Since it is national signing day, I figure recruiting can be main board material for a little while...

I am a lousy football fan compared to basketball. I really have no idea if the recruits are good or not. With a baby, a toddler and a job, I have no chance of reading 20 plus recruits threads.

How did we do?

We secured people early under insane conditions, so thinking is we may have a steal of a class we would not have gotten under normal circumstances.

I certainly like this class but I just don’t get why people expect better recruits. I truly don’t get it. This is going to be an unpopular take but it’s reality- if you’re A “solid high 3 star or borderline 4 star” chances are you have offers from a Louisville, Miami, Maryland, North Carolina, etc... So why on earth given the state of this program the last 20 years are there any expectations that recruiting should improve?? Someone said earlier “we are who we are” and honestly that’s the reality. I actually am shocked they were able to get Chestnut and Cruz. This is not a blast on SU or Syracuse or anything. Grew up there my entire life and spent time in other places, been to a lot of campuses and I just can’t get why people expect more. Don’t tell me history either. Kids do not care what happened 2 years ago let alone 50. I think if we were all managing our expectations and realize how the deck is so stacked against the team we love, it would allow us to be a little bit more reasonable. I love this team, love syracuse and haven’t missed a game in 30 years but I’ve faced reality with some things that I just don’t ever expect to change

10000% agree. It really makes me appreciate 2018. It’s hard to catch lightning in a bottle

I was just looking at the ACC recruiting rankings for this year and was astonished to see that Pitt is ranked #4 (per 247sports). No reason why we can’t recruit at that level. There’s no way their facilities are any better than ours...they don’t even have their own stadium.
Pitt sharing facilities with the NFL is a big tie into their recruiting. That and the fact that we've only had 4 winning seasons in 15 years. While they have had 9. Cities like Philly and Pittsburgh produce triple amount more D1 prospects than cities like Syracuse, Rochester and Buffalo. The few high ends prospects NYS produce nornally leave the state because we dont give them a reason to stay. Telling kids McNabb played here and we won consistently in the 90's is a hard sell. These kids are about recent success. They want instant gratification.

It's a glass half full/half empty situation. Most will see what they want to see in this recruiting class and you'll see that in replies. Many don't go beyond recruiting site ratings, some dig a bit deeper and check other reported offers, and fewer still watch highlight films and follow high school football to some degree.

IMHO this is the best recruiting class we've had in quite sometime. Some top drawer talents, addressed needs, and no obvious reaches.
Bonus with this staff is kids all seem to make it to campus. Prior regimes usually had a few guys per class that were borderline academically some of which never made campus or quickly were dismissed but inflated class ratings.

Pitt has Eastern Ohio to recruit as well. Thankfully we've started pulling solid players from Canada because NY doesn't have enough P5 players a year to fill half a recruiting class, much less the local talent surrounding Pittsburgh. Comparing recruiting with Pitt is mustard to oranges.

The issue for me is that some variation of this statement has been made every year since 2013.

It’s the same class on paper as we get every year. At this point I need to see it on the field.

If you go back through those classes I'm sure you can find the reaches.

I know what you're saying but the amount of last year's class that played and played well coupled with the amount of offers players get right after Dino and Co offer lends credence to this staff identifying talent.

Well hopefully I’m looking back and laughing at myself in a couple years. Not saying you’re wrong I just want to see it.

please compare measurables between the classes. we have receivers/TE's all over 6 feet, linemen with good frames, athletic LBs, and no tiny DBs.

These classes are good enough for 6 wins in a normal year. We’ve started to schedule like Duke, BC, Wake - this year that got blowed up by the pandemic.

Those who are saying the recruiting needs to be better (of course!) but who don’t outline how that happens are delusional. It’s schedule yourself to bowls, get wins, continue to address deficiencies, make successive good hires everywhere.

But he’s had 5 years! How many of those had peer level schedules? An uninjuried starting QB? 1. He went 10-3.

It’s not a quick fix. It’s a process. And progress has been made that will help the football program into the future, whether Dino reaps the rewards or not is an open question

^ This. My assessment exactly.

Best part is we've still got 5 spots to fill if we so choose. Curious if the doom and gloomers would change their tune if the class ends up 10-15 spots higher?

Shame we don't have big enough footprint for recruiting sites to reevaluate rankings of our players as well, we've got some criminally under rated recruits this class. Hough and Morris jump off the page and even our top 3 rated in Chestnut, Cruz, and Hatcher are all a star too low.
