Siena Basketball: GMAC / Blackwell / AO

Nice win for Siena. Beat Marist at home 69-50. Outscored Marist 17-4 down the stretch. Marist was scoreless for about the last 6 minutes.

Gavin Doty 21 points.
Siena now 14-7 and 13-1 when they hold their opponent under 70. Siena struggled to end the first half but outscored Marist 39-14 in the 2nd half after Gerry lit them up at halftime.

Real good win for Siena. I'm sure Gerry wishes he could replay a few that they lost.

As a sidenote, sacred heart has now run off 3 conference victories in a row starting with the Siena win.
Maybe they aren’t quite as bad as people thought.

Apologies to Gerry but Doty might make a nice addition from the portal for whoever our new coach is next year.
Doty absolutely adores Gerry. I would be stunned if he left.
He has acknowledged no one in Division 1 wanted the kid from Fulton but Gerry.
Besides, Adam Weitsman is paying his NIL.
He would no doubt up it to help keep him

I like Doty a lot but he would be playing a much different role here. May not want that.

Siena looking good.

4 wins 2 years ago, 14 wins last year and now 14 wins as of 1/29/26.
It is so impressive how he has had them on an upward trajectory.

Sitting at 3rd in the conference.
Those are two big games in WNY for Siena this weekend. They should be favored in both, but it's not easy to sweep out there.

The Saints held on for a 82-79 win over Greg Paulus' Niagara Purple Eagles. Siena had a 14 point lead with 6:05 left and Niagara made a furious attempt to come back at the end. Gavin Doty hit an important 3 and some timely free throw shooting kept Siena up. A late 3 by Niagara in the last few seconds made it a 3 point final score. Shoats and Doty led the way for Siena.

Not sure if you saw Gerry's post-game TV interview. He was not happy at all giving up 40 points in the 1st half and not happy about letting Niagara back in the game after a big lead.

He didn't say it, but giving up 79 points to Niagara after holding them to 54 the first time they played this year is a big difference.

Yes I did. He does not hold back his thoughts at all. I thought he was harder on his team for their play in the first half, although they had a 2 point halftime lead, than he was about letting them back in it at he end. If I recall correctly, without Niagara's last second 3 it was a 6 point game. I thought Niagara stayed in it by their 3 point shooting.

Edit: I went back and looked at the end of the game. Niagara's last 3 pt basket was with just .3 of a second left.
