Sorry smokers

i wonder what number of people really have an issue with not being able to leave and come back in? its got to be less than 10% , many campuses have the same policy for smoking around buildings and most high schools are smoke free too so its not that unusual for many people to deal with

It's not about living longer. It's about living better in your 60s, 70s and 80s.
That is your choice and I fully support you in making it as an adult person with free will.

You never been out west then? Everyone lights up.
Lived in Seattle area 7 1/2 years... hardly ever saw smokers; moved to Cleveland... was shocked how many people smoked... definitely not an "out west thing"

That's true. Noticed this too.

Ok. South West. Better?!

Just a dumb rule that will be hard to enforce in many campus areas. I'm not a smoker but like to have a cigar now and then while tailgating. I imagine they will lose a few fans with this -- probably several hundred each game -- but it won't stop me from having an occasional cigar.

As an ex smoker who never left during a game to smoke (I smoked a pack and a half a day, but I had my priorities straight lol), this wouldn't bother me.

But seriously guys, lighten up on the university. It's not like this kind of thing isn't commonplace this day in age. You're acting like SU is the one place on earth that is enforcing this kind of thing.

You know the smoking rule sucks...but SU you will lose me forever if you take away our right to strip down to our bra and panties

There simply aren't as many smokers. It's being slowly phased out of our society as a result of education and laws prohibiting it in public. This graph is a thing of beauty.

Would not believe this if you saw the number of butts I have to clean up off my lawn near the road!

former smoker as well . i have no objections to the ban on smoking on private property. i also so have no objections to banning alcohol in the dome and other public places. i do believe that smokers have the right to smoke in designated places on public property. smokers pay taxes as well.
drunk drivers kill people, but we don't take the same precautions in preventing that by banning alcohol. that was already tried during prohibition, and that did not turn out so well.
many private businesses such as grocery stores, pharmacies etc no longer sell cigarettes. good for them. that is there choice .
when taxpayer money is used for a function, smokers have rights too. as the graph shows, smoking has dropped considerably and i believe it will continue that trend.
completely drunk, rude, obnoxious people are far more objectionable and dangerous to me than someone lighting up in a designated area, that i can avoid.

The dome is a private place that the public is allowed access to. The street is a public place.

Just don't take away the beer, and we'll all be ok...

Dear Season Ticket Holder:

In July 2015, Syracuse University enacted a tobacco-free campus policy covering all property owned, leased, or managed by the University. The policy was deferred for two years for the Carrier Dome, Drumlins, the Sheraton Syracuse University Hotel & Conference Center, and the Syracuse Stage/Drama Theater Complex. While these facilities have remained smoke-free inside, the use of tobacco products outside the spaces has been allowed.

Effective July 1, 2017, these facilities now follow the rest of the Syracuse University campus in becoming completely smoke- and tobacco-free venues. This is a move that ensures the Carrier Dome and other facilities offer a safe, healthy, and respectful environment for all our guests and staff.

The new policy is applicable to both inside and outside the Carrier Dome, as well as in all on-campus parking areas. The policy covers all tobacco products, including cigarettes, cigars, snuff, pipes, chewing tobacco, and products that imitate the act of smoking, such as vapor cigarettes.

Also, in association with the new policy, the Carrier Dome will discontinue the practice by which a guest could have their ticket scanned “out” by a ticket taker in order to exit the Carrier Dome and then scanned back “in” for re-entry.

Consistent with the Atlantic Coast Conference and other sport venues, Carrier Dome patrons (both smokers and non-smokers) will no longer be allowed to leave and re-enter the facility during an event.

The University is providing this information now to make sure you and others who enjoy attending Carrier Dome events have ample notice about these forthcoming changes.

For more information on Syracuse University’s tobacco-free campus initiative, visit wellness.syr.edu/tobacco-free.

Thank you for your continued patronage. As always, if you have any questions about this policy or other matters involving the Carrier Dome, please contact the Carrier Dome Box Office at 1-888-DOME-TIX.

Sincerely,

I'm taking my chances with skoal

Every Syracuse game you see the old cny guys with the jeans and the white new balance sneakers ripping heaters right outside the dome. Complaining about the play calling and may or may not have a mustache. My friend and I often laugh at the trail of bad decisions on the way into the basement entry near the quad. The cans of Blue Light on the steps and the smell of burning cigs. Sad to see it go. Definitely will be tough during those night games in August my god was it hot and you needed a break
all those old cny guys in their jeans

i'll make sure to wear nice slacks for you this year

Wait, so I can't even walk out at halftime to get some fresh air now? It gets hot as hell in there, and some cold nights it feels pretty good to cool down. I smoke probably 10 cigarettes a week, so I'll live, but this is idiotic. The Dome is a damn oven that I'm stuck in all game now. Nice. That will make some game decisions a lot easier.
But Pete Sala said we'd have air conditioning!

The dome has been tobacco free for quite a while now - luckily I've never been harassed by anyone yet with my pinch of Skoal in either at a basketball or football game. It's gotta be real difficult to police - who's to say I don't just have a big piece of gum I pushed down in my lip? Or some of that beef jerky snuff?

CuseTroop - you just need to pick up another bad habit. Even you have room for more of them. Join the dippers.

I used to be all sneaky and smuggle in a few pouches in a Ziploc bag since I was worried about my tin setting off the metal detector and having them take it from me. Pouches just don't do it though.

I couldn't bring in my water that I bought at Varsity pizza! I'm outraged. They need to treat us water drinkers better.

Clearly SU hates people who like to stay hydrated. Discrimination! They won't be satisfied until we're all parched!
