So Babers is sold on Shrader?

Never say never. Unless you perfer having no real chance to get quick scores when down

Do you think Tommy could accept the "relief pitcher" role?
If he could allow himself to do that, the two of them might co-exist, and we would be better as a team for it.

But Shrader is better in the pocket by a mile, and is a tough runner.
Why in the world don't we have the ability to put the QB under center on 3rd and inches??

Obviously I have no inside info but I feel he would for this year alone and then use his last year to go to G5 ala chase Brice and use it to light it up as much as he can and maybe get draft attention

Devito is probably a great kid but this team doesn't seem to respond to him at QB. Shrader has a toughness about him that l like... next we need to find someone to ease Tuckers workload before we kill him...my vote goes to Howard.

Meh

He’s like #4 or 5 in line to get a game ball. Didn’t lose it and maybe that’s what we need from the position

It’s so funny how much you hate that SU won without TD as the QB. I take back calling you RutgersAl of our board. RutgersAl would have been calling GS a heisman hopeful with multiple scouts watching him at the game.

where has he ever shown to be a leader? Do leaders steal Touchdowns from the running back that got them into position in a blow out? That ball should have gone to Howard last game and everyone on the planet knows it. Just a completely selfish play by Shrader.
He doesnt make good reads in the RPO, but TD has all year.

Devito has two win. Would have 3 if not for dumb play calling and biased refs.

Ill give you the bad snaps. A few of those probably make it over TD's head.

At this point people are blaming TD for bad play calling, stupid penalties, and zero offensive line play and advocating for a selfish indusial that cant throw the ball past the line of scrimmage. If that's what people want put Abdul Adams as the QB and have to upper level running backs on the field.

Lol. About all I can say. The hate for SU and a winning QB after going through last years season is priceless.

Let’s not act like you weren’t complaining about the offense when it looked like we were about to lose. Make sure to protect your neck from whiplash

I was lol. The offense runs from the offensive coordinator. I’m struggling to connect my comment you replied to, to your comment. What does my comment have to do with you calling me out because the play calling sucked. It did suck. What’s that have to do with me supporting GS. So confused.

I mean, almost a blind person can tell you how awful the offensive play calling was in the 2nd half.

But that’s on Gilbert and not GS.

GS STILL found a way to win that game despite the awful play calling…..and by GS I mean the defense

Oh and for full clarification since your comment still makes no sense. I NEVER called out GS in the game thread. Never even a comment that came close to it. So nice job trying to throw me under the bus. Maybe you had the whiplash?

Who has hate for SU? You been on FB or something? The discussion is about who provides SU a better chance to win. Feel free to argue that and the misplaced hate for Devito.

He hit a receiver on an out route in the Albany game that was an NFL caliber throw.

His issue is consistency right now, not capability.
Yep after going through his progressions from right to left scanning the WHOLE field to his third read and option, then delivered a dart. Ability is there, that doesn’t happen option B, formally known as option A

Aww, you got triggered by that. I’m sorry.

Late to the thread - Schrader can absolutely throw the ball and has plus arm strength, however…

However, his mechanics during games are a C-/D+ at best. He actually reminds me a lot of Dungey throwing wise early in Dungey’s career.

He doesn’t set his feet very well in the pocket, and tends to throw off his back foot too often, or even flat footed. That being said, he made an NFL throw last week with an absolute bullet on a comeback route from the other hash.

There is definitely talent there, and I can see why he was heavily recruited. Schrader is anything from a finished product. Developmentally, he is really a redshirt freshman. I think this board forgets that at times. He played one year at Miss St, then was switched to WR under Mr Concussion Protocol.

I am looking for improvement out of Garrett throughout the course of the year. Improvement isn’t linear, and there will definitely be some bumps along the way.

I believe he gives us our best chance to win and obviously the staff does as well. He allows this offense to attack the defense is more ways than Tommy. The beard brings the ability for more read option concepts, horizontal RPO game, and you have to account for him running in the passing game (remember all those Dungey designed QB draws that went for 5-6 yards on 3rd downs)?

I expect the vertical passing game to develop more over the course of the season. We do have some issues with both QB play and WR play too. I am not a fan of excessive option routes at this level, and for some reason we run them all the time.

You see the pains with a new QB and young receivers not named Taj Harris out there - guys end up in the wrong spots all the time. That’s one reason why Sharrod Johnson plays more than he should - he knows where to go despite being our least talented receiver.

Great post.

Touchdown Tommy got 3 starts, 2 against non P5 schools, 75%+ of the snaps and had 1 TD pass. In 3 games. Its time for a QB that can do other things besides pass.
You act.as.if.TD has thrown for 3 TD per game. If he had we would not even be talking about GS.

Preach. ^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^

Wrote this in the game thread, but GS is like half Shawn Michaels, half Hacksaw Jim Duggan. It will be bumpy, but it's going to be entertaining as all get out and there will be some awesome moments.

Bingo. A+++

there were also a number of plays where the defense could have come straight at him but he froze them - they respect his running ability more. In those situations Tommy panics. runs backwards.

We know what Tommy is. Wish he could elevate on the on field piece but it is what it is. we have a good enough defense where we need to extend drives and not go three and out with negative plays.

Shrader was hitting some perfect 10-20 yard passes to Gadsden and Cooper (maybe others?) in the Albany game. He can hit those passes.
Longer than that seems to be a crapshoot.
