that 1 for 2018. But now with 2 still we will take Ayala.

If it happens, the timing is just a bit curious after it seemed like Ayala was in no hurray and was likely to stay in 2018.

There is a lot to wonder about. Obviously there are tons of moving parts that we aren't privy to behind the scenes this cycle. It seemed to me that we were trying to close out the class with Ayala and Tucker but Ayala sort of stalled out on pulling the trigger for 2017. We did have Dolezaj in since the start of AAU whom the staff really liked. Perhaps they liked him enough to prioritize him over Ayala if we landed Tucker (who as you mention could have played the 2 if needed). Now Tucker is out so we have room for one more and if the staff is counting on getting Solezaj then a guard makes the most sense.

Ayala's AAU shooting stats leave a lot to be desired. 52% from the line and 5-15 from 3.

Not confident we will be getting Ayala

I get the impression we are up against a lot of negative recruiting lately and that an energized JB out on the road could get things going in the right direction for the 2018 class.

Wishful thinking but I can see where you're coming from and wont disagree.

Don't think Ayala commits to us and don't think their recruitments are related in any way, shape or form.

Ayala & Tucker was the staff's Plan A for 2017, in my opinion. They swung and missed on 1/2 - due to bad luck, or call it whatever you want. About to swing and miss on the other 1/2.

Which is why many fans are curious what the heck is going on. Our roster isn't set yet and I'm not saying the sky is falling, but there should be questions in any fan's mind that is looking from the outside in without Orange-colored glasses.

Ayala is like Green IMO just move on or just don't put all your eggs in his basket in 2018. How many times he need to visit? How many times does he need to talk to the coaches? If he wanted to be here he would be here. This is where the staff IMO needs to do a better job of ready the tea leaves and moving on from recruits. Spend too much more time with Ayala and then we will loose out on other quality guards.

You next @EA_Glo

nothing that wasn't posted two pages ago.

Some guy: "Erica Ayala, you're next"
Ayala: "Coming soon."

So basically it's anyone's guess :noidea:

Who or what is a Dirty Delaware?

If Ayala is reclassifying, I don't think he'll announce until after he's done with AAU. Initially, we thought it was just one tournament, but perhaps he meant the whole season. Jontay Porter is expected to reclassify, but he's not saying anything until after the Peach Jam in July.

If we are I am not concerned there. Buddy, Carey and Cormac Ryan are all producing much more than him in EYBL play.

And it didn't seem like Carmody was all that interested even when Hop was here, so... next!

Plan A was Green at guard and Randolph on the wing. Ayala and Tucker were both fall back options after we lost out on those primary targets-- admittedly, good fall back options, but they were the Plan B's.

We might be on to Plan C at this point at both positions -- with Dolezaj and Thorpe. That's not a knock on either player -- they are pretty good / much better than we should be able to hope for from third options. Dolezaj in particular looks like he might have NBA potential.

You're correct. The ship sailed on Green and Randolph so long ago, I had forgotten.

Which proves my point even further.
