Siena Basketball: GMAC / Blackwell / AO

Nice win for Siena this afternoon 85-77 at home vs. Fairfield. Gavin Doty had 24 points on 9 for 9 from the field, a new Siena record (best two prior 8 for 8 games in years past). Interesting Siena is 8-0 in day games but only 5-7 in night games. Siena played great for the first 30 minutes building a 17 point lead. But too many mistakes in the last 10 minutes and in the post-game TV interview, unlike certain other head coaches, GMac didn't make any bones about his unhappiness with those mistakes and that he'd let the team hear about it in the locker room.

Gerry has the team playing well for the last two games. I guess he wants them being successful just in case he gets a phone call after the season to move 2 hours west. [I kid. I kid]
I know the've struggled with injuries, did they get anyone back or is the depth starting to develop?

I don't think they got anyone back yet. 2 things though -- Siena shot very well. 75% in the first half. 64.7% for the game. And he played Mulvey and Folifac out there at the same time. 2 big men. especially in the first half.

No one back yet. If you look at the box score, Gerry only played seven. Fortunately, Riley Mulvey has started making an impact at back up center and Gerry had rewarded him the last couple games with more playing time.

Siena was over 70% shooting for a big part of the game until Fairfield tightened up a bit, but they still finished over 67% including 50% from three. Fairfield wasn't the greatest defensive team today, but Siena still worked hard for their shots and played a lot smarter today. Even though Shoats still had six turnovers, this was probably his best game of the year.

Yes, having Folefac out there has helped out Mulvey. But, if you look at the +/-, it hasn't moved the needle for either one. Nothing particular has stood out while they are both in there. I think Gerry still has to figure that out.

And it's a strange box score, especially if you try to correlate minutes played and the +/-. Siena won by eight, and only one guy had a better +/-, Shotes, who played the most minutes, and one guy right at +8, Coyle, who played the 2nd most minutes.

Usually it's some super sub with a great+/-, not the guy with the most minutes.

Nice win for Siena. Beat Marist at home 69-50. Outscored Marist 17-4 down the stretch. Marist was scoreless for about the last 6 minutes.

Gavin Doty 21 points.

GMac lit into the team at halftime for not finishing the first half well down 36-30. The team responded. Only 2 turnovers in the 2nd half; 8 for the game.

Siena now 14-7 and 13-1 when they hold their opponent under 70. Siena struggled to end the first half but outscored Marist 39-14 in the 2nd half after Gerry lit them up at halftime.

Real good win for Siena. I'm sure Gerry wishes he could replay a few that they lost.
