So we're playing Baylor...

I remember a team went zone against us earlier this year and Buddy flat out busted it. As soon as they went zone his eyes lit up. I mean he has been playing against the best zone in college basketball since he's could touch a basketball.
whats Jimmy doing? Hell, bring him along too. Roster him like it’s travel/summer baseball and he’s always available as a fill in. Won’t cost the U a dime.

I thought I heard about that rebounding thing right. now how do they do it because it's always said that because we play a Zone that is the reason why we can't get offensive rebounds and/or rebound well at all so okay what are they doing that causes them to be a good offensive and defensive rebounding team. Interesting

Syracuse has a history of being one of the best offensive rebounding teams in the country. What D you play has nothing to do with offensive boards.

Baylor’s defensive stats including 3pt% defense aren’t close.
It’s their offensive rebounding that concerns me more actually. People keep saying how they’re shorter, but since when has height really mattered since we don’t block out? Height helps contest the initial shot, though. And it would be nice if we had a threat of a fast break to make them pay for cheating on the boards but alas it’s 2019 not 2010.

And Marek. His game is so much better vs a zone. He will slashing and dashing and weaving and achieving.

This isn't going to be like you are expecting. Marek plays well in the middle of a 2-3 zone (where most struggle). But Baylor plays a 1-3-1. There is no middle to attack. It's most vulnerable from the sides. I think O'Shae will be huge against them, as will Buddy, Elijah, and Frank hitting deep 3s (they will probably need to be deep).

Wrong. They shoot the three well.
Uh Oh!! So they do play zone so our advantage of the opposing team not being familiar with it is out the window.
They can shoot the 3 which can be a zone buster.
Also the fact that they are at the top of the big 12 i heard in rebounding wonders why we can never have a good rebounding team. I was always willing to accept that but don't want too anymore ;)
I'm a lil nervous about this game now but we'll see. We have been playing better these last couple games.

Baylor could be a true toss-up. Let’s not assume Battle will be healthy.

As for Gonzaga, I think they’re getting a bit of an assist here in terms of preparing for the Round of 32. The zones aren’t identical, but at the very least they’ll be able to spend the next few days working on fundamentals, where to attack, etc.
Battle himself literally said he was healthy

Yea was a lil brain fart on that one but I did hear that were tops defensive rebounding team out of a zone is what I meant

They play a different zone than we do. There won't be any familiarity. The 1-3-1 is just as different from 2-3 as man D is.

We used to rip up West Virginia’s 1-3-1 zone when Beilein was there. Hope we can handle this one.

Warrick tore them apart catching lobs all day. Brissett will have that same space to work in. He wont be as good as Warrick (not many are) but hopefully he can be good enough to make them think twice about extending out on our shooters.

Utah Jazz GM Dennis Lindsey has a son on Baylor. Unfortunately the son retired after just two seasons due to injuries and medical issues.

Nope. We beat Vermont and Gonzaga in Buffalo.

Butler was the next round.

Was thinking of the year Arinze was injured and we lost a second round in Buffalo. I thought it was to Butler or another team from that same conference...I have vivid memories of the game because I attended with one of my sons...

I believe you’re mixing that up with Dayton? We lost to Dayton in Buffalo in 2014.

I was at the Buffalo games in 2010, we won both of those.

What do we know about them besides they also play zone?

Good matchup? Bad?

They don't have a lot of size. Their best player (leading rebounder, leading scorer, 6-8 240 ) blew out his knee in January and is gone. Two or three other guys have been hurt, including a toe on their second leading scorer, and they dropped their last 4 games. We have better size at guard. None of their guards are dead-eye shooters, but they have 3 or 4 who are pretty decent (35% or so). They go after the offensive glass, but they play a lot of mid-sized swingmen G/ types. Our height in the zone and the passing lanes should bother them.

Sounds like we need to overload the wings.
