Smoke or BS in CT (B1G)?

Looked at the boneyard quickly to see their thoughts, and while there is a thread on it, the conversation over there is dominated by a twice as long thread about how they will sue the P5 if they get left out. Lol. How'd that work out last time.

75% of the schools who filed the lawsuit ended up in a P5 conference.

UConn will likely get added to the ACC whenever the conference gets a commitment from Notre Dame to join all-sports and that won't be for another decade.

The B1G isn't going to add UConn they got their money from NYC cable companies now they will wait out two of Kansas/Texas/Oklahoma.

The Big XII is so obviously the weakest of the P5 conferences and when their GOR expires I would expect Delany/B1G to go after Texas/Oklahoma to strengthen their Western division in Football. I am sure Oklahoma is interested, but I doubt Texas will be interested, and then I bet the B1G turns to Kansas, and goes for Oklahoma/Kansas combo. Texas could easily go to the ACC and get 5 annual opponents deal from that conference, play Rice/Houston/Texas Tech/TCU for its TX games, continue playing Oklahoma in Dallas and become an independent a la Notre Dame and rake a lot of money.

UConn needs to be patient and hope their football improves. Their hoops will survive, but their football is on life support.

UConn makes no sense from an academic perspective, and don't forget the CIC is a huge damn deal in the B1G. Kansas and Kansas State have way strong graduate programs in areas that could use CIC funding than UConn.

Pretty sure K-State has a Top 5 Ag or Aero school or something like that in the country. They already get a ton of research money as is.

Exactly.

If CT had more TV sets than NJ, UCONN would be in the B1G.

The lawsuit had nothing to do with it.

As a CT resident, I'd also like it if we didn't have crippling taxes with zero job and population growth as well.

;)

So they would make an exception to that AAU and contiguous state thingie cuz UConn is UConn?

Well it did with the ACC as did Calhoun. But none of that has anything to do with your 100+ post thread talking lawsuit already.

In all honesty, I think they'd dump that contiguous state thing in a heartbeat for the right addition. I mean, they've completely diluted their proud football product for the sake of TVs and $. The fact that the schools are in connected states is probably dumb luck. I can't imagine they were even thinking about it, but someone probably pointed it out afterwords, and they said 'oh, lucky us for tradition's sake, so keep that in the press notes in case we need it'.

Wouldn't be UConn though as the right addition because it provides them nothing. If, say, someone in Texas wanted to join, I think they could formally adjust the bylaw.

Chip--agreed...and they would look the other way with Notre Dame and the AAU...however, our Husky fans think they are Texas and Notre Dame.

If UConn goes to the B1G...the ACC will counter with Cincy I assume. I can't see Miami/FSU wanting UCF or USF.
Why does the ACC need to counter with a move? Doesn't make sense

Well, if true, that didn't take long.

Not surprised, really.

The B1G has been beating the ACC to the punch every chance it gets.

This would lock up the NY market for the B1G.
ND owns the NYC market lets not fool ourselves.

Well, Delaney is on record saying the contiguous thingie doesn't exist.

And it UCONN had more TV's, I think the B1G would have been very pleased with our progress towards AAU status.

How much did the ACC care about the fact that UofL is basically a community college with a strong football/BB program?

Nobody "owns" the NYC college market.

A winning (meaning annual NC contender) Rutgers would have the best chance to own it. But that ain't gonna happen.

That community college has a world class Medical School.

The Big 10 will own the NYC market if this goes down IMO. People don't realize that there are a ton of Michigan and Penn State Alum in NYC. Throw in UConn and Rutgers and it's over.

Its a bigger outlier in the ACC than UCONN would be in the B1G.

Not even close.

UCONN is the #19 public university in the united states by us news and would be right in the middle in the B1g.

Isn't UofL the worst school in the ACC by a decent amount?

Mark,

The Contiguous State rule was made up and has not been a B1G guideline. Recall that they did attempt to lure Texas into the fold and they also tried to make a play for UNC and UVA.

Also, the AAU requirement went out the door with UNL accepting the B1G invite. Most B1G schools voted to drop UNL from AAU, which happened, knowing UNL was coming to the B1G/CIC. Had the B1G schools decided to protect UNL, they had the votes in the AAU to do so.

The AAU decided to focus more on medical research. UNL and Syracuse lack Medical schools (the State of Nebraska has theirs' set up as a different school/locale). This is ironic as Syracuse was invited to the AAU in the 1960's (?) when it was just about research, Syracuse had already sold their medical school to NY State. Being in the AAU is less about overall prestige as it is now about Medical prestige.

There are a lot of ACC alumni and several school heavily recruit NYC, LI and northern Jersey. Add in the ND T-Shirt fans and the B1G can claim whatever they want, but they would still be #2 at best. A winning SEC team will have more draw in NYC than a 10-2 Michigan or Ohio State.

Regardless of where Louisville is ranked, it is where they are going. ND fought to get Louisville in and ND does not want to be associated with academic skunks. Louisville is spending money on academics to improve their perception and quality. Also, the Carolina schools and VA had no issue with Louisville's academics (Nor did Syracuse, Pitt, FSU and Clemson), all while knowing UCOnn's status as well.

Sure it is...but the ACC was in a bind. Louisville has some strengths...though. My understanding is the ACC will be the catalyst to transform the school to something closer to FSU/NC St in the next 5-10 years. We'll see.

Michigan and PSU are already established members of the B1G. It's not like they will suddenly own the market with Rutgers and UConn joining.
